Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary

Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary "A forever home for those in need." Each and every day I am looking for ways to expand to help more animals and people.
(5)

It started out with a few ducks (hence the farm name) and now we have chickens, goats and horses along with cats, dogs and bunnies. I am fortunate enough to have a number of our horses sponsored by some of our great supporters. This helps me continue to do what I do for animals. I don't like labels, but if necessary I'd say this is a sanctuary. There are too many animals and people out there that

need help and I want to do what I can. This is a safe place that is what matters. I've always loved helping animals and people and am slowly incorporating the two. About half of the animals we currently have are rescued animals that have come here to get/be healthy, loved and safe. My thoughts are NEVER give up until you've tried everything possible. Everyone and everything deserves a shot at a GREAT life! Life isn't a contest of who can have the most money or items, its about what you do with your time.

December - today.
Sunny has come a long way. Another case of “age is just a number.” This sweet man is approx 30 years old. In most cases altering the diet and adding meals can make a HUGE difference. It did in Sunny’s case.

Farrier Friday!
All of the big horses had their feet done today.
A healthy hoof is VERY crucial when it comes to caring for horses. We are thankful to have Nick as our farrier. He’s taken care of our horse’s feet for many years now.

While Chloe had her feet trimmed Stewy wanted to be extra lovey to Nick.

If you would like to sponsor a trim let us know. All donations are tax deductible. Our PayPal is [email protected]

Thank you to my awesome son-in-law, Dave for redesigning our website. We had outgrown our old platform and he offered to create something new. Many thanks to Jen for doing our old website all these years. Websites are definitely not my thing.

We're still looking for sponsors, especially for Marsy. Don't forget the first person to step up to be her monthly sponsor gets a free farm tour if you're local or a FaceTime tour if you're not.

!!!HAY!!!

Marsy wanted to remind everyone that she and most of her friends at the sanctuary are still looking for monthly sponsors. It gets very expensive covering all the costs out of my own pocket, that's where we need the help of our amazing supporters like you. Marsy's meds alone cost about $160+ a month for her COPD.

Please consider becoming a monthly sponsor or making a donation (remember it's tax deductible). Thank you to those that are already sponsoring a horse, we couldn't do this without your help.

The first person to step up and become marsy's monthly sponsor will receive a farm tour for up to 5 people, up to an hour at a pre-scheduled date and time or if you're not local a 15-20 minute face-time tour so you can meet all the horses.

“Here’s your sign!” Actually…..here’s our sign and I LOVE it!

A HUGE thanks to Dylan (my son-in-law) and his friend for making this super awesome farm sign! He was even able to incorporate our logo.

We still need to install a top beam, mulch around the base and add lights. But it’s up and it couldn’t be more perfect! Thank you to Matt and the boys for your hard work installing the sign today.

Thank you to our monthly sponsors:
Thank you to the Duffy family for sponsoring Dennis.
Thank you to Barbara for sponsoring Snickers.
Thank you to Diane for sponsoring Stewy.

Thank you to Lin for sending TSC gift cards. They will be used to get grain.

We couldn’t do what we do without our sponsors. We actually have many other horses that are in need of sponsors. Unfortunately I recently had to turn away horses needing our sanctuary. Until we get more horses sponsored i cannot take on anymore new cases. If you are interested in sponsoring a horse let us know. Sponsorships and donations are all tax deductible as we are a registered nonprofit.

(Doodles and Buddy enjoyed playtime during the cool temps in the morning.)

HOT is the word of the day.
The horses are very thankful for their shelters and fans today.

You might notice Earl is hanging out with his new friend Julius. Julius is our newest boarder. He belongs to Arica who is our other boarder, Arinas Mom. Arica rescued Julius back in the winter. After he finished his QT he came here to live with his sister. Julius had severe food aggression when he arrived. It took Taylor and I both to feed him. After lots of work and patience he’s completely overcome that issue. He’s such a sweetheart and we love having him as part of the boarder family.

We are very thankful for our boarders. What I make goes right into covering the needs of the sanctuary horses. It’s a win win!

The things we do for horses……

Here in MD we are in for a heatwave. We have been hanging extra fans to ensure the seniors and health issue horses stay comfy. Some horses aren’t able to sweat. Some horses just do not tolerate the heat well. I can relate.

So, while Taylor was at work this morning I figure I can hang Stewys extra fan on my own. No problem! Now remember…..I had major surgery earlier this year. I am fully cleared but my body feels several years older. I must have time traveled during surgery. Anyway…..I hung Stews fan. Easy peasy. Then I even managed to squeeze myself between the run ins and fence to hang the plugs so they were out of the weather. I am quite proud that I was able to squeeze myself AND the ladder in a gap less than a foot wide. I gather all my tools but decided to get proof of getting that extra fan hung. Tool bag in my left hand and phone in my right I notice the sunshade is in the way of my proof taking. So, I use my left hand to raise the shade. Problem is I had the tool bag in hand and my head was there……tool bag to the face! Hey, we can’t win them all I guess.

Gooood morning!
We are getting ready for a heatwave this week. Today we will finish hanging fans in the run ins so the horses stay cool.

It’s also farrier day today. All of the big horses will have their feet trimmed. “No hoof, no horse!”

I want to thank those that donated in honor of my birthday;
Chemaine
Staci
Jeanette
Lin
You guys are awesome!

Thank you to our monthly sponsors as well;
Diane, Stewys sponsor
Barbara, Snickers sponsor

If you would like to sponsor a horse please let us know. We really need to get the other horses sponsored.

I love that we are able to help horses (and other animals) as well as educate and share the farm with family, friends/all of you. I feel it’s especially important for kids to be exposed to all kinds of things in life. This is another reason why we are expanding what we do here. We are opening the farm for birthday party’s, events and gatherings. If you are interested in having an event here please reach out. There’s even a rumor we will have a moon bounce to include in party packages.

(Shown are some of the grandkids enjoying the farm.)
