✨ REMINDER ✨

Ruby’s Mission is specifically for TNVR community cats with managed caregivers who need assistance with food. This program is not for individuals with owned pets needing supplemental food assistance. The donations to the pantry have been at an all time low and there is no surplus to assist individuals with indoor cats at this time.

If you need supplemental food assistance for your indoor pets and you live within York County (PA), please reach out to York County SPCA to request assistance through their community pet food pantry.

Thank you!

Ruby’s Mission recently received a very generous donation of dry and wet food from a wonderful individual named Shelia. We are extremely grateful for her generosity towards our mission and cannot wait to supply it to caregivers in need.

If you live in York County, PA and are struggling to feed your altered community cats, please don’t hesitate to reach out for food. All participants of the pantry are able to receive food every 30 days as supplies allow.

‼️ DRY CAT FOOD NEEDED FOR PANTRY ‼️

Hey everyone!

I know, I sound like a broken record but the need for dry cat food for Ruby’s Mission continues. I was recently offered 80lb bags of off-brand dry cat food for $30. That’s an absolute STEAL and will help SO MANY cats & caregivers in need.

Would you be willing to sponsor 1 bag of dry cat food to help support Ruby’s Mission? If so, please consider sending a monetary contribution through one of the following:

We love Amazon deliveries!! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who made a donation towards our community cat food pantry after our most recent post of being low on necessary supplies. We are so grateful for the support of our followers.

We have more pick ups scheduled this week and this is such a huge help for those in need. So many well deserving kitties will now have full bellies thanks to our supporters!

Looking for ways to support our mission of ensuring every altered community cat has access to supplemental food? Check out our Amazon wishlist and consider donating an item to help caregivers in need.

Right now, the biggest request is for dry cat food! Many caregivers are struggling to feed their community cats due to the rising cost of cat food. I currently have 8 bags in stock ready to provide to caregivers but, those will be gone by the end of the weekend with scheduled pick ups.

Any help is greatly appreciated so that we can continue our mission ❤️

‼️ Let’s talk about FOOD… ‼️

I personally help to manage over 70 altered community cats in different colonies throughout York County and many of my caregivers feel guilty that they can’t afford “high quality” brands like Blue Buffalo, Rachel Ray, and sometimes even Purina. I constantly have to remind them that FED. IS. BEST.

While I can empathize with the desire to feed more expensive brands of food with the hope that the higher quality product ensures a healthier lifestyle, it’s important to remember that the cats we’re managing are consuming alternative proteins such as small mammals and ensuring that we are supplementing their diets to meet their nutritional needs is most important. That means the brand of food you can afford to purchase is what matters most because you’re keeping their bellies full.

Please also remember that feeding canned cat food is not a necessity unless you have a cat who medically requires soft food. Many caregivers struggle to pay for the basic necessities of managing community cats and encouraging daily wet food consumption could push a caregiver out of their financial budget. Utilize canned food as a treat and/or when you need to continue your trapping efforts! Don’t stress over the fact that you cannot afford to feed it every single day or at all.

If you live in York County (Pennsylvania) and are currently caring for altered community cats and are in need of supplemental food assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I currently have dry food and canned food to provide to caregivers in need.

Please note that in order to receive assistance through Ruby’s Mission, all cats that you currently manage MUST be TNR’d. If you have community cats that you are actively working to TNR and can provide proof that you’re working with a local organization to complete this task or by yourself, I am happy to assist you! It is important to ensure that anyone who is receiving food assistance understands why feeding without fixing is supportive of a much larger issue that I do not want to encourage.

Wow!

Thank you to the anonymous donor of 3 bags of Friskies dry food and to Kayla for the bag of 9Lives plus a case of Friskies canned food, a bottle for neonates, and formula for kittens (not pictured).

Amazon delivered the bags of Friskies during our last two days of constant rain so I didn’t open the boxes until today! They are now safe within my pantry and ready to be given out to the next caregiver in need.

Hi everyone!

My name is Jade - for those of you who don’t know me personally. I am an animal welfare advocate located in York, PA. My love for animals goes back as far as I can remember and I’ve been involved in the shelter/rescue community since I was 10 years old.

I’ve been doing TNR for over 20 years now and understand the importance of managing community cats in their outdoor setting. I created Ruby’s Mission after realizing how many pet food pantries don’t support community cat caregivers. And while I can understand the decision many pet food pantries have to make when supplying product to pets in need, I felt compelled to ensure that those who are being managed outdoors receive the same support as their counterparts living indoors!

My goal with Ruby’s Mission is to offset the financial burden associated with feeding altered community cats to ensure that their caregivers are able to manage their daily lifestyle without having to pick between a bag of cat food for their colony or necessary groceries for themselves. Because as many of us know, caregivers are some of the most selfless individuals you’ll ever meet in the cat world!

With this mission, part of my goal is to also help caregivers understand the importance of TNR (trap/neuter/return) and ensure that their colonies have been vetted appropriately to help reduce overpopulation and minimize the spread of communicable diseases that are often seen in unaltered community cats.

My hope is that by supplying necessary food to these colonies as well as educating caregivers on the importance of TNR, we can encourage healthier (managed) community cats throughout York County, PA.
