Luna is a little girl that is out of a brindle belted mom and a black belted dad…she didn’t get the memo to have a strip….she is a pretty neat color though for being black, you can see some brindle colors popping out throughout her coat. Doesn’t her face just look like she follows you everywhere ?!…she does ! Don’t expect to walk away with out her right by your side. This girls sweet and easy going personality makes her one of my favorites.

〰️Let’s Talk BVD 〰️

▪️What is it? BVD stands for Bovine Viral Diarrhea The virus is very common and many herds are at risk for the infection.

▪️What is BVD PI? PI stands for Persistently infected, there is no cure for this and PI calves should be put down to prevent further infection.

▪️Why is it important to know if a calf/cow is infected? It is important to test every calf/cow you add to your herd before buying. BVD can cause issues and headaches in many ways. If you have a PI calf, that calf will shed the virus everyday in their p**p
laying out in the pasture , feeding areas, watering areas, etc. The virus can be spread to others, if you do not test and you have a PI calf and then sell it to someone else ,now you are putting their herd at risk. That calf will shed the virus in the new pasture and every other cow out there is exposed. Not only is this a major issue for calves but if a cow is BVD negative but bred and is exposed to the virus within the early stages of pregnancy you know have a risk of that cow having a PI calf. So you see why this can be an ongoing major issue for exposer.

▪️Doesn’t everybody test for BVD?
NO! majority of farms do not test for it and many don’t know what it is. That’s why it’s Important to have what you are purchasing tested before you get them transported to your place. Any reputable farm will not have an issue doing this for you.
Any of mine that are bought get tested before I buy them and If they do not want to do it …that’s a big 🚩 for me and I won’t purchase.

▪️How can I test? You can have your vet test for you or personally I like to keep test kits on hand all the time so
I can test anytime I need to and have results within 20 minutes. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing at home IDEXX testers https://www.pbsanimalhealth.com/snap-bvdv-antigen-test-kit/p/16708/
