We are an all volunteer organization dedicated to working with law enforcement to provide safety equipment and training to K-9 teams. We provide custom-fit ballistic vests that are made here in California. Each year we host our Cover Your K9 Emergency Medicine Course & provide complete K9 Trauma Kits to over 150 K9 handlers. We now offer a new Tactical Canine Casualty Care Course & provide K9 SWAT

One of the most enthusiastic & dedicated K-9 handlers that we have ever known - Officer Kevin Tonn of the Galt Police Department. Officer Tonn lost his life in the line of duty on 1-15-2013 & his family, a loving community & his dedicated K-9 partner K-9 Yaro were left without the love, light and humor that he brought to all of us. Officer Tonn loved being a K-9 handler & working with Galt K9 Unit & his beloved K-9 Yaro more than all of the prior work he had done in his service with the US Army & as a firefighter. He came out every year for not only our annual Cover Your K-9 Events but any K-9 event that he could possibly come out to with K-9 Yaro. It was his dream job and that is how we will always remember him - with his faithful partner K-9 Yaro by his side. Join us in remembering Officer K-9 Tonn and his service and sacrifice in keeping our communities safe.

Note: K-9 Yaro turns 15 in March & has been lovingly cared for by Julie Baldwin, his friend and fellow Foothills K9 Association Board Member.

K-9 Kino CA-TF4 (EOW 9/11/2019) was an extraordinary working dog and loyal partner to Capt Chuck Wong. He served for 10 years as a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue canine specializing in locating live victims of natural disasters and acts of domestic terrorism.

In 2017, still working at the age of 11, K-9 Kino deployed with Capt. Wong & Task Force 4 for 28 days – assisting with the search for victims of Tropical Storm Harvey in Texas and then going on to assist with searches after Tropical Storm Irma in Florida. Always energetic, he worked hard during the day and then lifted the spirits of his weary TF4 team members each evening.

K-9 Kino had a lot of drive for work but maintained a focused and calm demeanor. He shared a special bond with Capt. Wong & you could see this as they worked together. Kino excelled at skills across the board, including agility, wide area search, building search and challenging rubble pile searches. In 2014 he participated in the first & only Urban Shield US&R Canine Competition at NASA AMES, taking first place in a field of FEMA US&R teams from across the country.

K-9 Kino also had a special relationship with the Police and Working K-9 Foundation over the years, serving as a K-9 demo dog along side Dr. Erin Troy at our K-9 Emergency Medicine Courses and being an Ambassador with his teammate K-9 Kona for our Cover Your K-9 Air for Animals Program with Pet Food Express to provide Pet Oxygen Mask Kits to local Fire Departments.

K-9 Kino passed away on September 11th, 2019 and due to restrictions related to the pandemic, his memorial was only able to be held this summer. As a tribute to how many people K-9 Kino touched over this long career, everyone from the Chief to his TF4 teammates shed a tear and shared some smiles remembering what a wonderful and iconic working dog he was. We know that Capt. Wong misses you every day. We thank you for your many years of service K-9 Kino. We will always remember you…

Join us in remembering and honoring K-9 Sirius, Explosive Detection Dog and faithful partner to Officer David Lim, who perished in the collapse of the Tower Two while on duty at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Godspeed K-9 Sirius...

As we reflect on the tragic human losses of 9/11, please remember Explosives Detection K9 Sirius (K-9 17), who perished while on duty at Tower Two of the World Trade Center. K-9 Sirius was the only law enforcement K-9 to be killed in the Sept 11th attacks.

K9 Sirius, a 41/2 year old Labrador Retriever, was a faithful partner to Ofc David Lim of the Port Authority PD and they were tasked with checking vehicles and doing explosive detection sweeps of the World Trade Center complex.

The ensuing time following the collapse of the Towers would see the largest deployment of Search and Rescue and Human Remains Detection K-9s that the world has ever seen.

Join us in remembering K-9 Sirius and paying tribute to his service. We are thinking of Officer Lim today as he remembers his K-9 partner. Also honoring the service of the many K-9s and handlers that responded to the disasters of that tragic day.

Galt PD Officer & K-9 handler Kevin Tonn (EOW 1-15-2013) was a dedicated K-9 handler & Peace Officer. He loved his work & his faithful partner K-9 Yaro even more. K-9 Yaro was with him night & day & he spent all of his extra hours training him. He was especially proud to demonstrate how he taught K9 Yaro to open the rear door to his patrol car & hop in. There was an extra special bond between Officer Tonn and K-9 Yaro.

Officer Tonn was always willing to go the extra mile to make things right and he took pride in his work. On the other hand, he had a devilish sense of humor & no one was immune. He had an infectious laugh and was a joy to be around.

This week, on the 8th Anniversary of the day that he lost his life protecting his community, we attended the Memorial in his honor and we are sending our prayers to his family at home, his colleagues at Galt K9 Unit, the Galt Police Department and all of those who knew and loved him.

His faithful partner K-9 Yaro will turn 15 in March & he is cherished & cared for by Julie Baldwin & the Tonn Family. It is very poignant to see K-9 Yaro with Julie at the EOW Memorial for Officer Tonn every year. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of his special K-9 partner.

We remember and miss Officer Kevin Tonn for the way that he lived his life, not by the way he left this earth.
Godspeed Officer Tonn. We will never forget you...

Words are not enough to express our appreciation for all of the hard work that K-9 teams put in to protect our streets!
Meet one of them that is close to our hearts...K-9 Brandon of the California Highway Patrol. After having a medical issue that caused a broken leg in 2019, K-9 Brandon fought his way back to duty last year. He is loves his job and is one tough guy!
(Thank you to the UCDavis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for helping him get back in shape.)

Thank you to the loyal, brave, fearless & faithful Law Enforcement K-9 Heroes working day & night to keep our communities safe. One of them is K-9 Brandon of the California Highway Patrol, who works the graveyard shift with his partner to protect the areas covered by the CHP Golden Gate Division. 5 yo K-9 Brandon is trained for both Patrol & Explosive Detection duties & he has helped to take many hardcore criminals off of the streets. We were glad to hear that he is back up to speed as he was off duty for 8 months last year due to a broken leg. To K-9 Brandon & all of the hardworking K-9 teams around the world: we appreciate your dedication and courage. Stay safe!

Good wishes to all of the K-9 teams out there working hard to protect our communities during the holidays!
We met Pleasant Hill PD K-9 Bodie this week & provided him with a new Cover Your K-9 Trauma Kit. We also sized him for a new custom fit ballistic vest. When things are back on track next year his handler will be able to attend our 8 hr Cover Your K9 Emergency Medicine Course.
K-9 Bodie is a 4 yr old Dutch Shepherd Malinois cross with a great personality & serious drive to work. He went on duty with his partner in May of this year & has helped to track down some serious criminals. With your help we can provide essential safety gear to K-9 Bodie & many other K-9 heroes.
We appreciate the support!🐾💙🐾

Retired K-9 Grizzly is having emergency surgery tonight & we need your help to get him through this crisis. He was rushed to the vet after falling ill and it was discovered that he has a mass in his abdomen. Update: the surgery was successful & K-9 Grizzly woke up this morning feeling good enough to be able to go home to his family this afternoon. They did a biopsy & will have the results next week. In the meantime, as it was major abdominal surgery he will need to chill out & get some R&R to recover well.
K-9 Grizzly served faithfully for many years with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office & just retired in February. When K-9s retire the responsibility for their care falls to their handler & family so funds are being raised to help offset these costs.
Retired K-9 Grizzly is an 8 year old Dutch Shepherd with an outgoing personality & an abundance of energy. He has a penchant for hamburgers so let's help him recover & have a big burger soon.
We hoping that we can all pull together to help him get through this! We appreciate any help with sharing and pitching in.

Happy 16th (yes 16th!) Birthday weekend to retired Galt Police Department K-9 Bo. We first met K-9 Bo 12 years ago when he was a busy young K-9 taking criminals off of the streets & competing in K-9 trials. K-9 Bo is still very busy but now he is at work rounding up every ball & toy that he can find in his yard. He has a huge fan club & has brought joy to many with his engaging smile. With the help of our friend Julie & Foothills K9 Association & Galt K9 Unit, Bo has had a lot of love & care. We are wishing Bo many more rubs & lots of squeaky balls. We love you ret K-9 Bo!

You go K-9 Bo!!! So excited to hear that the legendary 15 yo retired K-9 Bo is recovering from a scary bout of pneumonia. We are so grateful for the wonderful care that Foothills K-9 Association provides & the home & TLC that Julie gives to K-9 Bo We have known K-9 Bo & provided safety equipment since he was just a young upstart serving with the Unit with Officer Brian Nino. We stand ready to pitch toward K-9 Bo's care when he needs it. Keep on keepin' on K-9 Bo...its not your time to go...

Extra special thanks to Dr Nilsen at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center for the quick and correct diagnosis of Retired K9 Bo on 6/17/2020 and for the “all clear” chest X-ray today! Whoo HOO! He’s not done yet, folks! This little dog is already planning for his 16th birthday in 2 months and 3 days. We are so pleased to see his smiling face. Thanks to everyone who kept him in their thoughts and prayers and thanks to those who sent special gifts for our senior K9. You GO, BO! 🐾💙🐾

Retired Fremont PD K-9 Jarrdo is in the hospital and we need help for his care! K-9 Jarrdo had emergency surgery to clear an intestinal obstruction and he is currently hospitalized. We have donated $1,000 from our Cover Your K9 Retired K-9 Care Fund & need help to cover the rest of his bill. There is a balance of $7,700 still to be covered for his surgery & follow up care. We know these are tough times & appreciate any assistance to help K-9 Jarrdo with the care that he deserves.
K-9 Jarrdo vom Haus Tyson served for over 5 years protecting the community of Fremont & nearby cities as a patrol & narcotics detection K-9. He is well known and loved by the school children in the community & helped to take many bad guys off of the streets when he was working.
The good news is that K-9 Jarrdo made it through the surgery & he may be able to go home to his handler & family tonight if he can eat & get his GI system going again!
When K-9s retire the cost of care rest solely with their family and as K-9 Jarrdo helped to serve us for many years, we feel an obligation to help lift that load from his handler & family.
We also appreciate any prayers for his recovery & release from the hospital soon. It's tough on him with the Covid-19 protocols at the hospitals now as Jarrdo cannot see his family until he is released.

8PM update: We just heard the K-9 Jarrdo was able to keep some food down & that bodes well for his release...

Thank you to the doctors & team IronHorse VetCare for taking good care of him!

Carol & Ian set on a walk from a vacation rental to see the sunset on Valentine's Day only to become hopelessly lost in the nearby wilderness. They survived on muddy water from a puddle & had nearly given up hope when a K-9 team searching in the dense brush heard their cries. Saturday morning CARDA - California Rescue Dog Association K-9 handler Rich Cassens & his dog K-9 Groot were paired with 'flanker' 18 yo Marin Co Sheriff's SAR Volunteer Quincy Webster - it was the 8th day since the couple had gone missing & the 7th day of the extensive search that utilized extensive ground, airborne & water resources. It is no understatement to say that it was a miracle that Carol & Ian, both in their 70s, had survived that long & even more of a miracle that they were found in time.
Kudos to the hundreds of volunteers from Marin County Sheriff's Office, Marin County Search and Rescue & the two dozen agencies & units that assisted in this incredible, grueling & successful search (the 3rd MCSO search in 8 days). Godspeed to Ian and Carol during their recovery...

What an amazing week for the Marin County Search and Rescue & Marin County Sheriff's Office! We are posting two successful rescues back to back that involved the teamwork of hundreds of searchers & law enforcement personnel as well as K-9 team members. 77 year old Robert Bennett was went missing while on his regular hike this past Tues. Hundreds of personnel were deployed from numerous agencies including helicopters from Sonoma SO & the CHP. Mr. Bennett was located close to midnight Wed by K-9 teams working working the scene together. With the use of scent from his vehicle, tracking dog K-9 Zinka & her handler picked up scent & followed it up a culvert to rugged terrain further up the mountain. Area dog K-9 Luna & her handler picked it up from there & were able to zero in on his location! Mr. Bennett was transported to a local hospital where he is under care for a possible stroke that may have occurred during his hike. Kudos to great search management by the Marin County Search and Rescue and all of the volunteers who helped out. Paws up to the great teamwork by the K-9 teams on scene!

Retired Sacramento Sheriff K-9 Levi has been missing from the rural area near his home in Olivehurst (35 mi N of Sacramento) since Christmas Day & his family is desperate to find him. The search is expanding to all of Northern California & you can help by first spreading the word on social media, posting with your local neighborhood groups on Facebook & NextDoor and checking with local shelters (online & by stopping by).
Help us bring retired K9 Levi back home for the New Year!

It is not known if he is still outside or if some Good Samaritan picked him up not knowing that he is lost. He could also be in a shelter in another county. With a week having gone by, it is urgent that we all work together to find Levi and get him back home to his loving handler and family.

There have been ground searches every day & earlier this week a drone search in the area where he went missing. The Sacramento Sheriff's helicopter has also joined in the search. We need all hands on deck to now spread the word further!

Further descriptive information:

Join us in sending best wishes to United States Park Police K-9 Choco & his handler Officer Neil Wu on their retirement together on Christmas night. K-9 Choco, a Lab & German Short-haired Pointer mix, turned 9 this year. He worked to protect the citizens & visitors in the SF Bay Area for 7 yrs; pounding the pavement with his partner for thousands of miles as an Explosives Detection K-9. As a team they did hundreds of Explosive Detection sweeps prior to parades, large events & for visiting Heads of State. Some of their favorite assignments together were joining the many other specialized K-9 teams to protect those attending the many events surrounding Super Bowl 50 and San Francisco Fleet Week.
K-9 Choco will live at home with Officer Wu & will hopefully still be able to drop in on K9 training to get some of that energy out! Choco has joined us for the Cover Your K9 Fundraiser Pet Food Express every year so we hope that he will still come out to greet folks in July!
Officer Wu served with the United States Park Police SF Field Office for 21 years & we want to thank both Officer Wu and K-9 Choco for their hard work & dedication to protecting our communities!

Join us to thank the Travis Air Force Base Military 60th SFS MWD Unit for their service! Come out to meet their handlers & Military Working Dogs this Sat Sept 14th at the Bay Area Pet Fair. Sun Sept 15th will feature Concord PD K9 & other local teams. A great opportunity to support our K9 teams, learn about the jobs that they do to protect our communities & get some cool K9 gear. Please share & help us spread the word!
This is some of the action from last year with the K9 demos with the Travis Military Working Dog unit and our Cover Your K9 teams (including our very own K9 ambassadors).
The free Bay Area Pet Fair will have lots of family activities, dog sports(dock diving, agility) & adoptable pets looking for new homes.
Hours will be 10AM-5PM at the Alameda Co Fairgrounds.
