Everyone meet Percy. This young man was brought in by a good samaritan that found a bag floating down the river with a litter of puppies inside. Unfortunately Percy was the only survivor. He is being raised by our veterinarian as he is only a few days old. What happened to him and his siblings is heart wrenching and absolutely unacceptable. If you have an animal that you do not want PLEASE reach out to our local animal shelter, rescue organizations, or humane societies.

Some of you may have come to know one of our interns, Maddie. Maddie has been working with us for the past year gaining knowledge of working in a clinical setting. Maddie is headed to University of Georgia to become a licensed Veterinarian. We wish her the best of luck and we will miss you!

Due to the recent social media events, we’ve been receiving a lot of questions and concerns regarding flea/tick prevention products. I would like to address some of these concerns and hopefully put some of our pet owners’ minds at ease. Many flea/tick preventatives such as Bravecto, Nexgard, and Simparica Trio are part of the Isoxazoline drug class. These drug variations have been on the market for many years and have all been approved as safe for use by the FDA. As with any drug, there can be side effects. These preventatives in the Isoxazoline drug class can lower the seizure threshold and can rarely exacerbate neurologic symptoms in dogs with previously diagnosed neurologic conditions. I highly encourage pet owners to have a thoughtful discussion with their veterinarian, as they should prior to starting any medications, before use. Our clinic has been using products from the Isoxazoline drug class for many years and has not encountered any of these major, neurologic, side effects. We have, unfortunately, seen many pets die from flea and tick infestations causing anemia and tick-borne diseases. Overall, these products are safe, effective, and very beneficial to your pet’s overall well-being.

We would like to announce the new services that Dr. Carlie Stilwell, DVM is now offering for breeders at Mountain View Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Stilwell graduated from Ross University in 2020 with her DVM and a special focus in small and large animal reproduction. Below are some of the canine services offered:
* Breeding Soundness Exam (Males and Females)
* Vaginal cytology
* In-House Progesterone testing (results in as little as 45 minutes)
* PennHIP
* OFA
* Pregnancy Check (via ultrasound and radiographs)
* Off site laboratory testing
* Artificial Insemination (via Trans-vaginal or surgical)
* Delivery Assistance (including c-sections)

This super sweet girl is looking for her new home! Sunny is a 7 year old spayed Anatolian Shepherd mix. She is up to date on all vaccines and is already microchipped! Sunny would do best as a single pet and with a family with no small children. Sunny is a very playful happy girl that loves to go on walks and she is respectful on a leash!

Sunny is available for adoption through the Hope Fund Rescue.
