Happy Spring everyone! π·
Here at Brown Dog Dahlias, the garden suffered a terrible blow today when I discovered most all of the tuber inventory froze, despite careful wrapping and storage. We lost about 70 varieties. We saved about 10...I hope.
This winter was very cold, and dahlia tubers are delicate. It happens to the best of us, but not usually to this extent.
A few people have kindly asked how to donate a new tuber to help us get back on our feet. π± So I will include information here:
The easiest way is to venmo the garden funds for a new tuber purchase. A typical tuber (which grows into one flowering plant) costs an average of about $8-12.
We only buy tubers from small, independent growers in the U.S. - both to support their gardens, and to restrict the spread of disease from large European sellers.
If you prefer to choose your own favorite, you can see lists of these small sellers on sites such as dahliaaddict.com!
π₯° Thank you SO much to anyone who considers this but please don't feel obligated! π₯°
We will be back this summer - just a little smaller. βΊοΈ Thank you for all your support and 'likes' over the past few years!
