Ever wonder what “Fear Free” looks like? Zeus is demonstrating it beautifully! We try and make every patient happy and relaxed and minimize fear during their visit. Thanks to some Feliway, catnip, and silvervine, this kitty was as comfortable as could be! Look closely and you can even see him sling some drool 😊 #fearfree
It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you our loyal clinic cat, Patriot, crossed the rainbow bridge on Wednesday. If you don’t know his story, he showed up as an adult at Wylie Prep. They took him in, named him, loved and cared for him. In February 2020, he presented to us (for the second time) with an open wound. As he lived on the property, he was the protector of the school and never backed down from a fight.
This wound took longer than usual to heal, requiring 2 anesthetic procedures and radiographs. We offered to keep him over Spring Break since he wasn’t back to 100% and he wouldn’t be observed closely during that time.
Well, we all know that with spring break 2020 came COVID and the world shut down - including Wylie Prep. We offered to take over his care until school resumed and he became our unofficial mascot. We loved him deeply as our own.
When school was back in session, the leadership at Wylie Prep were concerned about how he would adapt to being an outdoor kitty again - we looked for a suitable home but ultimately we became the permanent solution. And he became the “clinic cat.” He is even featured on our website!
We suspect he was 13-15 years of age, had chronic kidney disease and underlying heart disease as well. He lived his best life which included outdoor leash walks as well as an outdoor mesh inclosure for the times he wanted to spend outdoors. He also laid on any keyboard that was in use and would even accompany you to the restroom should you be so lucky.
He was a little feisty but demanded love and attention. We lost him suddenly and are all grieving - our clinic is quiet without him.
Please enjoy a small sampling of the hundreds of pictures we’ve accumulated of him over the past 4 years 🐾🌈

Heartworm Awareness
It is Heartworm Awareness Month! Heartworms are deadly for cats and dogs. There is only one approved treatment for dogs, and NO approved treatment for cats. Make sure your pet is protected every month and tested yearly.
