❣️ ADOPTED & LOVED ❣️

7-year-old Willow has found a new family with our own Animal Care Team Manager, Lilly!

Willow was rescued after her guardian fell ill and could no longer care for her. She was always a shy girl, nervous of this new life, but also undeniably sweet. All she needed was a quiet home and a loving, understanding family; Lilly, her partner AJ, and YAH alum, Toof, wanted to give that to her. ☺️

Lilly reports that since adopting Willow, "she is a lot more comfortable exploring her new home. Willow spends most of her spare time demanding cuddes and showing off her biscuit making skills. AJ absolutely adores her and loves babying her, which she absolutely loves. She seems to be the happiest girl!"

Yayyy for Willow! 🎉 Thank you to Lilly, AJ, and Toof for welcoming another deserving senior kitty into your hearts and home.

Happy roly-poly-oly boy, Lucky ☺️☘️

As you can see, 12-year-old Lucky is still in very high spirits despite his two ruptured cruciate ligaments (ACL/CCL). Those lovely pain meds are relieving any discomfort he may be feeling, he's been doing great with his easy-going physical therapy in the water treadmill, and he loves all the attention staff is giving him as he awaits his first orthopedic surgery to repair those ruptures.

And absolutely nothing is going to keep this happy boy from rolling in the grass! 💚

Sometimes we sit and think about if Lucky were to injure himself this severely elsewhere, there's always the likelihood that he would have been euthanized simply due to the cost of the medical care and his older age. But we're not allowed to dwell on that harsh reality very often, because we're quickly reminded that there is an awesome community of pet lovers out there that believe older pets deserve the world, and they aim to give it to them.

It's because of YOU that Lucky has this opportunity to live out his golden years with comfort, dignity, and all the human adoration he could possibly tolerate. 🥰 You gotta know how amazing that is! What a gift you have given sweet Lucky. With you in his corner, he is going into 2025 with so much love and light on his side.

Thank you for all the love, kindness, and generosity you offer homeless senior pets like Lucky and all his older friends here at Young at Heart. You're saving sweet senior lives, and we are constantly in awe of your commitment and compassion!

Dear Friends,

As another year comes to a close, my heart is filled with gratitude for everything you’ve made possible for senior pets at Young at Heart. ❤

Thanks to your compassion, older dogs and cats who once faced an uncertain future now have the chance to experience love, comfort, and care in their golden years.

Your generosity has given homeless senior pets like sweet ol' Flufferton access to life-saving veterinary care, nourishing meals, a safe and comfortable place to rest their heads, and the tender loving care they need to thrive. You’ve helped them find not just homes, but hearts willing to embrace them.

With your continued support, we can make 2025 a year of even more second chances and brighter tomorrows for senior pets in need.

As we close out 2024, I invite you to celebrate all you’ve done for older pets in need by making a gift that will transform even more lives in the year ahead. And there’s no better time—if you donate by midnight on 12/31, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous friend of Young at Heart. Your kindness will go twice as far to provide hope and love to homeless senior pets!

Your unwavering support means the world to these deserving senior pets and to all of us at Young at Heart. Thank you for believing in their second chances and for being such an important part of this mission. Thank you for giving homeless senior pets the love and care they deserve.

Wishing you a wonderful New Year filled with joy, good health, and love!

Cheesin' with adoptable 11-year-old Snickers 😁

Snickers is the embodiment of Young at Heart. This older gal has a lust for life and an affinity for all people she meets. She is excited about basically everything: waking up, eating, ripping up toys, killing squeakers, eating, going for walks, hanging out with the humans, eating. She loves it ALL!

And she would love to have a forever home to spend the rest of her life in. Snickers deserves a family who adores her the same way she adores the little things in life. ❤️

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS 🏡❤️

12-year-old Ms. Pickles has found safety and Sanctuary with Karen!

Karen is a newer Young at Heart volunteer, and y'know what we say about our volunteers, right? They truly are the heart of our organization. They show up for senior pets in so many amazing ways. Karen is no different; she's a shining example of a Young at Heart volunteer. She has been nothing but eager and excited to make a difference, so when she reached out about becoming a foster home, we were delighted to support her through this new journey.

And really, Karen's openness couldn't have come at a better time. 12-year-old Ms. Pickles had been diagnosed with oral malignant melanoma, instantly qualifying her for our Sanctuary Program. While we committed to providing Ms. Pickles with the necessary medical care for the rest of her life, we also started the search for a true, loving home that she could spend out her remaining time in.

Karen and Ms. Pickles are a wonderful match! Ms. Pickles settled into Karen's home like she had always been there, and Karen absolutely loves having her company. She says that with Ms. Pickles around each day is better than the last. 🥹 Ms. Pickles has even started to follow Karen around everywhere, officially marking her as "mama." 😭 Best yet, the two lovely ladies got to spend their first Christmas together this year!

We are so happy to see Ms. Pickles receiving the love, comfort, and care she deserves in the twilight of her life. And we are so honored we get to support her and Karen through this journey. Thank you, Karen, for welcoming a Sanctuary senior into your heart and home! 😍 You're the best!

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS 🏡❤️🎄

It is with an immeasurable joy that we share the news of 13-year-old brothers, Gordon and Tommy, finding their way home after THREE long years with Young at Heart!

Ruthann and Ron are long-time senior pet supporters and previous adopters, having most recently brought YAH alum Wesley home in December of 2022. They gave him such an incredible life in their time together, pouring their everything into loving him. You simply can't ask for better, more patient or understanding old dog parents.

So when Ruthann and Ron reached out with interest in bonded brothers, Gordon and Tommy, it should come as no surprise that we all nearly jumped for joy. Nothing was set in stone at the time, but we knew how dedicated Ruthann and Ron are to their pups. Even the smallest chance of Gordon and Tommy experiencing that kind of dedication was worth celebrating. But we also knew in our hearts, there was definitely more than a small chance...

If anyone was going to be the right family for our beloved boys, it was going to be kind-hearted folks exactly like Ruthann and Ron. And we were right!

Gordon and Tommy were both eagerly welcomed into the arms, hearts, and home of Ruthann and Ron just before the holidays! They already had their own stockings hung up by the chimney with care, and their sweet grey faces adorned the tree. And on Christmas morning, the boys woke up in a warm house, unwrapped their presents, and spent the day enjoying the greatest gift of all - family. ❤️

The boys are so very loved and are receiving the best care with Ruthann and Ron, who both have the patience of saints and an unwavering commitment to making it all work for Tommy and Gordon! They tell us how grateful they are that we’ve trusted them to be the boys' forever home, but really, we're just so grateful the boys have landed in the perfect place.

Thank you, Ruthann and Ron, for giving Gordon and Tommy the chance they deserved. 🥰 Be good, boys, and make sure to show your new family lots of love!

Dear friends,

In the height of the holiday season, I wanted to step back and take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible difference you are making in the lives of the senior animals we rescue. Your kindness has brought hope, healing, and happiness to so many older dogs and cats who are now safe and loved, and we couldn’t be more grateful for you.

Take the story of Hawkeye and Radar. These sweet pups found themselves in need of rescue after both of their beloved guardians passed away. They were nervous, confused, and scared, facing the loss of everything they knew. But through it all, they had each other, and their bond was undeniable. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to bring them into our care, where they slowly began to trust again. Today, both are thriving in a foster home, surrounded by love and warmth as they await a forever family. They’ve been given a second chance to live out their golden years with the comfort and security they deserve, and it's all because of you.

Through your generosity, you are providing more than just four walls and a fresh meal — you’re offering comfort, safety, and the chance to experience love in their later years. Every senior pet we rescue is given the opportunity to start fresh, and that’s a gift that will last a lifetime.

As we celebrate the season of giving and look forward to the new year, I invite you to continue being a part of this life-changing work by making a special holiday gift. Your contribution helps more animals like Hawkeye and Radar find the care, warmth, and love they deserve. Plus, your gift will be matched thanks to a kind friend of Young at Heart!

Thank you for being a vital part of senior pets' second chances. Wishing you and your loved ones a warm and joyful holiday season!

With deepest gratitude,

❣️ ADOPTED & LOVED ❣️

7-year-old Licorice is home for the holidays with new paw-rents, Brenda and Rich!

Brenda and Rich were the very first application to come in for Licorice, probably less than an hour after we posted about his rescue on social media. They were so patient and understanding as they waited through the vetting process. And when Licorice was finally ready for a meet-n-greet with them, they were immediately smitten with him. 🥰 It's hard not to be!

Licorice is a big foodie, as are Brenda and Rich. He's going to adore all the decadent scents coming from the kitchen. Licorice also LOVES to be spoiled and get constant belly rubs, and well, Brenda and Rich LOVE to spoil their dogs and give them whatever they could ever want! Sounds like a perfect match to us.

We are so excited for Licorice, Brenda, and Rich, who all get to spend this wonderful holiday season together. ❤️ Thank you for adopting an older pet!

12-year-old Lucky serving some seriously sassy side-eye this morning. 😒🤭

We are currently trying to raise some much-needed funds for TWO orthopedic surgeries for the sweet and occasionally sassy Lucky. This chunky Beagle boy recently ruptured cruciate ligaments in BOTH of his hind legs. 😬 In order to give him the comfort he deserves in his golden years, we need your help and kind hearts!

Surgery for each knee is expected be around $3,200, so we are looking at $6,400 total. But that price quote doesn't cover the possibility of extra repairs once the doc gets inside ands sees the true damage.

Thanks to your incredible kindness, we have already raised $1,275 for Lucky's surgeries! There is no denying that's an amazing feat, but even with our generous matching gift challenge going on, we're still a few hundred short of just ONE repair procedure for sweet Lucky.

So in this season's spirit of giving, we ask you - are you able to give Lucky a second chance at true comfort in his golden years? ❤️

ALL donations made now through the end of the year (12/31) will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar by a very generous friend of Young at Heart, making your impact bigger and better for a senior pet who needs it most, just like Lucky.

You can choose to give right here on FB!
OR, you can also give...

→ Venmo:
→ PayPal: [email protected]

📬 Checks can be made out to Young at Heart and sent to 4301 S IL Route 47, Woodstock, IL 60098. Make sure to add "Lucky" in the memo! (Envelopes must be postmarked by 12/31 to qualify for the match 🙂)

Brave, 8-year-old Alley decided it was a good night for some R&R in front of the TV with her Sanctuary Foster family. Sweet girl is loving the warm glow of the tree. 🎄

What holiday movie should she watch next?

Alley is both FIV and FeLV positive, which compromises her immune system and makes it unsafe for her to live with other kitties, qualifying her for our Sanctuary Program. She gets to live out the rest of her life in a cozy home she can call hers - with a family who loves her - while Young at Heart provides her with the veterinary care she needs. ❤️

Darling, little Lulu is one step closer to a forever home! 💕 She was rescued a couple weeks ago, and while we still have a lot to learn about this old gal, she is certified cootie-free and has been given the go ahead to join our community of senior pups.

14-year-old Lulu met all the other "Littles" who will become her temporary family while she awaits her forever one. She is a bit leery about the other dogs right now, but she is oh so sweet with them (and the humans) despite her nerves. With some time and a safe space of her own to decompress in, we know she will soon start to feel truly comfortable.

Lulu is still finishing up some of her veterinary care, so she is not ready for adoption just yet. We will keep y'all updated.

Thank you for allowing us to give Lulu a second chance to enjoy her golden years to the fullest. 😍 This teeny beauty queen is so deserving of a happy and cozy retirement, and this is just the beginning for her!

Our Story

In a perfect world, every senior pet would spend its twilight years surrounded by a loving family. But sadly, senior pets that end up in shelters often do not get that chance.

Young At Heart™ is a rescue and safe haven for senior dogs & cats in Northern Illinois founded in 2005. Young at Heart’s new adoption center & sanctuary just for senior pets opened in September 2019 in Woodstock, IL. Young at Heart's mission is to provide senior dogs and cats with a safe haven to ensure they live with comfort, compassion, and companionship in their golden years. We find loving homes for adoptable senior pets and offer a peaceful sanctuary life for those that are less adoptable. With your support, Young at Heart™ gives older dogs and cats another chance to enjoy the twilight of their lives through rescue, foster, adoption and sanctuary.

Young at Heart™ believes that Love Has No Age Limit™ and that senior pets deserve to enjoy their golden years wrapped in the love, safety, and comfort of a loving family.
