Do not fill out an application and expect approval on a dog that we don’t have posted as available. We are NOT your average kennel. We are a little Doxie Hotel on 13 acres!! Our rooms have furniture, dog beds of all sizes, toys, and dog doors going out to the yards for total convenience any time, day or night. We currently have 9 doggie rooms and 8 nice sized fenced yards. Our goal is to make ever

y Dachshund as comfortable and happy as possible until their forever home is found, no matter how long it takes. Our building has room to grow with 3200 sf and we are currently expanding. We live on the property so we are never far away from our dogs. Our kids help out and our family has an overwhelming love for Dachshunds. Since we are a private rescue the only way we can operate is by charging adoption fees and with donations. Please consider donating to us or granting one of our Amazon wishes:

What to Expect from a Rescue Dog

Your new dog may have been abandoned, found as a stray, surrendered by a previous family, abused or neglected, or from a puppymill. The dog had to adjust to life at Chapman's Rescue and is now going home to a new, unfamiliarplace with strangers. Kind of scary if you think about it! Being gentle, considerate, kind and patient will help ease your new dog into his/her new life with you. Some rescue dogs may be very friendly at first while others may be reserved until they get to know you. Let the dog come to you – don't force him/her to do anything until you better understand his/her personality and behaviors. No dog is going to be "perfect" and due to their past history, rescued dogs may require special consideration. Rescue dogs have a higher chance of being very reserved or submissive at first due to their past history, but then tend to "come out of their shell" within 1-2 weeks. Don't feed pets in the same room together until they are showing no aggression or jealousy at mealtime. A dog that has been starved, or forced to give up food to other dogs in the past, may be very protective of the food you give it.

*WHERE AM I? * Your dog might be afraid and unsure of his new surroundings. If he appears to be scared, keep him in a small, quiet area to start, and take it slow. Don't allow children to bother the dog if he is afraid; fear can result in nipping. Instead, give your dog plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings, taking it one step at a time. Don't give up! Don't leave your other pets or small children unsupervised with the new dog until they are used to each other.

*OOPS! I'M SORRY * Even a potty trained dog can make mistakes in a new home! Expect this to happen. He doesn't know which door to go to or how to ask his new family what he wants. Keep a very watchful eye on your new friend and *confine him when you can't watch him*. The worst thing you can do is to physically reprimand a dog. This teaches the dog that he must go someplace you can't see him to eliminate. A firm "no" when you catch him in the act and placing him outside or on papers will teach him where it is appropriate to go. Some experts say not to place the dog exactly where you want him to go when you take him outside, but nearby and calling it over to that place. *The main thing is to reward good behavior and use firm verbal cues for bad behavior.

*It is not advised that you let the new member of your household free reign of the house when you are away for long periods of time. Use crate training as a positive way to confine your new dog for short periods of time.

*NEW RULES * Your new dog had a whole different set of rules in his previous home. He may have been allowed to sleep in bed or beg at the table. It's up to you to teach him your rules. Teaching proper behavior takes time and patience.

*ADJUSTMENT PERIOD * Allow several weeks to adapt to his new surroundings and up to four months to fully adjust (older dogs may take longer than young ones). Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. We assume that you will make a patient and concerted effort to achieve a successful placement. Sometimes rescued dogs may exhibit behavioral problems that could include house soiling, destructive behavior, mild aggression toward other pets or humans, submissive urination, clinging behavior, licking behavior, and hiding or cowering in bed. All rescued dogs will exhibit some behavior when entering a new home. Most of the time, bad behavior is of very short duration as the animal becomes used to its new surroundings. Chapman's will advise you regarding any behaviors that have been observed while the animal was in our care. These are some of the situations you may possibly run in to with your rescued dog. For the majority of adopters, however, after an initial few days of adjustment they find that they have adopted a truly wonderful little dog that wants nothing more than the touch of your hand, the sound of your voice, and the love of your heart.

In November of 2018, we rescued a dog from a South Carolina shelter named Coco Bean. When she was adopted, she left with a family who didn’t just give her a home—they gave her a life.
For seven years, she was loved. She knew warm beds, familiar routines, soft voices, and the comfort of belonging. She had parents who adored her, who showed up for her every single day. She wasn’t just a dog in that home—she was family.
And then, life did what it sometimes does.
Both of her parents passed away.
With no one left to advocate for her, no one to explain her story, she found herself back in a shelter—but not the one she came from. A different state. A different building. Different smells. Different faces. Seven years older. Seven years of memories behind her.
She didn’t understand why everything she knew was suddenly gone.
When we learned who she was, our hearts sank. This wasn’t a failed adoption. This was a dog who did everything right. She loved deeply. She stayed loyal. She lived a full life with her people until the very end.
Now she’s back with us—older, softer, carrying both love and loss. She doesn’t need perfection. She doesn’t need a replacement. She needs someone willing to hold space for her story, to honor the life she had, and to give her comfort in this next chapter.
Rescue doesn’t always look like happy endings wrapped in bows. Sometimes it looks like showing up again—years later—when a dog needs us one more time.
And we will. Always. Welcome back Coco Bean

Happy & Healthy New Year everyone! Here are some of our dachshunds who are fully vetted and ready to find their furever homes in 2026!! Info about each dog is under their pics. If you are interested in any of these babies, please only apply if you do not already have an application on file or are a past adopter, in that case, just reach out to us :) If you have not filled out an application, there is a $20 processing fee to apply, this is in addition to the adoption fee, and we will check your vet references (we go back at least 2 years) so please only apply if you are serious about adopting now - and can verify current vetting, current hw test and your pet(s) are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and preventions. THANK YOU!!

We’re always happy to welcome new applications and truly appreciate everyone who takes the time to apply ❤️ That said, we want to be upfront—our rescue dogs are rarely puppies or “perfect” dogs. Most come to us with stories, quirks, and sometimes special needs.
The $20 application donation helps support their care, and if you do choose to apply, your application will be kept on file for future matches. We just won’t process your vet referenece etc., unless you’re ready and are applying for dacshunds currently in our care. Even if the timing or dog isn’t right today, your support truly makes a difference for the dogs who need us most. We just did our first post In 2026 of adoptable dogs. Happy and healthy new year everyone 🥳 🎊

You don’t always see the emergency vet runs.
The long-term medical cases.
The dogs who may never be adopted—but are deeply loved and safe here. 🐾
That’s where monthly donors come in. If you’ve ever cheered for a rescue win, fallen in love with one of our pups, or believed in what we do—this is a powerful way to be part of their story, every month.
Recurring donations allow us to care for both our adoptable dogs and our sanctuary dogs—covering food, medical needs, medications, training, and daily care at our kennel.
Your monthly gift gives stability to dogs who’ve known nothing but uncertainty.
It gives us the ability to keep showing up.
If you’d like to help in a meaningful, ongoing way, please consider joining our monthly donor family. 💛
Even a small monthly gift makes a BIG difference. We truly couldn’t do this without you. https://www.chapmansdox.com/donate

Today was Luna’s day ✨
After being so sick, so fragile, and fighting harder than any pup should have to, this sweet girl finally got her moment. No hospital cages. No worried nights. No “what ifs.” Just joy, sunshine, and the beginning of forever.
This is why we rescue.
This is why we don’t give up.
This is proof that miracles are real.
Today, she isn’t defined by how sick she once was — she’s defined by how far she’s come. And today, her victory lap, she shines brighter than ever. 🌟🐶
Happy adoption day, beautiful girl. Your happily-ever-after starts now. 🏡❤️🐾

Our Christmas miracle! 🎄✨
Luna is running, barking, and playing with her furry foster friends — full of life and joy.
Her adorable personality shines brighter every day, even as her little body continues to heal.
And next week, Luna heads to her forever home… the biggest blessing we could ever ask for! 🙏🐾💖

Home for Christmas 🎄🐾
I wasn’t on a wish list,I came with a past. But you saw my heartAnd chose me fast.
Right before Christmas,You said “you’re mine,”And in that moment,This rescue found home —Just in time. ❤️
Merry Christmas everyone! 🎁

Y’all, we have several true rescue pups who will be ready this week, and each one of them would absolutely love a home for Christmas! 🎄🐾
With the holidays quickly approaching, we don’t have time to process a large number of new applications. If you’re thinking about adopting and have adopted from us before—or already have an approved application on file—please reach out to us directly.
Meet our available pups:
🐶 Bubba – 1.5-year-old red smooth Dachshund, picked up as a stray. Bubba is a door runner, so he will need a very secure home and yard where he cannot escape.
🐶 Shaggy – 4-month-old small Dachshund mix. She is mostly blind, incredibly sweet, and will do great with gentle, considerate kids.
🐶 Max – 5-year-old gorgeous long haired shaded cream Dachshund. Max has high anxiety, especially when left alone, and cannot be crated. Even with professional training, he is not housebroken and needs a home where someone is around most of the time.
If you feel you might be the right fit for one of these special pups, please message us, we can send you pics and elaborate more about each one. A Christmas home would mean everything to them. ❤️🎄

***ADOPTION PENDING***
Luna went for a walk today. She didn’t want to go very far, but she took in everything around her and truly enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. She was very interested in the horses and couldn’t have cared less about the cats.
Just last week we were told she probably would not make it and were advised to consider euthanasia. That was never an option for us.
We picked her up, brought her back to our vet, and now she’s recovering beautifully back in the rescue—right where she belongs.
Life is good. Walk in faith, trust your instincts, and never underestimate the power of love, perseverance, and prayer. ❤️🙏
