Follow as I rescue an Amish road horse named Misty. When she got lame, she was headed to auction.

Misty got a ribbon last Saturday at the ECHO event! She had some trouble with a few of the Hazards but there was a lot and it was quite overwhelming. Plus it was pouring rain and we were both soaked. All said, I'm glad we gave it a try.

An ECHO (Equine Cones Hazards Obstacles) event is happening at our barn this Saturday and Misty is entered! Hoping she's does great 😃 and gets a ribbon

Misty carried me for the first time today! I'm very proud of her, she's been doing so well. Just a few laps around the riding ring because it was very hot and the greenheads were biting her. But every good experience is a step forward!

Misty had a great day today! We did some long line driving with her and then a wonderful lady at the barn got on her and rode her. She did fantastic 👏🏼 🎉

Here's a side by side of Misty today on the right and back in September when I first saw her on the left. She has gained about 100lbs. Look at the difference in the way she stands and how dark her eye looked before.

Beautiful Misty has started some long line work. Keeping it short and using a Dr Cooks bitless bridle. She's a good girl 💕

This is how I'm building up Misty's back muscles. Just walking over poles and also walking backwards. She's definitely making progress!

Misty had bodywork yesterday with Free Motion Animal Massage, LLC . This is taping to help her back muscles which have atrophied from years in a harness with her head held up by a check rein.

Misty had an appt with the horse dentist. She found 2 wolf teeth that had to be pulled! A 14 y/o horse with 2 wolf teeth means she most likely had never had her teeth done. Wolf teeth can be very sensitive and cause discomfort with a bit in their mouth. Misty was very brave and did better than I expected for her tooth work. She should be feeling and eating a lot better in a couple days.

Misty wanted to try on the cutback saddle...looks like it fits her pretty well 👍🏼 She is looking fit and filled out, and her top line is developing nicely. I'm working on getting a horse chiropractor in to treat her as well as some other natural type treatments.

Misty's little boy called her and she heard him way out in the pasture and came running in. Looks like she is engaging her back more.

A massage therapist came to give Misty a treatment yesterday. She said her back muscles are underdeveloped from the check rein holding her head up when pulling the cart for the Amish all those years. She was unable to carry herself properly and overused her chest and rump muscles while her back was hollowed out. Before I can even think about riding her, I need to do ground work to strengthen her back and maybe by the end of June she will be strong enough to ride.

Misty's young rider spent some time with her. She's very gentle around him, as many Morgans are. Yes that's her dewormer paste on her lips, lol. When I gave her a long hug, she let out a big sigh. I think she's trusting us more although she is very herd bound still. Her feet are getting better and I think the thrush is nearly gone.

Spent some time with Misty girl. She seems a lot more relaxed but definitely has a boss mare attitude, lol. Her weight is good and her mane is growing in where it was rubbed off.

Misty wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Look what a good girl she was today. Let me clean and treat all 4 feet and she wasn't even tied. I can tell she is feeling a lot better and more relaxed on her new digestive supplements.

Forgot to mention that the farrier said Misty has thrush, an infection in her feet. Going to get her some treatment for that. Could be a reason she was sore in her back end.

Misty is looking real good. She has put on some weight in time for winter and got a new stomach supplement today. Her feet were balanced yesterday and they look great. Hopefully it will help her joints feel better.

Misty's Lyme test was negative. That's good but now I need to figure out what she needs to feel better. I'm starting with a good joint supplement for older horses. She's 13 but I'm sure her joints are like those of a much older horse due to pounding the road for years. Looking at amino acid supplements and collagen for her too.

Misty had her booster shots and Lyme test pulled on Monday. If she is positive, we'll get her on medicine and she should feel a lot better. Currently she's very reactive to touch and doesn't seem to enjoy grooming like most horses do.

A trainer from VA was at the barn and took a look at Misty today. We had met her Friday and she said she just felt compelled to see Misty and talk to me about her. Her evaluation indicates she has a lot of tension and pain in her body, which didn't surprise me. She also suspects that Misty has ulcers and recommended that I get her tested for Lyme disease, so I am looking at supplements. I'll call the vet tomorrow about the test. Here she is looking more relaxed after some massage.

I spent some time with Misty yesterday. She has become very barn sour and just wants to go back to her stall. You can see her eyes look worried. So I'm going slow, just brushing, giving her treats and talking to her. She's carries a lot of baggage from her years pulling a cart. Its only been 4 weeks since her hoof trim but looks like she could use another already.

Misty was moved out of quarantine yesterday into a large pasture with another horse for a buddy. Rainy weather today so hoping for a break tomorrow and do some training exercises with her.

Shoes pulled and a good trim today! Before on left.Spent time walking her and letting her graze.

Today Misty got her shots and Coggins pulled. Her neck might be sore for a few days. Her coat is getting very shiny from daily currying.

I chopped up an apple and Misty loved it! We walked around the outdoor arena and round pen this afternoon. I hand grazed her in the yard and she seemed to enjoy our time together. Her swollen back fetlock has gone down a bit from not being confined to a stall.

Misty got dosed with Quest dewormer today. We curried and brushed her. She is still learning that humans are enjoyable. She walks away when I try to catch her in the field. Hopefully that will change.
