There's a fungus among us! We have been seeing a major uptick in Blastomycosis cases lately. In the last 3 months we have run 10 Blasto tests and 6 have been positive. Know which signs and symptoms to watch for in your pet and avoid areas where there has been recent uprooting of the soil!

Summer is a great time for swimming but be on the look out for blue green algae. Symptoms to watch out for are seizures, respiratory distress, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, panting and disorientation. If you suspect your dog was exposed to blue green algae please call your vet right away.
Remember, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If your not sure the water is safe, best to find something else to do.

Did you know that cyanobacteria (AKA blue-green algae) blooms have look-alikes? Learn the difference and when in doubt, stay out! Learn more about blue-green algae:https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p01888.pdf

Just came here to say…WE HATE TICKS!!! Thankfully there are a lot of great products out there for prevention. That being said, no preventative is 100% so routine checks of your dog or cat are encouraged. Take our technician Angie’s dog for example. Ember loves!!!! going on walks with her mom. Ember is routinely on Nexgard monthly. Angie does an excellent job checking her over each night before bed. Last night she did a solid look over for about 15 minutes before feeling confident she found all the ticks. This morning she woke up to two dead ticks on the bed under Ember 🤮 thankfully they were both dead due to the Nexgard but just goes to show how tricky these little buggers are!

If you have a cat, you know how stoic they can be when it comes to pain. Some common signs of arthritis and pain in cats is hiding more, sleeping more, hesitant to jumping up or down (see video), and slow to get up or up/down the stairs. The video in the comments shows more examples of clinical signs in cats that are in pain and this link takes you to a quiz where you can see if your cat is showing signs of pain: https://www.zoetispetcare.com/checklist/osteoarthritis-checklist-cat

If you feel your cat is displaying any of these signs we have wonderful news for you! Solensia is the first and only FDA approved treatment to control arthritis pain in cats! It is a once a month injection that targets nerve growth factor to control pain. 77% of cats showed improvement in signs of pain when treated monthly in a 3 month study. We have used this medication on a few patients now and have had really great results so far. Little Sassy is here to confirm how well it works! If you would like to learn more or try it with your pet please call the office to schedule a consultation.

With Easter coming up and everyone bringing home beautiful Easter flowers, please check what is in your bouquet before bringing them home (especially if you have cats). Even the water the flowers are in can be deadly to cats.
