We're almost done fencing in our outdoor arena. I took this shot which is looking out to the new location of our round pen which should be carved out and built with new footing over the next several weeks. The manure bunker is being built first, then onto the roundpen. For now the roundpen is in the outdoor arena, with plenty of room to work around it.

Never thought I'd be excited about the arrival of big concrete eco blocks! But here they are, just arrived today. We're building a manure bunker which will keep everything cleaner and the pile better managed. Next on our summer work list, relocating our round pen to it's new spot.

Lacey is one of our school ponies, and look at all the help she gave me teaching our youngest students how to ride. Good girl Lacey! April has some spectacular weather days and lessons can be taught outdoors. Hooray for sunny days!

Terrifying! Think carefully about how you vote. They sneak this garbage through, destroy peoples businesses and trample rights. I guess they have given up on crime, drugs, filth, people trashing cities, parental rights, and budgets. All in the name of climate change they are preparing to control what we drive, how far we'll be able to travel, what kind of house we'll be living in, what appliances & tools we are allowed to buy, what we read and what we're allowed to say. We all need to wake up, speak up and protect our rights. I'm certain this type of law will be hitting Washington property owners next.
Normally, I would not post this type of information, but this loss of people's rights to their property is happening now. How far are we going to allow the government to over reach, shut down farms & businesses, take away rights and tell us they are protecting us? You can bet the state government has a way for small farmers to keep their businesses operating, but only if they can afford the new permits required and the thousands of dollars needed to meet their building & operational requirements.

We took a long winter break from January through the end of February and lessons resume March 1st. The lesson horses have enjoyed just being on vacation, although their bliss was interrupted to have their health checks along with vaccinations and dental work. We completed some maintenance work on the property, and brought on some new stable hands to help us out. The school horses will be getting ready for lessons again, and they'll start with workouts in our newly installed 60' diameter round pen. Our next projects for the end of this month and early March include working on the hotwire and fencing in the turnout paddocks and the fencing and French drains for the outdoor arena. It's been a wonderful break for all of us, and I know many of our families were relieved to not have lessons in the coldest part of the year. Thankfully spring is nearly here, along with daylight savings time and it's time to ride again!
We are excited to get back to the reason this place exists, to introduce children to the joy of horses! From how horses and ponies think and how to handle and groom them, to that first ride or teaching the more advanced kids along with preparing them for competition, we are here to help kids achieve their dreams with a little help from a special horse or pony.

Meet Inky! He used to be a barn cat, but he's been living indoors the past 4 years to keep him safe from coyotes. I'd say he's made the full adjustment to home retirement!

We won't be sad to see the ice and snow go away! But I'm so grateful to the members of the "Bucket Brigade" that filled our horses and ponies water buckets with warm water every night! Super heroes! Thank you!

Our summer camps are kicking off tomorrow! We have two camps coming up and only a few spots are still open. Campers learn the basics of how to care for a horse or pony and share a horse working in teams on their assigned horse or pony to feed, water, turnout, clean stalls, groom, tack up and ride. The campers will have a riding lesson every day too! We'll also be teaching them how to put on the saddle and bridle, mount up, ask a horse to go and whoa, and the basics of how to steer. Campers will play fun games, do a bit of art and crafts, and most importantly, have a blast making new friends. To learn more, check out our website: https://www.ridingschoolcoach.com/childrens-horse-camps

Learning two point or jump position helps kids develop balance as well as leg & core strength & more flexibility to keep their legs long & heels down. A strong foundation gives them more confidence as they continue to grow in their skills.

We all enjoyed a sunny, warm Saturday. Jeff was out mowing the grass areas, Victor & Pat came out to reset Rino's shoes and set Teddy up with a glue on shoe, the students practiced some drill team moves, Ted took his beauty nap in the sun, and soon all the horses will be staring at me wondering when dinner will be served! I love these sunny days and longer daylight hours.

This Mother-Daughter pair enjoyed Mother's Day at the barn. They participated in a Mom & Me leadline class, cleaned their tack, helped clean stalls and bathed Cool Dude so he's ready for a body clip. The summer like heat didn't seem to slow them down.
I have open slots for the Mom & Me leadline class, July Day Camps & "A Day at the Farm" mini camps. For more information, just text me at 360-495-8688.

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of learning how to jump!
Hello everyone! My name is Deborah Ritchie and I love to teach riding! Specifically Hunt Seat Riding, both on the flat and over fences. On the flat just means riding at the walk, trot and canter as opposed to riding your horse over jumping obstacles.
I’ve been teaching for a good 30 years plus and am certified by both the USHJA which is the United States Hunter Jumper Association and the ARIA, the American Riding Instructors Association. My real passion is developing a rider from the beginning level all the way through participating in their first competition.
I enjoy teaching all levels and ages or riders. Children are especially fun to teach, and their enthusiasm for learning new skills and love for the horses and ponies is a joy to be a part of! Returning adult riders are also a joy to teach. There are so many adults out there who rode as a kid but with the demands and pressures of work, school or family have not been able to ride for a number of years.
The Riding School is a place to enjoy learning the sport of Hunt Seat riding without owning a horse of your own. I own several lovely lesson horses and ponies and I think of them all as “professors” ready to help you learn to ride.
My philosophy can be found on my website https://www.ridingschoolcoach.com My basic goal is that riders be well rounded because not only can they safely and effectively ride, they are also knowledgeable about the day to day care of the horse. To that end I also offer hands on classes about the many aspects of what you should know to own and care for a horse. This course, Practical Horsemanship is offered throughout the year.
I owned RockMeadow Equestrian Center located in Sammamish for nearly 32 years and sold the property in November of 2018. Although I have loved RockMeadow and it’s been my “heart” for these many years, I’ve wanted the change to just training the horses and teaching the riders without the responsibilities and time demands of barn ownership. I’m excited to be relocating my Riding School to beautiful Rosecrest Equestrian Estate in Monroe, Wa. I’m looking forward to meeting more wonderful students and horse people in the months ahead.
I’d be happy to meet you to talk about your riding dreams or goals, give you a tour of the facility where I work and teach, show you my lesson horses and introduce you to my groom and teaching assistant, Olivia Davenport. If you are considering leasing or horse ownership I’m available to help you in locating the right horse, and establishing a rewarding lesson and/or training program for you and your horse, a program designed for your goals as a rider.
You can reach me either by texting me or emailing me. It’s always best to just text me, rather than call. I’m quite often either working a horse or teaching and it’s not possible for me to answer the phone. I’ll get back to you just as soon as I can!
