Check it out!! 🙀 15-year-old Hoku and his best cat companion, 9-year-old Wicky, have been turned into artwork!
Thanks to the gifted and giving artists at Ani-mal's Design, you can buy your own print of our beloved cat-dog duo, Hoku and Wicky. 💕
When you order one of these precious prints, 100% of your purchase goes directly to help cover the hefty cost of Hoku's specialty vet visit back in June, as well as provide these cuties with whatever they need in their golden years! (Link in comments).
We are so thankful for the artists, Dahyron and Edward, for using their incredible artistic talent to help make a difference in the lives of our senior pets. 🫶 Y'all are the best!
You see how Mimi wears sunglasses? Very demure. 😽 Very mindful. ✨
18-year-old Mia, aka Mimi, is one of our Sanctuary seniors, meaning we're committed to her for the rest of her life. This sweet and sassy old lady has been part the Young at Heart family for nearly five years!
She lives for long naps, heated beds, hiding under blankets, crunchy chicken treats, enthusiastic chin brushing, and summertime suntanning in the Chateau Catio. 😎
You can help Mimi maintain the lavish lifestyle she's become accustomed to in her golden years. How? By becoming on of her monthly Sanctuary Sponsors!
11-year-old Nova is shy and stand-offish with strangers, but once you've earned her trust, there is no better feeling. ❤️
Mary has been working with us at Young at Heart for almost 2 years. She started as an Animal Care Team member, and over time, Mary has not only taken on new responsibilities as our Foster Home Coordinator, but she has also taken on the challenge of becoming one of Nova's close, trusted humans.
Safe to say she is doing a spectacular job in all of her roles. 😉

Young at Heart is currently looking to expand our foster program! We need local families who live within 25 miles of Woodstock, IL to open up their hearts and homes to senior dogs and cats who are otherwise at risk of euthanasia.
Whether you are interested in being a Standard Foster for adoptable senior pets, a Vacation Foster that can step up for short periods of time, or a permanent Sanctuary Foster for our neediest oldies, WE NEED YOU! Because the fact of the matter is the more foster homes we have, the more precious old lives we can save!
If you're interested in learning more about fostering for Young at Heart, we urge you to join Mary at our upcoming Foster Care Info Session!

7-year-old Rosie is a sweet and spunky FIV+ princess who is hoping to find her forever home soon. 🤞
With people, she is all sugar! Though she is pretty independent, she does love to crawl into people's laps and make gentle biscuits on their legs or tummies before she curls up for a cute snooze. 🥰 She even prefers to play with people - always choosing an interactive wand toy session over anything else.
As sweet as she is, Rosie also knows how to bring the spice. When the mood hits, she is a right spitfire, zooming around her space, batting at any toy she sees, and maybe even chasing her unsuspecting roomies.
Rosie tolerates other cats rather well, but with her FIV+ diagnosis, she would need to live with fellow FIV+ kitties or non-FIV kitties who can be trusted to keep the peace. We're not quite sure what her take on dogs is just yet.
Learn more about Rosie, her ideal home, and how to adopt on our website. (Link in comments).
10-year-old Dot and 11-year-old Yuki understand that there's nothing quite as cozy as volunteer cuddles. 🥰

It's impossible to have the Monday blues when you're hanging with best buds, Tiger and Flufferton!
10-year-old Tiger and 16-year-old Flufferton are two, grumpy old men, and the one thing they enjoy more than being grumpy together is hanging out with their staff bestie, Sarah. 💕

Great news about Susie, one of our newest rescues:
Our in-house vet team had discovered a large mass on 10-year-old Susie's spleen during her initial intake exam. It was top priority to perform surgery to remove it ASAP, so about a week ago, that's exactly what Dr. Cassandra and her team did.
Susie was an amazing patient, and she has been recovering from her big procedure under the watchful eye of our Medical Director, Jen. While Susie still has many other lumps and bumps that need to be removed and possibly biopsied, we now know that the large splenic mass is BENIGN!!! 🎉 No cancer, it's "just" an overgrowth of splenic tissue and a large hematoma (or blood-filled capsule).
Given the size of the mass though, had it ruptured, Susie's second chance would have been cut short. So, HUUUUGE kudos to Dr. Cassandra, her team, and her excellent surgical skills. This surgery was life-saving!
Once Susie has recovered a bit more, we will move forward with her dental and the other masses. But, for now, we celebrate. 🥳 YAY!! YAY!! YAY!!

8-year-old Margie is large, in charge, and looking for a forever home! 😻
This adorable torbie girl is independent yet snuggly, sweet yet sassy, and an all around purrfect companion. In her ideal world she would be the only cat, but she is perfectly capable of co-habitating with other cats, whether she likes to admit it or not.
Humans, on the other hand - oh, Margie LOVES people! She loves to play with humans, "hunt" down toys with humans, sit by her humans, etc. If a person is around, she's choosing them over another animal every day.
To learn whether or not sweet Margie is the right fit for you and your family, fill out an adoption application and come meet her! (See comments below).
8-year-old Lady Bug basking in the glow of the setting sun 🌅
This playful and sweet Beagle girl is officially cootie-free, which allowed her to move into one of our community dog rooms here at the adoption center. She has joined the pack of kooky, old dogs in the Main Dog Den.
Although Lady Bug was a little nervous during first impressions, there was nothing but loose, happy tail wags all around! 😍 She is certainly loving the extra human attention she is getting, and you know what? We love giving it to her.
WAIT! DON'T SCROLL! The adorable Azul is here to warn you that tickets to our upcoming Silver Paws Gala Speakeasy are ALMOST SOLD OUT! 🙀

❤️ WISHLIST WEDNESDAY ❤️
We put two of our most trustworthy "Littles" - Maggie and Lady - in charge of supply inventory and re-stocking this week. They rolled up their sleeves and put their lil paws to work, and realized we're running low on some very important items!!
At one point in time, we had what felt like an entire storage locker filled with paper towels, and in less than 6 months, we have blown through them all. Although if we think about it, 9-year-old Lady herself provides us with multiple messes to clean up on the daily, so it's really not that surprising. 🤭
But worst of all (in 14-year-old Maggie's opinion, anyway) is that we're almost out of PILL POCKETS! NOT THE PILL POCKETS!!! 😭 Those things are like gold around here. We use them multiple times a day for doling out medications, but our senior pups love 'em so much that they beg for them as everyday treats too.
These adorable little girls are in charge of re-stocking such necessary items for all of our senior pets to benefit, but there's just one problem... Neither of them know how! Could you help our cute, little girls stock up on paper towels, pill pockets, and other much-needed supplies?
🥺

🏠 SANCTUARY FOSTER HOME NEEDED!
Hi there. My name is Charm, and in case you don't already know, I am an 8-year-old kitty who was rescued by Young at Heart in early July after being dropped off at animal control's doorstep. A LOT has happened since being rescued. Where should I start?
Well, I suppose the glaringly obvious place to begin is with my amputation. You see, I was rescued with a very large mass on my chest, tucked under my right armpit. That big tumor was incredibly involved and very complicated to remove without risking further damage. So, the safest thing for Dr. Cassandra to do was to amputate my right front leg.
Although it felt real funny to be missing a leg at first, I have been adjusting and recovering spectacularly! Everyone tells me I'm a very strong and brave girl, and that I've been the perfect patient. As a "tripod" kitty, I act and live as any other cat would. 😺 I love to play and bat around toys, and I still roll around on my back as usual, asking the humans for affection. I am much happier without that large tumor, even if it meant losing a leg. Who needs 4 of 'em anyway!?
As delighted as I am to have this second chance, I am not "out of the woods," as the humans say. After my amputation procedure, my tumor was sent for pathology to confirm whether or not it was cancerous. And, well... here's the not so delightful part.
My pathology came back, and I have osteosarcoma - an aggressive type of bone cancer. 😔 They tell me that treatment typically involves IV chemo and radiation, but it would not significantly increase my survival time. That being said, osteosarcoma can be less aggressive in cats, and the amputation that I had may give me a longer time without recurrence or a spread to other parts of my body.
So, there is always hope!! I am holding onto that hope with every fibre of my being. 🤗 I am a young girl with a fiery, fighting spirit, and I am not the kind of kitty cat that is quick to accept defeat. I know that I have time - WAY more time than I would have gotten if I hadn't been rescued - and I plan to use that time to enjoy every single little thing life has to offer.
And I truly hope to spend that time in the home and arms of a loving Sanctuary Foster family who is committed to caring for me for however long I have left. 😻
I am a sweet girl who LOVES to snuggle on laps, get brushed, and I will insist on sharing the bed with you at night. I am active, some calling me a spitfire, and I love to hunt down my toy mice and string toys. I am a catnip connoisseur 🍃 (it's completely legal!), and I love to crunch-crunch-crunch on kibble and other hard treats.
I am scared of dogs, and I do not like sharing a space with other cats, so I would need to be the only pet in the household. Plus, given my circumstances, I feel no shame in selfishly wanting all the attention on me and me alone. I deserve it! ✨
If you are interested in offering me the love and shelter of a Sanctuary Foster Home while Young at Heart continues providing me with veterinary care, I encourage you to come to our upcoming Foster Care Info Session to learn about how to start the process!

❣️ ADOPTED & LOVED ❣️
9-year-olds Bogey and Mouse - our yin and yang senior kitties - have found the BEST forever home with repeat adopters, Irene and Michael!
After sadly saying goodbye to Ebby, their previous Young at Heart alum, Irene and Michael were finally ready to welcome some new, deserving senior cats into their hearts and home.
Bonded pair, Bogey and Mouse, caught their eye immediately. How could they not!? These two older boys, who are opposite sides of the same coin, are sooo easy to fall in love with. ❤️ Bogey took to Michael's lap rather quickly during their appointment, already in love with and grateful for his new dad.
Bogey and Mouse are going to be loved beyond words by Irene and Michael. They will have a nice, quiet, and adoring household that will give the shy and nervous Mouse all the time and space he needs to truly blossom. And Bogey, well, we weren't worried at all about his adjustment, and we were right about that! Just a couple days after bringing the boys home, Irene and Michael checked in to let us know that Bogey was already sleeping in bed with them and happily sits in the recliner with his dad, acting like he's been there forever. Mouse was still hiding, but had been caught zooming around with Bogey at one point. Slowly but surely we know both boys will be out and about with their loving parents.
We were elated to be able to bring this happy, new family together, and we're even happier knowing that Bogey and Mouse are going to get all they could ever want in their golden years. 🥰 Congratulations everyone!
❣️ ADOPTED & LOVED ❣️
12-year-old Millie is in her forever home with her new best friend, Lisa!
Lisa visited our Catio Café for the first time this year, and during her visit, our normally shy Millie came right up and introduced herself. 😻 She stayed close to Lisa and accepted gentle pets, becoming the highlight of the visit. Millie was such a purrfect host that Lisa came back the very next week to spend more time with her!
It was during that second visit that Lisa concluded she wanted to make Millie her best friend forever. She went home, filled out an adoption application, and then all the pieces began to fall into their rightful places.
There's no doubt in our hearts that Millie will always be cared for and comforted by her new companion, Lisa. Our sweet, shy tabby girl will want for nothing in her golden years! ❤️✨ Thank you for adopting an older pet!
Little Dot, enjoying a lazy Sunday. She’s recovering so well from her hernia and mastectomy surgeries! She’s the sweetest little patient ❤️
Thank you to everyone who came out today to kick off Dog Days At Grounds Coffee Bar in Crystal Lake! Gideon was a rockstar and made so many new friends. Couldn’t make it? That’s OK, you can still support this delicious fundraiser by stopping in to grab a specialty drink - a Salty Dog Latte or a Strawberry Shortcat Refresher and $1 from each sale will be donated back to our senior pets! YUM! 😋
A huge thank you to our good friends at Nature's Feed for hosting a fun adoption event to showcase our senior pups. Our "Littles" had a fun field trip with their favorite volunteers, met so many generous people and made lots of new friends. Thank you to everyone who came out to visit. We appreciate your support. Lady, Bonnie and Princess Magnolia send their ❤ .
These three cuties are resting up for a fun day tomorrow at Nature's Feed: Natural Pet Products, Pet Food, and Pet Supplies for the YAH Senior Pet Adoption Event . Satisfy your sweets craving by stopping by between 11am - 2pm to meet Bonnie (Bon Bon), Lady and Princess Magnolia. 🍭🐶🐶🐶 See you there!
Please join us in congratulating our fabulous volunteer Laura on being awarded our August Volunteer Of The Month. Laura has been involved with Young at Heart for years volunteering at our adoption center, being an ambassador at many community events, and putting her all into making fundraisers fun and successful. "I REALLY enjoy anything when it involves YAH and promoting what we are all about. Even weeding the back trail is important - for the safety of the animals and the visual enjoyment for volunteers. It’s an extension of caring about Smokey’s Haven, and all of its residents, staff who call it their second home, as well as current and potential donors or volunteers." Thank you Laura for your enthusiasm, your passion for our mission and your fierce devotion to giving the best care to every senior pet. We are so grateful for you. Congratulations! 🎉

Snickers (10), Star (12), and Nova (11) all came to Young at Heart from different walks of life, and now, together, these ladies get to enjoy comfort, compassion, and companionship in their golden years.
Thank you for everything you do that allows us to give senior pets safety and security. It is a privilege to take care of these sweet, old creatures. ❤

Itty bitty 10-year-old Maddie has found her forever person with new dad, Alfred!
This little girl packs a whole lot of cuteness in that teeny stature of hers, so it's no surprise that she was snatched up as soon as possible. Alfred was smitten immediately, ready to bring her home and do whatever he needed to do to keep her healthy and happy in her golden years. 🥰
Maddie is going to be VERY spoiled and loved beyond words. Thank you, Alfred! Congratulations!!

Pal was rescue #8 this week, and when he first arrived, he was FREAKED OUT. Yowling, hissing, hiding, swatting, and terribly distraught that his world had been turned upside down. How do you explain to a sweet old senior that they are ok? Sometimes you simply can’t. But as a Fear Free™️ shelter, we have tools at our disposal to help senior pets through the adjustment period until they realize they are safe and loved here. In PAL’s case, the vet prescribed him medication to reduce his Fear, Anxiety, and Stress, also known as FAS. There is NO reason an animal needs to feel fear when we have a way to help them. Pal was started on meds right away and now look at our boy this morning! Happy, playful, and feeling so much better about everything! We owe it to the animals that rely us for their wellbeing to do everything we can to bring them comfort. ❤️ #rescueresponsibly #fearfreeshelters #fearfreecertified #youngatheartpets
Rating our adoptable senior dogs based on how they do on the new agility course! Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks? Our old pooches love their time out in the meadow and don't mind doing a little something for us, as long as we give them a little something in return (AKA a handful of treats) 😉 Thank you to the lovely donor who bought the equipment off our Amazon wishlist ❤️
This certified yapper is Double Stuft Oreo, and he is looking for a home where he has his own family to chat the day away with! 😻 Back in 2022, a much bigger Double Stuft had been taken to a local vet clinic for vomiting and diarrhea. His guardians refused any treatment, instead requesting euthanasia. 😔 Luckily, the vet convinced them to surrender him instead, and then they called us for help. We happily said yes to saving Double Stuft, and we welcomed all 30 lbs of him into our care! In the time he's been with us, the once obese Double Stuft has shrunk to half his original size and is a healthy 15 lbs. Now that he is at a safe weight and maintaining it well, he can do all kinds of things he thought he'd never be able to do again - like run, jump, and climb. He has far more opportunity to live a long, happy life, and this 9-year-old chatterbox wants to do just that in a home where he can be the only pet. Interested in adopting? adoptaseniorpet.com/cats/double-stuft
10-year-old Bonnie & 15-year-old Clyde were rescued after they were found together as strays. They have always been quite a dynamic, little duo. 💕 Bonnie is a spunky spitfire girl who loves to play & run as much as she loves a good nap. Clyde is a more low-key, low-energy guy compared to his energetic sister. These two senior pooches bring out the best in each other. Bonnie's spirit is infectious, and she's the only one who can seem to encourage Clyde to let loose a little. Clyde's calm demeanor reminds Bonnie to stop and slow down every once in a while, usually to join him for a nap. As different as they may seem, Bonnie & Clyde are the perfect match. Partners in crime and in cuddles. Together, they will bring TONS of life, love, and laughter to their forever home. ✨ Learn more about how you can adopt this bonded pair → adoptaseniorpet.com
14-year-old Princess Maggie is one of our most recent rescues. She had been found as a stray and brought to a local shelter, who then reached out to us. Now that she’s safe and sound, it was time to get her looking like a true princess again 👑 Sweet Maggie had matted hair on her legs and armpits that were causing her pain, so it was time for a day at the salon. ✂️ She was the BEST girl!! She sat/stood super well for her entire groom, and she really enjoyed the little beef treats she was rewarded with for being a good girl. Young at Heart volunteer and professional groomer, Elisabeth, came in to give Maggie the makeover she deserved. Now she’s cuter and comfier than ever, and we cant get enough! 🎀💕 The people will be lining up down the block to adopt her once she’s available! Thank you, Elisabeth!!
15-year-old Clyde is absolutely killin' it 💪 during his first time on our new water treadmill. GO CLYDE! Clyde experiences the typical aches and pains that come with old age, but weekly Hydrotherapy at our very own vet clinic allows him to exercise those muscles with ease! _ Clyde and his sister, Bonnie, are looking for their forever home! See the link in our comments to learn more about them.

I think both the people and the pets had an absolute blast in this challenge. 😊 At the end of the day, one DIY enrichment game impressed our seniors more than the rest, and that was Kristi’s snuffle tube for Snow White! Way to go, girls!! 🎉
#ShelterSlumberPawty pawticipant, Sue, has mouthwatering challenge for you! 🎉 If you can help us raise $1,000 by 10pm CST, Sue will indulge in a spoonful of our senior pups' favorite sweet treat: Blue Buffalo canned food! 🙀 Mmmmm, delicious! Ever wondered what meal times look like at Young at Heart’s cage-free adoption center? 👀 Our Animal Care Team have to juggle different diets, different personalities, and different spaces - all while the senior dogs and cats are loudly demanding they get their food “right now!!” Though it takes a little more time and effort to make sure every single senior is getting what they need when they need it, the contented, grateful looks on their face after some good grub makes it all worth it. ❤ _ Your kindness is what allows us to do whatever it takes to ensure the senior pets at our adoption center feel safe & secure! Your gifts to our #ShelterSlumberPawty will make it so even more seniors get to experience the comfort, compassion, and companionship they deserve in their golden years. → srpets.co/YAHpawty
