Boomer Update Sat June 28: Boomer was released yesterday from the hospital and we transported him back to our rescue where we will continue his recovery care (wound cleaning, antibiotics, pain management, etc...) until he is ready to be adopted out. A HUGE thank you to the team at Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care and to our local Vet Dr Malone... who answered on the first ring and, while not able to come out, suggested we give him Dex and Banamine injections which bought us the precious time needed to get him to Ocala. The total cost to save Boomers life came to just under $4400 with our discount which is about $3000 more than we have been able to raise in donations so far. Please continue to share his story and hopefully we will be able to close that financial gap some more. Updated pics below!
Boomer Update Thur June 26: Sharing the latest update from the incredible team at Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care ... "I removed Boomer’s trach this morning as planned and we will see how he does over the next 24-48 hours without it. Still a little bit of muzzle swelling and sensitivity to palpation there but his blood work this morning looks awesome and his cardiac troponin came back from Penn last night and was normal by some miracle. His arrhythmia has also resolved so I’m very happy to say he’s made it through this better than I could have expected. I’d like to plan to send him home with you Friday if all goes well."
Boomer Update Wed June 25: We received the following update from Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care yesterday and thought we would share with everyone... "Mr. Boomer is doing great, I'm very happy with how he's doing today, and I think we are on track to get the trach out or at least challenge him tomorrow without the trach to make sure he can breathe fully through his nostrils tomorrow morning as planned. His cardiac arrhythmia is becoming less frequent/consistent so his heart is responding well to a decrease in his dexamethasone dose. He'll definitely need to go home with antibiotics and a tapering dose of dexamethasone orally for a while but, again I'm very happy he's responded so well to therapy".
So it appears we have turned a very positive corner on Boomer's recovery and we anticipate being able to bring him back to the rescue in the next day or two where he will complete his recovery process! We truly appreciate all the support received so far with donations and shares and we are hoping we can keep that going for a bit longer. We have received about $1200 in donations toward what we expect will be about 5 to 6k in charges, so we are a long way off from covering Boomer's expenses and hope everyone will keep sharing his story so we can close that gap a bit more. We can't do what we do without the support of our followers, so please continue to share so that we can continue to rescue those animals that need us most. God Bless!
