After more than three years of dedicated service, we would like to announce that Zorro will be retiring from TxTRC. This sweet guy has been a wonderful therapy horse, and his kind nature and gentle spirit made him a favorite of many students and volunteers alike.

He will continue to be loved and cherished in this next chapter. He will live out his golden years in a big, beautiful pasture with his old best friend. While we will miss him dearly in our program, we celebrate all he has given and the lasting impact he has made.

Zorro will be leaving at the end of the month, so please say your goodbyes over the next couple of weeks and wish him the best on his new endeavor as a professional pasture puff!

A huge thank you to Wylie Preparatory Academy for sending out a great group of volunteers this morning! They sorted and cleaned brush buckets (sorry, Zorro, you no longer get to hoard four hoofpicks in your bucket), wiped down stall fronts, cleaned bits, and swept this big barn aisle. We are so grateful for our volunteers!

Did you know we spend about $1,200 to $1,500 every week on hay, grain, and bedding alone? Our emergency Winter Weather Fundraiser is underway and if you’re looking for a way to help, a donation of just $25 will buy a bale of hay for the herd (they go through several bales a day). Here are some other fun facts about how much it costs to feed the crew:

One bag of grain costs $40, and the horses go through a bag in just a couple of days.

Shavings cost about $7/bag, and each horse gets at least 4-5 bags a week.

Many of the horses also receive supplements or special medications that cost anywhere from $50-$200/month.

Our Painting with Ponies parties are always a blast, and you can buy your ticket now to our March 14th event! Purchasing your ticket now secures your seat at this fun event (they often sell out) *and* helps fund our program. You can even pre-purchase Pony Picassos! (if you've never attended a Painting with Ponies before, Pony Picassos are a fun experience where your favorite horse paints you a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that you get to take home along with your own painting that night).

Calling Team TxTRC!

As many of you know, the weather has been a real challenge lately. In the last 80 days alone, we have had to cancel 227 lessons due to inclement weather. This is an unprecedented amount of cancelations and has resulted in a significant loss of revenue. Today we are launching a Winter Weather Fundraiser to boost the program through this lean season. This weeklong campaign has a goal of raising $15,000. Please help us reach this goal!

Your tax-deductible donation will go directly toward supporting the program and will help us “weather the storm” until we can get back to our regular lesson schedule (there are sunny days ahead, and we can’t wait for them!).
