🐾 Happy Small Business Saturday! 🐾

Hi friends, it’s me, Elvira! I may be a dog, but I know a little something about bouncing back and loving life. I came to the Yakima Humane Society after a car accident, but thanks to the amazing care here, I’m back on my paws and ready to spread joy! 🐶💖

The Yakima Humane Society is a small, nonprofit organization, and we rely on our incredible community to keep helping pups like me. Every treat, donation, and visit helps us heal, play, and find our forever homes.

I live for cuddles, attention, and maybe a treat or two (okay, maybe more than two 😉). I’m friendly with everyone—humans and dogs alike—and I’m just looking for a loving home that wants a tail-wagging, happy-go-lucky companion.

This Small Business Saturday, remember that supporting small and local isn’t just for shops—it’s for the little shelters making a big difference in our lives. Come visit, donate, or just say hi! 🐾

🐾 Meet These Sweet Survivors! 🐾

These eight incredible dogs have been through so much. After their owners were deported, they were sadly left behind—but thanks to caring neighbors, they were kept safe until we could bring them into our facility.

They are estimated to be 3-5 years old and, understandably, a little shy from their past experiences. Our staff is working hard to help them feel safe and comfortable. With love and patience, these pups are blossoming into adorable, affectionate lap companions. 💛

🐾 We love adoption updates! 🐾

Hearing how our animals are doing after they leave our facility is truly one of the highlights of our day. We were thrilled to receive this heart-warming update about Moana — now called Kuʻuipo.

Her adopter shared:

Our family wanted to thank you for the opportunity to adopt Moana (we now call her Kuʻuipo, meaning “Sweetheart” in Hawaiian) and give her a forever home! Two Saturdays ago, we drove nearly 3 hours from Sultan to meet her. She is definitely worth the effort and is the sweetest, most cuddly and playful pup.

She's adjusting wonderfully to life in her new home. We're working on leash and potty training and a few basic commands. She's catching on like a pro!

Thank you again. Hoping that many, many more of her shelter friends find homes for the holidays!

Our adoption center is CLOSED today so our team can enjoy the holiday — but don’t worry, our dedicated staff is still here making sure every animal gets the love, care, and full bellies they deserve.

Yeah… that’s Murphina. 😂

We’ve tried treats, funny noises, squeaky toys, begging, bargaining, and possibly witchcraft…
Every photo still comes out looking like she’s in witness protection.

But trust us—Murphina is adorable, loving, and WAY cuter in person than our camera roll shows.

We had a big week of intakes, and the adoption center is overflowing with dogs right now. So many pups are hoping for a fresh start, including me—a 1-year-old Husky/Carolina Dog mix who’s been abandoned along the Greenway more than once but still has a whole lot of love to give.
