I know I owe you all some imperfect sun cards 😅 My birthday and this first week of school has me running in circles ! I'll have them up tomorrow at noon EST 💕 For now, enjoy this 5th instar monarch caterpillar filling up on swamp milkweed 🥰 He will form his chrysalis in the next day or so, he is about the size of my pinky. Swamp milkweed is a native milkweed here in Pennsylvania and flourishes in our rain gardens. It has beautiful flowers that are also a fabulous nectar source. Milkweed is the ONLY host plant for monarch caterpillars. That means it is the only thing monarch caterpillars can eat. We also love watching hummingbirds feed on the aphids that accumulate on milkweed!

I was just a foot away from this beautiful male ruby throated hummingbird! We've been working hard on our hummingbird gardens to bring more of these beauties in! We started with just a handful when we moved here 2 years ago. Now we have at least 2 dozen!

My first snowberry clearwing of the year ! They spent all winter in their cocoons and just emerged this morning! They are my all time favorite moth! One of their host plants is native honeysuckle (lonicera sempervirens) which also attracts hummingbirds!
