Best Foot Forward K9 Training

Best Foot Forward K9 Training I am passionate about building better relationships between owners and their dogs. If you answered yes to any of these problem behaviors, there is hope!

Does your dog counter surf, chew your shoes, dig in the trash, ignore you when you call him, only listen when you have a treat, pull on the leash, react to other dogs or jump on people? I would love to help you build a better relationship with your dog. My permission based training techniques bring harmony to my clients who practice them consistently. My approach to dog training is geared towards

addressing the state of mind of your dog. My goal is to create a happy and balanced dog. The dog you have today does not have to be the dog you have tomorrow. I can help you change your world with your dog.

Trust me, I was a dog park regular once upon a time too. (no judgement!) I had a ton of behavioral problems with my dog. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was creating a dog who was stressed, anxious, had no impulse control, would bully other dogs, react on the leash, and that was just the beginning.

I hope you can learn from my mistakes! Do yourself and your dog a huge favor and take the time to find more meaningful, enriching, and intentionally engaging activities to do together. Today is a great day to start creating a stronger bond with your dog.

Hi!

I'm Amy Farmer - a dedicated trainer committed to helping your dog become a well-behaved and happy companion. My decade of work in animal rescue allowed me to witness firsthand the struggles dog owners face when trying to manage their furry companions.

After too many heartbreaking surrender stories due to behavior issues, I decided to dive deep into the world of dog training, spending years practicing and studying to figure out the most effective ways to communicate with our four-legged friends.

In 2017, I started my small business with a mission to help owners resolve their dog's bad behavior before it got out of hand.

Individualized attention and balanced training are a top priority for each and every dog I work with. With my customized training, I aim to empower owners with the right tools and techniques to reach their goals with their dogs.

So if you're struggling with your dog, don't worry - I'm here to help you put your best foot forward!

There is a reason dogs can behave differently for a trainer than their owner. The trainer has a different relationship with the dog. Lots of structure, accountability, consistency, and consequences for inappropriate behavior.

When a dog is only with us for a short time, every moment counts in building a solid foundation. Once they go home, that is the true test. Can the owner stick to the new rules? If so, they will likely have the same success the trainer had. If not, the dog will likely go back to his old ways as well.

Our dogs don't need us to be perfect, but they do need us to be consistent.

Simple adjustments to the way you live with your dog can allow you to enjoy them more!

When I'm working on stationary commands like sit, down and place, my praise is very neutral. I don't want to excite the dog, cause him to break command, and need to be corrected. I save my excited praise for recall training, where I want the dog motivated to move towards me.

Each time your dog ignores you calling her jumps on a guest, barks to be let out of the crate, or pulls you to meet another dog, you are giving her information about your relationship.

She is learning which rules will be enforced and which can be broken without consequence. It all adds up and before you know it, the little moments of naughty behavior turn into much larger issues.

An important component that is commonly missed is being intentional about when and how you interact with your dog. It is easy to unintentionally reinforce unwanted behaviors.

For example, if your dog is nervous about or reactive to a dog/person/trash can/etc - petting and telling them "it's OK" will reinforce those feelings and encourage the behavior to continue.

We came to Amy for help with leash walking with our 18 month-old chocolate lab, we left training two weeks later, with so much more! Before training we would avoid putting Bailey on a leash because she would instantaneously pull, now we go walking at every opportunity! Bailey also does a much better job of other commands such as sit, down, place and here (recall). Amy is amazing, knowledgeable, and so easy to work with. I cannot say enough good things!

Exceptional ... that is the word that comes to mind when thinking of the training Amy did for our adopted dog. She is very knowledgeable of all the aspects of training (physical, mental, and psychological) and includes them in her program to help ensure the best possible results. Her experience pays off ten fold in developing a skilled, under-control, well-mannered, and happy dog.

Additionally, she does a wonderful job including the family in the process and teaching us how to be good owners. She took our Wally (a 4 year old pointer-retriever mix, rescue) from being a good dog to being a very, very good dog, and provided us the path for him being every owner's desire in a K9 family member.

We absolutely loved our experience with Amy. Not only does our pup have a new set of tools for good behavior, but we also feel like we as owners are better equipped to be good dog paw-rents.

Amy kept us updated the whole way through social media posts and emails, and when we did our final lesson, we went home with everything we need, both behavioral and tangible, to keep up with the training. Can't recommend her enough!

Our dog is a 2 year old Shepherd mix. She went to Amy to work on resource guarding, stranger danger, mouthing, jumping and overall confidence.

When we picked her up after 2 weeks, we were really impressed by all she had learned in such a short time. You could also tell how much she trusted Amy.

When we got home, we felt equipped with the tools and knowledge to continue her education and apply appropriate corrections where needed.

My dog, Walter, is a German Shepherd / Malinois mix. Before training he had so much untrained energy. After picking up Walter, it was night and day. Amy was able to redirect his energy into training, teach Walter obedience, as well as educate me on how to continue training at home.

Amy was incredible! Extremely professional and always available for questions. I would recommend her services 100%.

I took my one year old pup Archie to Amy for training. I was blown away at how much he learned in two weeks.

Amy is an excellent trainer and I would not have wanted to take Archie anywhere else! I personally learned so much throughout having Archie there and while picking him up.

She is very hands on and wants them to succeed even after they are done with the program. Not only is your pup being set up for success, so are you.

Amy really takes the time after training to follow up and teach you what your pup has been taught throughout their stay with her. I loved the experience I had with Amy and so did Archie!

Our Story

My approach to dog training is geared towards addressing the state of mind of your dog, rather than focusing on creating rehearsed behaviors. My goal is to create a happy, healthy, balanced dog rather than a dog that simply knows a few commands.

It is important to understand that having a well trained dog will likely require some life style changes. I am ready to do whatever it takes for you and your dog to be successful, as long as I know that you are ready to make the same commitment to me and your dog.

The dog you have today does not have to be the dog you have tomorrow. I can help you change your world with your dog.
