As a private, non-profit organization that does not receive any county, state, or federal funding, WARL relies heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers. The facility annually assists over 2500 cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies in the communities surrounding Worcester MA. Programs and services include lost and found, boarding, adoptions, low-cost spay/neuter & vaccine clinics, educational

programs, foster and volunteer opportunities. Now the largest animal shelter in Central Massachusetts, WARL is a limited intake shelter, accepting pets only when enough kennel space is available; it does not believe in time or space limits for adoptable pets, and uses every resource available to place each one.

As the holidays approach, the WARL shelter pets are gearing up to create some original artwork that will be made available for online bidding, just in time for holiday gifting. The mutts, meows, and critters would love our artist friends and followers to join them in this FUNdraising initiative.

We are accepting original artwork by artists of all ages and skill levels. There are no requirements regarding size, medium, or number of pieces. Though the focus will be animal-related art, we welcome art that does not feature animals, as well. If you would like to use one of our shelter pets as a subject, we would be thrilled!

We are asking pieces be turned into WARL by November 22nd. If you need to ship the item, please mail to Worcester Animal Rescue League, Attn: Kristin, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.

Adoptable Peter is spreading the word that the shelter is buzzing with activity this week. We’ve had happy tail adoptions but we also have new mouths to feed. As always, the need for dog food donations is needed and appreciated!

We like to keep our dogs on a consistent diet so we are asking for Purina Dog Chow (green bag) or Purina One (red bag) dry and wet dog food. Drop off donations are welcome every day between 8-5. Our Amazon and Chewy wish lists make it easy to send food and supplies right to the shelter. Click the links below to order.

Our fun-loving boy Peter is also waiting for a family to call his own. Who wouldn’t want to be greeted by this handsome face and those adorable ears every day?! Everyone LOVES Clifford, our big red dog! Last week, Clifford went on a big adventure with our Director, Kristin. First, he was featured on the Ray Villeda Boston 25 segment “Furever Friday’s” where he showed everyone why he is a WARL staff and volunteer favorite. The Boston 25 News team all commented on what a smart and handsome boy he is. Next up, Clifford visited our other wonderful friends at Polkadog in Dedham. The Polkadog gals gave him lots of his favorite snacks and Kristin spoiled him with extra treats and some new toys!

Clifford greeted all the new people he met that day with tail wags and paw shakes. He’s the ultimate good boy who deserves the ultimate good home!

My friends call me Ollie, but you can call me your new best friend! My personality is a lot like my hair; goofy, wild and one of a kind! As you can see from my pictures, I’m a very active Jack Russel Mix who needs a lot of exercise… and the occasional car ride to Starbucks for my Puppachinos 🙂. I do frequently get the “zoomies”, so I would prefer living in an adult only home with experienced dog owners who can handle my crazy side. I would also love to be the only dog in the house to get all your attention and belly rubs. Going to the vet and meeting new people has been difficult for me, but I’ve been working hard to change for the better! It may take a few visits and yummy chicken for me to warm up to you, but I promise you it will be worth it! Adoptable Princess 👑

Princess is a wonderful girl with so many amazing attributes! She is an absolute lovebug, gentle sweet and kind. She loves her daily walks and snuggling on the couch with her pillow and warm blankets. She is extremely smart and so willing to learn. She bonds quickly and soon looks to her people for direction. She is also dog friendly with proper introduction, but a home without cats is a must. Princess is housetrained and well behaved when left alone. She is content to rest on the couch and promises to always greet you happily at the door upon your return. This lovely girl is well mannered, intuitive, inquisitive and extremely smart. She wants to be a part of your routine but also settles on the couch and can be snoring within minutes. She is not high energy and will be perfectly happy being a couch potato. Princess is completely deaf. She sleeps very sound and it is best to lightly pat her as to not startle her. Using positive training methods with high value treats while implementing hand signals works well with Princess. She is food and toy motivated and once you make eye contact, she is willing to learn and please. Meet Salsa 🔥

Salsa is a sweet girl who enjoys walks in the woods, a delicious dinner and a quiet night at home. She is sure to spice up your day and keep you company at night. Salsa is affectionate, intelligent and knows what she likes. She enjoys walks with calm friendly dogs, squeak toys, and a stuffed Kong are just a few of her favorite things. Salsa is the girl that will jump in your lap to snuggle and ask for belly rubs. This happens more readily if you are also a girl. She loves toys and playing in our fenced-in pen. Salsa is strong and currently prefers to walk you rather than the other way around. She responds well to positive reinforcement and practices leash walking with volunteers whenever possible. She is looking forward to going home with someone who will continue daily walks and leash training with her. Weighing eighty pounds, Salsa will have the most fun in a household with adults or older teens. If you are looking for a dog to take on a morning hike with you then spend the afternoon hanging on the couch, Salsa is your girl.
