❄️ Meet Kate & Kara ❄️

These two sweet girls are back with us and hoping their next chapter is the forever one. Kate and Kara were recently adopted but returned when their adopters realized puppy care requires more time, patience, and commitment than expected.

Kate and Kara are gentle, loving pups who are still learning about the world. They’re a bit undersocialized, but every day they show how much they want to trust, learn, and connect. With patient, understanding families, these girls will truly blossom into wonderful companions.

If you’re prepared to commit and ready to help these little snow pups grow into confident dogs, come meet Kate & Kara. They’re waiting for someone who will give them the time, love, and understanding they deserve. 🤍🐾

🐾 **Happy Adoption Update!** 🐾

We are so excited to share another heartwarming adoption success story! Jimmy, one of our adorable long-term residents, was recently adopted from YHS by an amazing family—and we couldn’t be happier for him. 💙

His family was kind enough to send us photos and a wonderful update that our staff was thrilled to read. They shared:

*“Hi! I just wanted to send a little update on Jimmy. He’s doing amazing and already getting along so well. Thank you again for trusting us with such a special friend.”*

Thank you so much to Jimmy’s awesome adopters for welcoming him into the loving family he truly deserves. We’re overjoyed to hear that he’s doing so well in his new home and wish them many more fun-filled years together. 🐶✨

Our staff absolutely loves receiving updates on our adopted animals—after spending so much time caring for and loving them, these messages mean the world to us. Thank you all for your continued support of YHS! 🐾

👑 Greetings, peasants. It is I… Chungus. 👑

I have graciously allowed the humans to display last week’s intake and outcome numbers. As you can see, it was a very busy week around here — lots of new faces coming in, lots of happy tails heading out, and plenty of hard work happening behind the scenes.

I personally supervised from a comfortable location (near food), offering moral support, gentle judgment, and my signature confidence. The staff did great. The animals did great. I, of course, did excellent.

Thank you to everyone who adopted, fostered, donated, shared posts, and helped make these outcomes possible. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have snacks to think about and a forever home to manifest. 😌🐾

🐾 Kennel vs. Beyond the Kennel 🐶

A dog in a kennel isn’t showing you their whole story.
The noise, the constant activity, and the lack of one-on-one time can be overwhelming. Even confident, happy dogs may appear stressed, withdrawn, or overly excited behind kennel doors.

But step outside that space — and everything changes.
On a walk, in a foster home, or with an adopter, dogs relax. Tails wag more freely. Personalities emerge. You see the playful, affectionate, loyal companions they truly are.

This is why community support matters so much 💙

• Walking gives dogs a mental break and helps them decompress
• Fostering allows them to feel safe, learn routines, and show their true selves
• Adopting gives them what they want most — a home of their own

Every bit of time spent out of a kennel helps reduce stress and improves their chances of finding a forever family.

One walk. One night in foster. One adoption.
It all makes a difference. 🐕💙

🐾 Foster Spotlight for December: Samantha Leavitt 🐾

Our fosters are absolutely amazing and play a vital role in the work we do here at the Yakima Humane Society. Without our foster families, we wouldn’t be able to help nearly as many animals as we do—and we are so grateful for each and every one of them.

For the month of December, we are thrilled to spotlight Samantha Leavitt! Samantha joined our foster family in 2020 and has a special love for fostering kittens in need. She shared that she enjoys having the companionship of animals in her home, while knowing her foster kittens will soon move on to their forever families. This allows her to open her home and heart to help even more animals in need.

Below are just a few photos of some of the kittens Samantha has fostered over the years.

Thank you, Samantha, for being such an incredible asset to the YHS foster family and for helping so many kittens who come through our doors. We truly appreciate you! 💙🐱

🐾 Fun Fact Friday! 🐾
Did you know cats have a special “vocabulary” just for humans? 😺 While they may meow at us constantly, adult cats rarely meow at other cats—they save those meows exclusively for their favorite humans! Talk about selective communication. 💬❤️
