Happy Halloween! 🎃

This handsome pup is Wickham. He is a Large mixed breed puppy. Unfortunately the previous rescue does not know what mom and dad looked like. He will mature around 70 pounds when fully grown. He is a shy but active puppy and would do best in a home with older children. Wickham will come out of his shell faster if there is an older dog to show him the ropes. Like any puppy Wickham will need training. This includes manners, leash, and potty training.

Wickham's adoption fee is $150. This includes: Bordetella Vaccine, DHPP Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, Microchip, Flea Treatment, Dewormer & Spay/Neuter Surgery!

🧹🧼🧽🫧It’s time for our shelter deep clean to prepare for winter (and to prep for construction of our new surgery center in the winter/spring!). Baxter has been with us for a long time. We noticed he has some environmental allergies. You can see that he was struggling with some hair loss in the first four photos. The WCHS team has been working hard to find the right food, correct allergy medication, and reduce his stress levels by taking him on outings. And just LOOK at the final 2 photos! Baxter has his hair back. ❤️

We will share current product information with potential adopters and it is recommended that his new family follows up with their vet to talk about allergy testing.

This senior boy is feeling good and ready to find a HOME!

He loves people and attention but is very dog selective. He will need to be the only pet in the home. He would make a great companion for someone that is looking for a walking buddy. He is a smart boy and knows ALL the tricks: Sit, shake, lay down, speak, "whisper", sit pretty, and working on roll over. Baxter is a smaller Lab mix and weighs in around 50 pounds. Baxter is potty trained and walks well on a leash. He will do best in a home with teens or adults only. He is a very sweet dog that can't wait for a family of his own, come meet Baxter today!

Baxter's adoption fee is only $75. This includes: Bordetella Vaccine, DHPP Vaccine, Microchip, Flea Treatment, Dewormer & Spay/Neuter Surgery. As well as age appropriate Heartworm Testing & Rabies Vaccine! www.wchs.org/adopt

We are happy to discuss fostering to adopt Baxter! Just make a note of that on your application or email [email protected].

Can’t adopt or foster? Baxter would love to socialize with you at the shelter and go for a walk! Apply to volunteer today: www.wchs.org/volunteer

Kitty Poo Club is one of our largest supporters. They supply the majority of the litter that we use here at the shelter. A couple times a month, they donate large amounts of litter for our use saving us a ton of money.

They have always been prompt in responding and helping to meet our needs. ❤️❤️

Kitty Poo Club:

"Less time cleaning, more time together.
..then we had our "ah-ha moment". We realized that we could make a product that wouldn't be just a box. It would be an all-in-one litter solution. It was truly our most “out-of-the-box” idea yet! Today, we are helping make tens of thousands of cat owners' lives easier with the Kitty Poo Club! And we are making their furry friends happier, too!

Get a brand new recyclable litter box & bag of litter delivered to you every month, with free shipping."

🐾Donor shoutout - Thank you, Kitty Poo Club! They are located right here in Wooster!🐾

🐾WCHS Wednesday🐾

Learn more about WCHS and our operations every Wednesday!

Why do you only accept sick and injured animals at certain times?

While we would love to help every animal, our facility is only so big, and when all of the kennels and cages are filled, there is nowhere else for us to house animals. We make special provisions for sick and injured animals during their time of need so that we can get them some help and so they do not suffer.

We will utilize foster homes when possible. If we crowd the animals in the shelter, it causes undue stress, which can and will cause illness (especially in cats). Our animals need to be healthy to be adopted, so it is best for our animals that we limit intake when our facility is full. If you are able, sign up to be a foster home to help expand our abilities.

Capacity is often used as a shortened term for “Capacity for Care'' which is a term used in the shelter environment to describe meeting the needs of every animal admitted to a shelter, regardless of how they came in, when they came in, their age, health status, or personality. WCHS’s capacity for care is 86 cats. WCHS tends to be above capacity during the warmer months of the year, averaging between 120-150 cats in our care during that time. We combat this by getting as many cats into foster care as possible or by working with other rescues to meet mutual needs.

We could not help as many animals as we do without our vast network of volunteers, fosters, and rescues.

🌟 The Benefits of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) 🌟

Did you know that Trap-Neuter-Return is a humane approach to managing feral cat populations? By spaying and neutering cats, TNR helps control the population, improve their health, and reduce nuisance behaviors. It's a win-win for our community and our furry friends!

Thanks to our amazing community, WCHS successfully conducts two TNR events each year. We're always looking for business sponsorships to help make these events even more successful! If you're interested in supporting this vital work, please message us to inquire more.

To donate to this and other projects at our nonprofit shelter, visit www.wchs.org/howtohelp. Together, we can make a difference for the cats in our community! 🐾❤️

Animal Safety Tips for October

As October rolls around, it brings with it a host of seasonal changes and celebrations. Here are some important safety tips to ensure the well-being of your pets during this time:

1. Keep pets indoors during Halloween: With trick-or-treaters around, it's best to keep your pets inside to avoid stress and potential escape. The noise and unfamiliar costumes can be frightening for them.

2. Beware of toxic treats: Chocolate, candies, and sweets can be harmful to pets. Make sure that candy is stored out of reach and educate children about not sharing treats with pets.

3. Secure decorations: Halloween decorations, such as candles, pumpkins, and wires, can pose hazards. Keep candles out of reach to prevent fires, and ensure that decorations do not have small parts that pets could swallow.

4. Choose pet-friendly costumes: If you plan to dress your pet up, ensure that the costume is comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement, vision, or breathing. Avoid costumes with small parts that could be chewed off and ingested.

5. Check identification: Make sure your pets have proper identification. Collars with tags and microchips can help reunite you with your pets if they get lost.

6. Watch for seasonal plants: Be cautious with fall plants and decorations like chrysanthemums, which can be toxic to pets. Keep all potentially harmful plants out of reach.

7. Monitor outdoor activities: As temperatures drop, be mindful of your pet's tolerance to the cold. Limit outdoor time, especially for small or short-haired breeds, and provide a warm place for them to curl up.

8. Fireworks awareness: If your community celebrates Halloween with fireworks, be aware that loud noises can scare pets. Create a safe space for them to retreat to during these events.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your pets stay safe and happy throughout October. Enjoy the season with your furry friends!
