Press Release – December 16 – York, Delaware County and Lancaster Kennel Clubs

With tremendous regret we must announce the cancellation of the 2021 Celtic Classic Cluster in York, Pennsylvania scheduled for March 17 to March 21, 2021. It was the unanimous decision of the boards of all three clubs to take this step. Our perseverance to date was out of a sense of duty to the exhibitor community and a strong desire to provide an opportunity for those who rely on dog shows for their livelihoods, but recent events (detailed below) have necessitated this decision. This decision was not made lightly; it was well-considered and accepted only with great reluctance. The reasons for our decision are pretty straightforward:
• With COVID-19 spreading in an uncontrolled manner in so much of the country and the increasing restrictions in many states, the likelihood of judge panels being in a state of constant flux is likely.
• Assuring that out-of-state judges and stewards could comply with the current Pennsylvania negative test requirement or 14-day quarantine period is beyond our ability to control. All judges are traveling from out of state and require a hotel stay. With more states requiring tests, the backlog and test result time will grow. Even if we could rebuild the panels there is a high risk that one or more judges would not have results in time to perform their assignments.
• Pennsylvania is limiting the number of exhibitors in a building and this would have a negative impact on the quality of the shows.
• The increasing levels of infection risk to all individuals has become unsettling. Pennsylvania reported more than 9556 new COVID-19 cases on December 16 with coronavirus hospitalizations nearing pandemic highs. The PA Secretary of Health has warned that the state could run out of intensive care beds in December.

We wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and look forward to a happier 2021.

Borrowing from a friend’s post:

Your dog gets absolutely nothing out of being competitive for you. Not a darn thing. Of course dogs are bred for specific jobs, or they’re bred to be athletic to a certain degree.

They have no idea how much money is added to the pot. They have no idea that this is a qualifier. They have no idea that this is the World.

And DESPITE us... DESPITE our nerves, our flaws, our incorrect cues, our huge emotions, they get the job done to their very best ability. Even when we fail them by letting our emotions get in the way, they come back and they try again. For US. Let that sink in. If only we could all be so understanding.

To think of an animal that is forgiving and flexible enough to put up with the repetition of practice, the intense nerves of the handler, the stress of hauling and they will still meet you at the end of their lead ready to go is MIND BLOWING.
If you haven’t done so lately. Thank your dog

If you’re successful, thank the dogs that put you there and made you. Thank the dogs that gave everything they had for you simply because you ASKED them to.

If you’re still on the journey to success, thank the dogs that made you fall in love with your sport and who have helped give you the confidence to want to learn more and be better.

We can never stop learning as dog men and dog women, and by continuing our education. Every dog in our future will be better off.

Next time you head to a show, or trial, leave your ego at the door and thank your dog!"

On Monday, March 19, 2018, a Facebook message was circulated claiming a dog
was poisoned at the Celtic Classic Shows. The message also stated that Show
Chairs, the AKC and Site Control were made aware of the issue (not true) and did nothing about it.

The truth is that we were not aware of the claim until the Facebook message
was circulated on Monday. Nothing was brought to the attention of any member
of the Celtic Committee, the on-site Show Veterinarian was not made aware,
the AKC Reps were not advised, no Site people were advised, and Rau
Superintendents were not advised.

We have identified a few of the individuals involved in the false Facebook message
and have requested more detailed information from them so we could
investigate. As of this time, no information has been provided.

In regards to the post about PETA coming to the Celtic Classic..
We currently can NOT validate that this is indeed an actual threat.
That said, we have been in contact with AKC, the York Fairgrounds, and security. If someone should approach you, do not engage in a conversation with them. Contact security and the police will be called.
Security will be on alert at all times during the 5 days.
It goes without saying that regardless of threats, you should always be vigilant with your dogs anytime the public has access to them.
Watch out for your neighbors, watch your surroundings...
enjoy the show and best of luck to all!

Purina Farms will be closed Tuesday, July 4, 2017. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day! Keep in mind that this holiday can be tough on pets though.

More pets go missing over the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Fireworks can spook even the most well-adjusted dog. Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe during the festivities.

1. Exercise your dog in a safe place early in the day, before parties begin.
2. Keep your pet secured INSIDE your home; even dogs in fenced yards can find ways to escape.
3. Give your pets a safe place to hide, such as a comfy room or crate.
4. Use ambient noise to mask the booms and pops by playing music or leaving a television on.
5. Make sure their microchips are updated and all pets are wearing a current I.D. tag. Have a current photo of your pet available just in case.
6. Keep them busy with treat dispensing and puzzle toys, like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter and kibble.
7. Skip the celebration and stay home with your pet; your presence alone can reassure them that they are safe.
8. Try products that help to alleviate anxiety like compression wraps, pheromone diffusers, and homeopathic remedies.
9. Ask your veterinarian about more intensive options if your pet's anxiety is severe.

Preparing ahead of time is the best way to keep your pet safe and happy this holiday weekend!
