Homeward Pet's mission is to transform the lives of cats and dogs in need through compassionate medical care, positive behavior training, and successful adoption while building a more humane community. We started with simple goals: save and re-home cats and dogs and educate the public about spaying and neutering their pets. In 2002 Hooterville became Homeward Pet Adoption Center. Each year Homewar

d helps over 1,800 cats and dogs find their forever home. Where do these animals come from? 20% are owner surrenders and the other 80% are animals we rescue from shelters that euthanize. We remain small with a staff of 25 (half are part time). And our 400+ volunteers are our backbone (thank you volunteers and donors!). Many of the rescued animals who come to Homeward get more love and attention in our shelter than they have ever known. Our shelter continues to grow and improve.

Even with being closed for adoptions over the weekend (due to low staffing), we still sent 17 pets home with their new families last week! Including 1 kitten, 13 cats, and 3 dogs.

Honey thinks she lives at Homeward Pet.

This two year old lab/pit mix has been with us almost a year - that's almost half her life! She has four kennels all to herself. She has a small crew of folks who she loves and trusts, who take her on field trips, play fun games with her, give her all her favorite things, watch out for her health and happiness. She has a couple of beds so she can choose where to hang out. She gets a balanced diet and regular veterinary care. She's super smart and has received regular training. She gets 2 -4 walks a day. She participates in daily enrichment activities to keep her from getting bored. She is told every day how loved and welcome she is.

What she doesn't have is a home. And while she doesn't know it, we want that for her.

Our sweet sweet Bobby is in urgent need of a foster for upcoming weeks.

He will be coming back to the shelter next week and is so very terrified when he is here in a kennel. We're hoping that we can minimize or eliminate the time he has to spend in shelter.

Friday the 13th seems a good day to debut our sweet little vampire, Nosferatu.

This handsome fluffball's fangs are constantly outside his mouth, and that's all sorts of fabulous. Nosferatu has quickly become a staff favorite with his quirky looks and quirky personality. He enjoys being around people and can be quite the chatterbox. And he loves to play!

Happy Tail Ahead: Frog (now Henry)

"Henry is slowly acclimating, but making progress every day! He loves playing interactively with his fleece snake, bird and ball toys that are strung to a stick. He acts totally at ease when playing!

He is wary of us walking toward him and/or reaching out to pat or pet him, though. He WILL eventually let the daughter pet him and he seems to totally enjoy it - me, not so much!

He also totally adores sitting on windowsills and surveying our surroundings. My great hope is that someday he’ll seek out some cuddle time. He’s such a handsome and sweet boy!"
