We are always so excited to receive updates from adoptions that happened years ago. 💙 Recently, we received a wonderful update on Skeeter, who was adopted from Yakima Humane Society in 2017.

Skeeter’s adopter shared that they drove two hours from Seattle to meet him and returned a week later to bring him home after his neuter surgery. Since then, Skeeter has lived a full and adventurous life. He recovered from back surgery for a ruptured disc in 2019 and went right back to walking—and doing zoomies! He has traveled across the United States, visited several states, experienced a true snowy winter in Ottawa, Canada, and later settled in Vancouver, Washington to continue living his best life.

Now 15 years old, Skeeter has recently been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and GI disease. Through every challenge, he continues to embrace life, doing zoomies even if he’s lost a step or two. His family hopes to have him for many more years, as he brings so much joy to their home.

Below are photos of when Skeeter was at our facility in 2017, and current photos from the adopter. Thank you so much to Skeeter’s adopter for sharing this incredible update. We are beyond happy that Skeeter has such an amazing family who loves and cares for him so deeply through every stage of his life. 🐾💙 We hope Skeeter enjoys many more wonderful years with his family.

💙 Meet Mark — a gentle soul looking for safety and calm 💙

Mark is an 8-year-old Heeler mix who’s had a rough start and is finding the busy shelter world a little overwhelming. He’s a quiet boy who keeps to himself, watching and waiting, unsure of what’s being asked of him in all the noise and activity.

Mark feels safest with slow movements, soft voices, and patient people. When things are calm, you can see his sweet nature shine through. What he truly needs is a peaceful home with a fenced yard — a place where he can finally relax, feel secure, and learn that he’s safe and loved.

Mature dogs like Mark are often overlooked, but they have so much love to give. With time, understanding, and kindness, Mark will become a deeply loyal companion for someone willing to offer him the calm he’s been missing.

If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who just needs to feel safe, Mark is waiting for you. 🐾

😺 Fun Fact Friday!
Did you know that kittens are born blind and deaf? Their eyes open around 7–10 days old, and their ears start working shortly after. That means those tiny, wobbly explorers you see? They’re learning the world from scratch—one playful pounce at a time! 🐾

💙🐾 **Photo Updates Make Our Day!** 🐾💙

YHS staff absolutely love receiving photo updates of our animals after they’ve been adopted. Seeing them grow, thrive, and settle into their new homes truly makes our day!

We were so excited to receive photos of one of our puppies, **Nisha** (formerly Lulu). Nisha was adopted from us in **September 2025**, and wow—she is growing so fast!

Her adopter kindly shared updated photos showing Nisha growing up since her adoption. Below, you’ll see a photo of Nisha before she was adopted, along with recent photos taken in her new home.

Thank you so much to her adopter for sharing these wonderful updates. We truly appreciate you opening your home and heart to one of our animals and giving her the life she deserves. 💕🐶

Hi friends! 💕 I’m Krystal.

I’m a sweet, affectionate girl who loves pets and cuddles. I enjoy meeting people and soaking up attention, though I might choose a cozy hiding spot at first while I get used to new surroundings. With a little patience and love, I promise I’ll blossom into a wonderful, loyal companion.

While you’re admiring my gorgeous face, take a look at the numbers in this photo — they tell the story of a busy week here at the shelter and the lives that were helped along the way. Every intake, every outcome, and every second chance matters… including mine.

Thanks for supporting animals like me. Maybe my happy ending could be with you 🖤🐾

🐾 **Adoption Update – Jack!** 🐾

We love sharing happy updates from our adopters, and this one truly made our day! 💙 Jack (formerly Jack Jack) was adopted back in August and is clearly thriving in his forever home.

Here’s what his adopter shared with us:

*“Hi! Back in August me and my wife adopted Jack (formerly Jack Jack). He fits in perfectly with us and absolutely loves running and playing with his new brother Max in our yard, playing fetch and rough housing with me when I come home from work. He’s brought us so much joy and we love him more than anything, thank you guys for all the work you do!!”**

Thank you so much to Jack’s amazing adopters for giving him such a loving home and for taking the time to share this wonderful update. Seeing our animals so happy and cherished is why we do what we do. 💕🐶

🎉 New Year, New Leash on Life! 🐾

As we ring in the New Year, Yakima Humane Society is excited to kick things off with NEW adult dog adoption pricing — all in hopes of helping our amazing adult dogs find homes faster right here in the Yakima Valley.

💙 Starting January 1st:
🐶 Adult dogs are now just $100 to adopt!

Adult dogs often get overlooked, but they come with so many perks — established personalities, lots of love to give, and they’re often already past the puppy chaos stage. By lowering adoption fees, we’re working to reduce their length of stay at the adoption center and give them the fresh start they deserve in 2026.

If adding a loyal companion to your life is one of your New Year’s resolutions, this might be your sign. 🐕✨
