PLEASE CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT Appointments accepted with an approved application. We are NOT your average kennel. We are a little Doxie Hotel on 13 acres!! Our rooms have furniture, dog beds of all sizes, toys, and dog doors going out to the yards for total convenience any time, day or night. We currently have 9 doggie rooms and 8 nice sized fenced yards. Our goal is

to make every Dachshund as comfortable and happy as possible until their forever home is found, no matter how long it takes. Our building has room to grow with 3200 sf and we are currently expanding. We live on the property so we are never far away from our dogs. Our kids help out and our family has an overwhelming love for Dachshunds. Since we are a private rescue the only way we can operate is by charging adoption fees and with donations. Please consider donating to us or granting one of our Amazon wishes:

What to Expect from a Rescue Dog

Your new dog may have been abandoned, found as a stray, surrendered by a previous family, abused or neglected, or from a puppymill. The dog had to adjust to life at Chapman's Rescue and is now going home to a new, unfamiliarplace with strangers. Kind of scary if you think about it! Being gentle, considerate, kind and patient will help ease your new dog into his/her new life with you. Some rescue dogs may be very friendly at first while others may be reserved until they get to know you. Let the dog come to you – don't force him/her to do anything until you better understand his/her personality and behaviors. No dog is going to be "perfect" and due to their past history, rescued dogs may require special consideration. Rescue dogs have a higher chance of being very reserved or submissive at first due to their past history, but then tend to "come out of their shell" within 1-2 weeks. Don't feed pets in the same room together until they are showing no aggression or jealousy at mealtime. A dog that has been starved, or forced to give up food to other dogs in the past, may be very protective of the food you give it.

*WHERE AM I? * Your dog might be afraid and unsure of his new surroundings. If he appears to be scared, keep him in a small, quiet area to start, and take it slow. Don't allow children to bother the dog if he is afraid; fear can result in nipping. Instead, give your dog plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings, taking it one step at a time. Don't give up! Don't leave your other pets or small children unsupervised with the new dog until they are used to each other.

*OOPS! I'M SORRY * Even a potty trained dog can make mistakes in a new home! Expect this to happen. He doesn't know which door to go to or how to ask his new family what he wants. Keep a very watchful eye on your new friend and *confine him when you can't watch him*. The worst thing you can do is to physically reprimand a dog. This teaches the dog that he must go someplace you can't see him to eliminate. A firm "no" when you catch him in the act and placing him outside or on papers will teach him where it is appropriate to go. Some experts say not to place the dog exactly where you want him to go when you take him outside, but nearby and calling it over to that place. *The main thing is to reward good behavior and use firm verbal cues for bad behavior.

*It is not advised that you let the new member of your household free reign of the house when you are away for long periods of time. Use crate training as a positive way to confine your new dog for short periods of time.

*NEW RULES * Your new dog had a whole different set of rules in his previous home. He may have been allowed to sleep in bed or beg at the table. It's up to you to teach him your rules. Teaching proper behavior takes time and patience.

*ADJUSTMENT PERIOD * Allow several weeks to adapt to his new surroundings and up to four months to fully adjust (older dogs may take longer than young ones). Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. We assume that you will make a patient and concerted effort to achieve a successful placement. Sometimes rescued dogs may exhibit behavioral problems that could include house soiling, destructive behavior, mild aggression toward other pets or humans, submissive urination, clinging behavior, licking behavior, and hiding or cowering in bed. All rescued dogs will exhibit some behavior when entering a new home. Most of the time, bad behavior is of very short duration as the animal becomes used to its new surroundings. Chapman's will advise you regarding any behaviors that have been observed while the animal was in our care. These are some of the situations you may possibly run in to with your rescued dog. For the majority of adopters, however, after an initial few days of adjustment they find that they have adopted a truly wonderful little dog that wants nothing more than the touch of your hand, the sound of your voice, and the love of your heart.

Meet Grandpaw! We have had him for awhile and debated putting him up for adoption. He’s a happy guy in a pack and does great with the other dogs. We had a couple dentals done on him since he has been a sanctuary here. We hope there is someone special out there for Grandpaw, he really deserves a furever home 🙏he’s an adorably sweet wire hair who is 12 years old. He came to us from a breeder with a back injury. He’s healed nicely and is strong again now so we decided to post him in hopes someone will fall in love ❤️

*** Adoption pending! *** Hey y’all we have this sweet little guy who was adopted from us years ago and life circumstances have drastically changed for his momma and he needs to return to our rescue. He is currently located on the west coast of Florida. If we have any followers in the sunshine state who would be willing to foster him or looking to adopt, please contact us or if you’re local to the Carolinas and going to be visiting Florida or are in Florida now and can let him hitch a ride back that would be amazing too. Thank you 🙏 here is what his current mom has to say about him…

Bubba
Favorite activities are:
Sitting on a person’s lap or next to them with a blanket.
Sleeping in bed next to a person under a blanket.
Lying in the sun.
Squeaking a ball.
Telling you he is excited by being sassy.

Other things about him are:
Good in car rides.
Ok with other dachshunds but doesn’t really play with them.
Is great as an only dog.
Would LOVE to have someone home all the time to follow around.
Great companion for anyone with low mobility or home bound.
Will bark, but is friendly to human visitors.
He will wait if you tell him for food or a toy until you say ok.
House trained if taken out regularly.
Will bark at people out of excitement, but is always friendly.
Never went to a dog park, so not sure. He really would rather be with people.
Will bark at other dogs on a walk, so he acts like he doesn’t want to be around them.
He is on a low fat diet which controls a GI condition where he losses protein.
He also has occasional seizures only about twice a year.
He is not on any medication.
He is 11 lbs.
Just had a dental and complete blood profile and everything is good.

He cannot be around cats.
He has a strong prey drive.
He doesn’t like when people leave him and will bark like you forgot him.

We didn’t have any adoptions this week and kind of been taking a little bit of a break through the holidays…so in lieu of happy hound tales, We wanted to share Marilyn and Monroe! They haven’t had any inquiries or applications. These pictures are a bit dated but they are bonded 12 year olds that were surrendered by their family and are the most loving dogs who are the most deserving of a forever home ❤️❤️

*** Adoptikn pending ! Both girls together will be adopted together by a past adopter !***Cass (long haired black and tan, 6 years old) and Yanna (long haired black and tan dapple, 1 year old). No new applications will be considered for them. If you have one of the 300 applications we have on file or have adopted from us in the past, please reach out to us if you are interested in either or both of these girls, they do not have to be adopted together however they are being fostered together, and this is what their wonderful foster mama has to say about these sweet girls….

Update on the girls:

We are not going to adopt either but only because we know these two will be swooped up easily and we can live to foster another day.

Although I am very partial to both so they have to go to the best homes possible as they both deserve to be spoiled rotten all the days of their lives.

Cass (aka Sassy Cassie) is the sweetest most affectionate little girl I have ever met. She wants to be snuggled up under the covers with her person all day long. She can sleep all day by my side as I’m working and she’s content. She has had an accident or two but if you are giving her relatively frequent outside breaks, she is pretty well potty trained. If she gets up from a nap and goes to the door, she is telling you she needs to potty. She is not food aggressive with normal food but she may try and steal treats. You gotta be quicker than she is. She sleeps all night in her kennel without pottying or barking.

Yanna: she needs a little more outside time but still naps quite a lot throughout the day. She’s still a puppy so she’s had more accidents than Cass but she does know to go when we are outside so she’s well on her way to potty trained. Just have to watch her. She will let you know. She’s very sweet but still timid. She will bite (hard) if she gets scared or is being corrected. Not that we harshly correct but if you try to catch her after an accident to show her and say “bad” and then take her outside so she knows the potty goes outside, she will run from you, hide in a small crevice and bite the mess out of you if cornered. We have not allowed her to feel cornered again. It’s better to just let out frequently so she can learn when and where to potty that way. She will also steal treats, sometimes right out of Cass’ mouth.

Both girls are crate/kennel trained. Yanna is better than Cass and will “go in her room” when told whereas Cass sometimes needs to be carried to bed.

Both are good with other dogs (large and small) and cats although they still bark at the cat on occasion.

Both did very well with the fireworks.

Cass will be ok with a single pet family or multi pet family; on her own or with a pack.

Yanna really needs a companion. She follows Cass and the others around and cries if she feels left alone. We put her to bed without Cass one evening and she hated it. She and Cass sleep snuggled up together every night. She isn’t giving me alpha vibes. I really think she needs a leader in her new home.

Overall, we love these little cuties to death and they just need love and patience in their furever home.

A few recent pictures to follow in case you want to share with the page.

***adoption pending ***Our special girl Nala is now ready for adoption. She is 7 years old and weighs about 18 pounds. She’s the sweet girl who was going to be euthanized by her owner because she had a chronic skin condition and infections. We have gotten everything under control and she is stable now, but it could be an ongoing thing. She does take apoquel daily and she eats quality food. Nala is beyond amazing in every way. She is a gentle, kind soul who has a bit of a shy personality and is very low key. She is a quiet girl and is as house trained as a dachshund can be. She gets along perfect with everyone and is an exceptional dog with an exceptional personality 🩷 Nala’s adoption fee is a $300 donation and a $20 application fee applies. These 4 new babies need to bust out of our kennel and get their vetting done so they can be adopted, can anyone help? Our vet bill this week was over $5700, 1/2 of the bill was for 3 of our seniors; Humphrey, Marilyn and Monroe. We have many new dogs that are not posted yet who need vetting, some are extensive surgeries. Even $5-$10 adds up quickly. We really appreciate it! PS: These sweeties are not available yet until after their vetting. Pretty please do not apply until they are posted for adoption. Thank you so much!!

Meet Bailey and Pumba! They are a 6 and 7 year old bonded pair who are as sweet as can be!! Bailey is a long haired black and tan and Pumba is a smooth coat red. These are the happiest boys ever and they get along great with everyone. Sadly their Dad went to nursing home and couldn’t care for them anymore. They are both heathy; neutered, up to date on vaccines, hw negative, they have also both had dentals. They are very bonded and will not be separated. They are perfect inside and out. Their adoption fee together is $400. A $20 application fee applies. Here is the link: https://form.jotform.com/241745142308149

Are you looking for a fun, extremely active and bouncy ween who barks her head off at everything, jumps on counters, steals your food, and tears everything up like a cyclone hit? WE HAVE THE GIRL FOR YOU! Meet Luna!! She is an adorable and quite mischievous 2 year old dachshund mix who weighs 12 pounds... Luna is healthy and had vaccines today, she is heart-worm negative and will be spayed Thursday so she is ready to receive applications. She gets along great with other dogs and is passionate for people and would do great with considerate kids. Luna was found by a Good Samaritan as a stray dragging her leash, she was reported to their local animal control, and the proper stray hold was completed. Sadly no one came forward to claim her so we took her into our rescue. Luna needs an active home with a secured fenced in yard and no shared walls (her bark meter is off the charts ;) Her adoption fee is $300. A $20 application fee applies, here is the link: https://form.jotform.com/241745142308149
