Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary

Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary "A forever home for those in need." Each and every day I am looking for ways to expand to help more animals and people.

It started out with a few ducks (hence the farm name) and now we have chickens, goats and horses along with cats, dogs and bunnies. I am fortunate enough to have a number of our horses sponsored by some of our great supporters. This helps me continue to do what I do for animals. I don't like labels, but if necessary I'd say this is a sanctuary. There are too many animals and people out there that

need help and I want to do what I can. This is a safe place that is what matters. I've always loved helping animals and people and am slowly incorporating the two. About half of the animals we currently have are rescued animals that have come here to get/be healthy, loved and safe. My thoughts are NEVER give up until you've tried everything possible. Everyone and everything deserves a shot at a GREAT life! Life isn't a contest of who can have the most money or items, its about what you do with your time.

Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow, then the polar vortex comes. They are predicting it will feel like the negatives this coming weeks.

Some troughs aren’t near outlets to allow us to use heaters. So we are trying something new. Matt had these awesome insulated blankets so we wrapped a few troughs. Hopefully this keeps the freezing to a minimum. Of course we will be checking troughs often and filling with warm water when needed.

Tomorrow we will add an extra layer to a few of the golden oldies to ensure they stay warm. We always are sure to have plenty of hay available as well. Some of our dentally challenged horses will get chopped hay to make sure they are warm and have full belly’s.

Stay warm friends. Feel free to update us on the weather where you are.

Yesterday i received this from my brother.
The flag was flown for our farm at every base he was stationed the past year.

Not only am I so proud of his service, I am honored he thought of us and flew this flag for us.

Stewy and I would like to send out a very special thank you.
Last night we received a very generous donation from Wendy and her husband. Wendy’s sister Tracey is the person who found Stewy when he had been abandoned for a long time. Past horses Charlie and Shine were also both from Tracey.

Their whole family has always been supportive of whatever do.

This donation will do a lot. It also means for a bit I can breathe and not have to use my personal funds for the sanctuary. Something I have been doing a lot of.

Unfortunately there has been a rise in rescues closing their doors to lack of funds. You can imagine it takes a lot to care for horses. Especially special needs horses.

If you believe in what we do and are able please consider making a tax deductible donation to the sanctuary. We will be more than happy to provide a receipt. There’s still time before the year ends.

Thank you all for your support. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you to Wendy and her husband.

Poo happens! A lot.

We are looking for a weekly volunteer to assist with picking up poo in the pasture. We have plenty of wheelbarrows, plenty of poo forks and nice flat ground with easy access to where it gets dumped. Heck, we will even dump the wheelbarrow when you finish!

Looking for 1 day a week. Only 1-2hrs total a week. We’d prefer it be during feeding time since we will be right there. Can be morning, mid day or evening. Totally flexible.

Great for community service hours. Or just the chance to be around horses.

You don’t have to do every week. We can rotate people.

If this is something that “speaks” to you then get in touch with us.

We had a wonderful turn out yesterday for Cocoa and Cookies!

Thank you all for attending.
Thank you to our vendors with your wares.
Thank you to my dear friend Allen, who stepped up at the last minute and transformed into Santa! Thankfully Santa was able to take time away from the Island to be with us yesterday.
Thank you to my daughters who were there for me as always.
Thank you to my bonus granddaughters who helped, including my little Elf.
Thank you to my sweet friends for running the check in table.
Thank you to my friend for sending me new friends that took awesome photos.
And lastly, thank you to Matt, For…..everything you do for myself, my family and my horses.

This was possible because all of you!

As soon I receive the photos from the photographer I will get into contact with those on the list.

P.S. word has it that Santa rode off into the sunset back to the beach.
