Had a wonderful first puppy class in our new space!

My dog Annie had to have surgery yesterday.

These are some tips I’ve learned to help your dog be more comfortable after surgery.

1. Make a comfortable bed for your dog and just chill out next to them. Dogs do take comfort if you are nearby when they are in pain.

2. Play calming music. My dog was in pain this morning which was causing her to get agitated, so I turned on some soft, instrumental music & she soon relaxed and went to sleep.

3. Give your pup watermelon (the minis are perfect and they are definitely a treat for your dog). This helps hydrate them because when your dog is dealing with discomfort, it can cause them to not want to drink as much.

4. If they are not interested in their dog food, make them some scrambled eggs and I’m sure that like Annie they will lap it up.

Puppy Next Level Group Class

This class is a great opportunity to elevate your dog’s learning and take them to the next level!

We will be advancing the behaviors taught in our first puppy class. We will be working on “leave it,” “drop,” “wait,” polite greetings & adding a new behavior, “watch me,” loose leash walking, and “recall.

This class is 3 weeks and will begin next Wednesday at 7:05 pm.

***New Class***

Puppy Socialization.

Did you know that the key socialization window for your pup is 8 to 16 weeks? Often, if a dog is not socialized during this time, they may develop hesitant or fearful behavior with other dogs and people. In this session, it is all about allowing your pup to play with other dogs their age in a safe and fun environment.

I am really excited about these sessions, and the cost is ONLY $15 for a 30-minute playtime.

The first session will be on Saturday, January 18, at 10am. Sign-up is required.

Are you thinking of getting a puppy for Christmas or deciding to rescue a dog from a local shelter? That’s awesome, but here are some things you need to consider.

When looking for different breeds of dog, it’s important to not just look at the outside appearance of a dog, but all the things that the dog requires.

Dogs need plenty of exercise - THIS IS A BIG ONE. Along with physical exercise, their mental stimulation is also just as important. Shedding level, social level, are they a great family dog or tend to connect well with one or two people are also valuable things to consider. Also note that your new pup will need to be trained to some extent whether that’s a few basic behaviors or more in-depth training.

ALL dogs need love and attention and if you do not have the time currently maybe wait untill you have the time to devote to that pup. Remember, dogs are a lot of work and require a lot of much-needed attention.

And always, always, always, choose a reputable breeder if deciding to buy a puppy!
