Our 2024 Derby National Run came to an end after the sixth series. While we would have loved to make it to the end, it is quite an accomplishment to just qualify and then make it that far. We were able to compete against the best young dogs from around the United States.

Congratulations to Bustin Water’s Earn His Keep (Earnie) and his owner Bob Mattlin. Thank you Bob for allowing us to train and handle such an amazing young dog!

We had a good weekend at the Chippewa Valley Fall Field Trial.

In the Qualifying our dogs earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as the Reserve Jam.

1st Place - Aspen Creek’s Sunny Sun of a Doge (Doge) MH QA2. Handled and owned by Weston Bison. This win gave Doge his QA2 title.

2nd Place - King’s Come on Back Boomerang (Boomer) JH. Owned by Andy King, handled by Jerry Petraitis.

3rd Place - Grassypond’s Semper Fi (Zeke). Owned by Deb Porter, handled by Jerry Petraitis.

Reserve Jam - Dairyland’s Chitter Chatter (Gabbi). Owned by Kyle Hensen and Lee Bilke, handled by Jerry Petraitis.

In the derby, Bustin Water’s Earn his Keep (Earnie) earned 4th place. Earnie is owned by Bob Mattlin and was handled by Jerry Petraitis.

This placement qualified Earnie for the Derby National!

Besides the past weekend at the Chippewa Valley Field Trial, we have had some other recent placements from our dogs.

Weston and Doge took third place at the Blackhawk Retriever Club September Owner/Handler Qualifying.

Dairyland’s Hips don’t Lie (Shakira) earned a jam in the Qualifying at both the Watopa Fall Field Trial and the Hennepin County Fall Field Trial. Shakira is owned by Kyle Hensen and Lee Bilke, handled by Jerry.

Earnie earned the Reserve Jam in the derby at the Hennepin County Fall Field Trial.

It’s been a busy last few weeks. Thank you to all the clubs and workers that put these trials on!

Duluth Retriever Club Fall Field Trial Results

Dairyland’s Hips Don’t Lie (Shakira),owned by Kyle Hensen and Lee Bilke, earned 4th place in the Qualifying.

King’s Come on Back Boomerang (Boomer), owned by Andy King, earned Reserve Jam in the Qualifying.

Bustin Water’s Earn his Keep (Earnie), owned by Bob Mattlin, earned a jam in the Derby.

All dogs handled by Jerry Petraitis.

Aspen Creek has three new Master Hunters!

Our assistant trainer Weston Bison has been busy over the last month running our Master dogs, and three dogs earned their Master Hunter title.

Wilson Creek’s Mikey (Mikey) went 6 for 7 to earn his Master Hunter Title. Mikey is owned by Tim Mittlestadt.

3X-GMPR Royal King of Northstar QA2 (Roy) went 6 for 7 to earn his Master Hunter Title. Roy is owned by Derrick Kunsman.

Aspen Creek’s Sunny Sun of a Doge (Doge) went 6 for 7 to earn his Master Title. Doge is owned by Weston Bison.

Blackhawk Ridge’s Ranch Hand (Rip) earned his first Master Hunter pass in his first ever event. Rip is owned by Sean Downey.

Congratulations to Dairyland’s Chitter Chatter (Gabbi) on her third place finish in the Qualifying at the Blackhawk Retriever Club’s August Field Trial. This is Gabbi’s second placement in a row.

Congratulations to Dairyland’s Hips Don’t Lie (Shakira) on her Jam in the same event.

Both dogs are owned by Kyle Hensen (Dairyland Retrievers) and Lee Bilke. Both dogs were handled by Jerry Petraitis.

Congratulations to a couple of our clients on recent strong finishes!

Vince Weik earned a second place with his dog Ol’ Coot’s Buddy (Buddy) at the Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club Qualifying on July 26th. This made Buddy Qualified All Age.

Lee Bilke took third place with Dairyland’s Hips Don’t Lie (Shakira) at the Wisconsin Amateur Field Trial Club Owner/Handler Summer Qualifying. Shakira is owned by Kyle Hensen and Lee Bilke.

Aspen Creek had a busy weekend with dogs running at the Chippewa Valley Retriever Club Summer Derby/Qualifying and the Lacrosse Amateur Retriever Club Hunting Test.

At the Chippewa Valley Derby/Qualifying, Dairyland’s Chitter Chatter (Gabbi) took second place in the Qualifying, making her Qualified All Age. Gabbi is owned by Kyle Hensen and Lee Bilke. In the Derby, Bustin Water’s Earn His Keep (Earnie) took third place. Earnie is owned by Bob Mattlin. Both dogs were handled by Jerry Petraitis.

At the Lacrosse Amateur Retriever Club Hunting Test, 3X GMPR Blackhawk’s Royal King of Northstar QA2 (Roy) and Wilson Creek’s Mikey (Mikey) each earned a master pass. Roy is owned by Derrick Kunsman and Mikey is owned by Tim Mittlesteadt. Purdy’s Rave N Beyond (Ravin) earned a senior pass. Ravin is owned by Curtis and Linda Weipert. The dogs at the hunting test were handled by Weston Bison.

Our assistant trainer Weston Bison had a great fall competing with his personal dog Aspen Creek’s Sunny Sun of a Doge, call name Doge. Weston and Doge ran six events and here are the results:

We had a fun weekend at the Chippewa Valley Retriever Club Summer Derby/Qualifying!

3XGMPR Blackhawk’s Royal King of Northstar (Roy) took first place in the Qualifying. This was Roy’s second win of the season mqking him QA2! Roy is owned by Derrick Kunsman.

Dairyland’s Chitter Chatter (Gabby) took third place in the Qualifying. This was Gabby’s second Qualifying and had a very nice showing. Gabby is owned by Kyle Hensen.

In the derby, Dairyland’s Hips Don’t Lie (Shakira) finished with a jam. This was Shakira’s first derby. She is owned by Kyle Hensen.

Congratulations to Dairyland’s Thin Blue Line QAA MH HRCH (SWAT) for taking 4th Place at the Hinkley Retriever Club’s Summer Qualifying. SWAT is owned by Kyle Hensen and was handled by Jerry Petraitis.

This was our last trial with SWAT, as he will now be moving on to All Age training and competition with Jason Baker. It was our pleasure having SWAT here in training for the last few years, and are excited to see what he can do at the All Age level. Thank you to Kyle for trusting us with SWAT for his basics and transition work.

We had another good weekend at the Watopa Retriever Club Spring Field Trial. 3X-GMPR Blackhawk’s Royal King of Northstar (Roy) took home first place in the qualifying and is now Qualified All Age! Big congrats to owner Derrick Kunsman! To follow up his second place earned last weekend, Harvest Moon’s Blizzard of Oz (Ozzie) took third place this weekend! That’s a second and third in his first two qualifyings. Big congrats to Ozzie’s owner Mark Ekeroth! Both dogs handled by Jerry Petraitis.

We had a good start to the Spring/Summer field trial season at the Central Minnesota Retriever Club Spring Field Trial. In his first Qualifying, Harvest Moon’s Blizzard of Oz (Ozzie) took second place. Ozzie is owned by Mark Ekeroth. Also in the qualifying, 3X-GMPR Blackhawk’s Royal King of Northstar (Roy) took Reserve Jam. Roy is owned by Derrick Kunsman. Both dogs handled by Jerry Petraitis.
