Extremely cold temperatures can pose serious problems for animals exposed to the elements, even for short periods of time. Most pets cannot withstand temperatures below freezing (32ยฐF). It's important to recognize the signs of hypothermia to keep your pets safe.

Which pets need the most protection in cold weather?
โ„๏ธ Pets who are very young or very old
โ„๏ธ Pets with low body fat
โ„๏ธ Pets with little or very thin fur/hair
โ„๏ธ Pets with hypothyroidism
โ„๏ธ Small breed dogs

If your pet is showing signs of hypothermia, contact ASC immediately at (914) 457-4000. We are open 24/7.

Dogs may have noticeable seizures causing their bodies to convulse. They may also exhibit more subtle signs such as facial tremors, sudden movements, or unusual barking. If your dog ever experiences a seizure, here are some things to remember:

โœ… Stay calm and focused to help keep your pet at ease.
โœ… Track the length of the seizure and note the symptoms. If possible, video footage of the episode may be helpful to your dogโ€™s medical team.
โœ… Do not attempt to restrain or stop the seizure and keep away from the petโ€™s mouth - you could get bitten in the process.
โœ… To prevent your dog from hurting themselves during a seizure, keep them away from stairs, cushion their head, and gently hold and comfort them until they begin to regain consciousness.
โœ… Know that your dog is not conscious or in pain during the seizure, even if they sound or act like they are.
โœ… Always call your veterinarian or an emergency hospital ASAP after an occurrence.

If the seizure lasts for 2-3+ minutes or if your dog has more than one seizure in a 24-hour period, this requires immediate medical attention. ASC is open 24/7/265.

Meet Clyde ๐Ÿพ

Clyde is a brave pup who came to ASC where he was diagnosed with a spinal tumor. This tumor has caused him some mobility challenges, and his chances of walking again were slim to none.

Under the expert care of our radiation oncologist, Dr. Rosen, Clyde started radiation therapy to shrink the tumor and help manage his symptoms. With his family's dedication and Dr. Rosen's treatment, Clyde is now running and enjoying life to the fullest!

Many pet owners are nervous if anesthesia is needed for a surgery or procedure. However, anesthesia or sedation may be the best way for your pet to receive high-quality care without pain, stress, or discomfort.

๐Ÿพ Our team is trained to carefully select, dose, administer medications, and monitor your pet while they are at the hospital.

๐Ÿพ Some pain medications can last for 8-12 hours in dogs and up to 24 hours in cats. Your pet may act groggy and confused within this timeframe after their procedure.

๐Ÿพ Keep your pet from climbing, jumping, or running around for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Your doctor will instruct proper recovery time to prevent injury.

๐Ÿพ Call your us if your pet isnโ€™t eating within the anticipated timeframe, or if your pet vomits, develops diarrhea, or refuses to eat or drink for more than 12 hours.

Remember, it takes time for the effects of anesthesia to wear off. Don't hesitate to ask your veterinarian questions and more importantly, don't delay treatments that could help your pet have a healthier, happier life!
