Whew, it's HOT out there!

Please remember your pet's safety during the heatwave this week. Walks and outdoor activities should be limited, if possible, during the day's heat. If you must be out - stick to the shade! This is not the time to have your dog outside - leave them at home where they can stay cool and safe.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition that can develop in dogs faster than you think. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat stroke which include panting, thick saliva, restlessness, and vomiting. All dogs are susceptible to heat stroke, though flat-nosed breeds, such as pugs and bulldogs, breeds with thick coats, seniors, and puppies are at an increased risk. If you suspect your dog or puppy is suffering from heat stroke, move them to a cooler location, offer water, and take them to a vet as soon as possible.

I rescued a human today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.
I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I promise to keep her safe. I promise to always be by her side. I promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

Meet Whiskey! We starting seeing him a year ago and he was very sick. We worked hard at Yorktown Animal Hospital but his owner worked even harder. She made sure to get pet insurance right from the beginning not knowing it would come in hand. Through different diagnostics and test we found out Whiskey has megaesophagus! Megaesophagus is when the esophagus dilates and loses motility its ability to move food into the stomach.
Whiskeys amazing owner did what any great dog parent would do and researched and found a custom made chair to help Whiskey eat! Whiskey is doing so much better today and is finally able to eat properly with his customized chair.
