Have a puppy? 🐶
Why finding the right trainer matters from day one!
Bringing a puppy home is exciting... but it’s also the start of their training.
The sooner you start, the sooner you can learn to effectively communicate with your puppy.
A qualified and trusted trainer will give you strategies to happily live with your puppy, and create a training plan to lock in good behaviors early, and avoid problem behaviors later ✅
Early and successful socialization is critical to your puppy’s long-term well being. Its just as important as consistent training.
A well-trained dog is a happy dog. And a happy dog makes for a happy home 😊

Meet Aggie, our sweet senior pup who’s lost her hearing.
Mike has stepped up to the challenge, and has changed her training where he only uses hand signals. Aggie already knew both verbal and hand signal commands, but until this point, Mike only used verbal or sounds to mark behavior.
The transition to hand signal markers was easy because Aggie has lots of eye contact training, and after a few minutes of “marker charging”, Aggie started to read and understand the difference between the “yes” marker (thumbs up), and the “good” marker for duration (making a fist).
It’s incredible to see how they’re adapting, using hand signals and visual cues to stay connected.
Every dog, no matter their age or ability, deserves to feel understood and loved.

Aura came into training reactive, protective & with separation anxiety.
She would bark, herd, lunge and protect her owner.
Because of her high prey drive, Mike began each session with a game to get her energy out.
Working on handler confidence was also a big goal, as Aura showed dominance over her mom.
Mike taught Aura to let her handler drive and that she would be rewarded for waiting with reunification with her mom.
Check out that improved impulse control & waiting for the command from her mom!
We’re so proud of Aura and her owners. Way to work hard!

Does your dog struggle with fireworks? 🐶
Here are 6 strategies for helping your dog through the 4th of July successfully:
6 FIREWORK STRATEGIES:
🎆 1. Keep your dog indoors - loud noises can startle them and cause them to run away.
🎆 2. Provide a quiet and safe space for your dog - a crate, closet, or pet carrier can help them feel safe and secure.
🎆 3. Give your dog something to do - Kongs, puzzles, or snuffle mats can keep their mind busy.
🎆 4. Microchip and ID your dog - make sure they have proper identification with up-to-date contact information.
🎆 5. Walk your dog earlier in the day - your dog may be too frightened to go outside after the fireworks, so tiring them out a bit can help them rest better later.
🎆 6. Help your dog if he’s feeling anxious or frightened - sit near him quietly and do a low-key activity like reading a book.

How to Help my Dog Deal with Fireworks
Enzo & Summit had a long road ahead of them.
Before training together could begin, both dogs needed to undergo individual sessions.
Summit worked on basic obedience & leash manners, to lessen the opportunity for Enzo to interpret his enthusiasm as aggression.
Enzo got to work learning to trust his owner to control the situation at hand.
His owner learned how to help him work through his anxious reactions through engagement and exercise.
He also worked hard on building up confidence in successfully socializing with dogs other than Summit.
Any guesses on how close these two have gotten after months of hard work?
Tune in next week for our final installment of this series!

Dog Behavior Modification
Herding dogs have been bred to chase, eye, stalk, head and maybe even nip anything that moves.
As a herding dog owner, it is important to ensure your dog has ways to fulfill this biological need.
This allows the dog to practice what they were bred for, but also provides physical exercise and mental stimulation. Remember - an engaged dog is a happy dog!
Herding a ball for example, is one of many ways you can let your dog engage their prey drive safely. Way to go Banjo!

Working Dog Training
Meet Enzo. A rescue pup from down South who had a rough start to life. Fighting for food & safety, Enzo learned quickly the world was not safe.
As Enzo was learning to trust his new environment once adopted, he experienced a traumatic event at a doggy daycare, resulting in a physical altercation with another dog. Needless to say, Enzo’s progress was greatly disrupted and he was thrust back to his fearful mentality.
Enzo began to walk through the world with reactivity to other dogs and people based out of fear. Not knowing if other dogs and people were safe, Enzo would posture, bark, lunge, and show other aggressive and protective behaviors.
With Mike's help, Enzo is learning to trust new dogs and humans, take pack walks, and enjoying playing again!
There is so much more to share when it comes to Enzo. Stay tuned as we continue our series on this special little guy and how these wins are finally taking place!
