PLEASE CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT Appointments accepted with an approved application. We are NOT your average kennel. We are a little Doxie Hotel on 13 acres!! Our rooms have furniture, dog beds of all sizes, toys, and dog doors going out to the yards for total convenience any time, day or night. We currently have 9 doggie rooms and 8 nice sized fenced yards. Our goal is

to make every Dachshund as comfortable and happy as possible until their forever home is found, no matter how long it takes. Our building has room to grow with 3200 sf and we are currently expanding. We live on the property so we are never far away from our dogs. Our kids help out and our family has an overwhelming love for Dachshunds. Since we are a private rescue the only way we can operate is by charging adoption fees and with donations. Please consider donating to us or granting one of our Amazon wishes:

What to Expect from a Rescue Dog

Your new dog may have been abandoned, found as a stray, surrendered by a previous family, abused or neglected, or from a puppymill. The dog had to adjust to life at Chapman's Rescue and is now going home to a new, unfamiliarplace with strangers. Kind of scary if you think about it! Being gentle, considerate, kind and patient will help ease your new dog into his/her new life with you. Some rescue dogs may be very friendly at first while others may be reserved until they get to know you. Let the dog come to you – don't force him/her to do anything until you better understand his/her personality and behaviors. No dog is going to be "perfect" and due to their past history, rescued dogs may require special consideration. Rescue dogs have a higher chance of being very reserved or submissive at first due to their past history, but then tend to "come out of their shell" within 1-2 weeks. Don't feed pets in the same room together until they are showing no aggression or jealousy at mealtime. A dog that has been starved, or forced to give up food to other dogs in the past, may be very protective of the food you give it.

*WHERE AM I? * Your dog might be afraid and unsure of his new surroundings. If he appears to be scared, keep him in a small, quiet area to start, and take it slow. Don't allow children to bother the dog if he is afraid; fear can result in nipping. Instead, give your dog plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings, taking it one step at a time. Don't give up! Don't leave your other pets or small children unsupervised with the new dog until they are used to each other.

*OOPS! I'M SORRY * Even a potty trained dog can make mistakes in a new home! Expect this to happen. He doesn't know which door to go to or how to ask his new family what he wants. Keep a very watchful eye on your new friend and *confine him when you can't watch him*. The worst thing you can do is to physically reprimand a dog. This teaches the dog that he must go someplace you can't see him to eliminate. A firm "no" when you catch him in the act and placing him outside or on papers will teach him where it is appropriate to go. Some experts say not to place the dog exactly where you want him to go when you take him outside, but nearby and calling it over to that place. *The main thing is to reward good behavior and use firm verbal cues for bad behavior.

*It is not advised that you let the new member of your household free reign of the house when you are away for long periods of time. Use crate training as a positive way to confine your new dog for short periods of time.

*NEW RULES * Your new dog had a whole different set of rules in his previous home. He may have been allowed to sleep in bed or beg at the table. It's up to you to teach him your rules. Teaching proper behavior takes time and patience.

*ADJUSTMENT PERIOD * Allow several weeks to adapt to his new surroundings and up to four months to fully adjust (older dogs may take longer than young ones). Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. We assume that you will make a patient and concerted effort to achieve a successful placement. Sometimes rescued dogs may exhibit behavioral problems that could include house soiling, destructive behavior, mild aggression toward other pets or humans, submissive urination, clinging behavior, licking behavior, and hiding or cowering in bed. All rescued dogs will exhibit some behavior when entering a new home. Most of the time, bad behavior is of very short duration as the animal becomes used to its new surroundings. Chapman's will advise you regarding any behaviors that have been observed while the animal was in our care. These are some of the situations you may possibly run in to with your rescued dog. For the majority of adopters, however, after an initial few days of adjustment they find that they have adopted a truly wonderful little dog that wants nothing more than the touch of your hand, the sound of your voice, and the love of your heart.

🩷We received this email plea for help, please no negative comments, they will be deleted 🙏 🩷 Note: It is extremely difficult for us to pick a home for a purebred dacshund puppy, she is one puppy vs so many wonderful people who will apply. So to be fair we are opening up applications for her now and will accept apps through Friday, July 11th. There is a $20 non-refundable application fee/donation (this helps cover her care) We will go through all the apps next weekend and choose the top 10 best fit we approve and draw a name. You can apply here to be considered: https://form.jotform.com/241745142308149. Please write the word SABLE on your app, here is her story…

My husband and I purchased a puppy two weeks ago and we are unable to keep her. She is a precious AKC mini sable dachshund. I am 71 and my husband still works full time and I am unable to train her. The breeder has not responded and I have learned an expensive lesson that I do not have the patience for a puppy. I like the idea that you vet your adoptees and I would love to see her go into a home that will love and care for her. At my age, I think my health trumps my ability to train her. We love this puppy, but before we get more attached, I am reaching out to you to see if you will take her.

Roads is ready for adoption 🥳🎊
He’s the sweet senior guy we rescued from Rowan shelter a few weeks ago. Roads weighs about 11 pounds and roughly 12 years old. He has a lot of pep to his step and is pretty active for a senior…he is as sweet as he can be! He gets along great with everyone!! Roads is neutered, has a fresh dental cleaning, microchip, he’s HW negative, and up to date on his vaccines. Roads adoption fee is a $100 donation to the rescue. Please consider giving this sweet older man a furever home 🏡 🙏❤️ https://form.jotform.com/241745142308149

Imagine the joy of getting 2 rescue puppies for your children when they are young and watching them grow up together making so many memories as a big happy family...fast forward 8 years later, the children are now grown up and going off to college...and the parents decide it is best to give the dogs back to the rescue, now young seniors taken away from the only family they have ever known and loved and trusted, because the parents do not want the responsibility anymore now that their dog walkers are leaving. True story. Meet Olive and Slinky. PLEASE consider them. They are the sweetest dogs and are even house trained so definetly not purebred dachshund ! They are great with people, kids, other pets. They are both healthy and just had dentals and updated vaccines. Very low maintenance and the most deserving 🙏❤️

**Adoption pending **This 15 year old blind dachshund was surrendered to us yesterday. A lady just passed away in peace thinking her longterm roommate was going to care for this sweet old guy for the rest of his life. Sadly this was very short lived. We even offered to pay for his medical care so he wouldn’t have to start over with so much confusion and loss already. Meet Max. He is the most deserving of a soft place in someone’s heart and home ❤️ 🏡 🙏

❤️Pebbles and Shay ❤️
Unwanted and returned twice 🥲

Rescue dogs are deserving of our love and compassion. They are broken and most have faced difficult circumstances, leading to behavioral issues, health issues, etc. If you're seeking a perfect dog, you may want to consider purchasing a puppy from a breeder to mold into your dream dog. Please don't apply to adopt and waste our time and yours if you're not willing to give a rescued dog a chance. Our dogs require patience, time, and understanding to thrive. Many of these dogs have never experienced the warmth of a loving family…please give them an opportunity to feel safe. Once they are confident with you, your rescued dog will be the most loyal best friend you ever had ❤️🙏❤️

Meet Claire, Aria, Addie and Archie! We are asking for financial assistance to cover the veterinary expenses for these 4 beautiful dachshunds which were given to us today. Even modest contributions of $5 or $10 can add up quickly. The dogs all require a range of medical procedures, including spaying, neutering, dental care, vaccinations, heartworm tests, and preventative measures. We also need to compensate our kennel staff for their care until the dogs are adopted. They are all sweet babies and we appreciate you all 🙏❤️
