It’s Ivy’s first birthday and we get to celebrate with her at the kennel🤩 We have had many firsts with this little lady, including today! Happy birthday spunky girl❣️ Just like every other day of your life, today is all about you🥰😂

We are lucky enough to have 4/5 pups board with us so far this year. You may not know it from their looks, but if you had to identify them based on their excited barks we’d never know who was who😂
We love getting to watch these 4, along with all the pups we’ve ever had, grow and come into their own sassy selves.

The month of May celebrates the tough jobs our humans do, the reason they’re late to their main job filling our bowls.
Teachers - training & educating future bowl fillers.
Hospital Staff - saving bowl fillers from leaving earth without fulfilling their duties to us.
Firefighters - saving us & our homes when the humans try to cook for anyone without paws.
Police Officers - keeping us safe from the bad bowl fillers.

Spring Cleaning, Sunday Reset, Another day in the life of dogs, whatever you want to call it.
One of the not so glamorous parts of dogs is the cleaning. Shedding season is here as most of you know, so before we did anything we pulled out all of the beds and bowls and vacuumed it all up. We like to spray everything down first before we add any products. Our go to is Kennelsol, a disinfectant that even tackles parvovirus.✨ Then we scrub. And scrub. And scrub… about 4 hours worth of labor condensed into a little over a minute for your viewing pleasure.🥲 Once it sits we go back after it with the power washer. We squeegee and vacuum up all the excess water and just like that we’re ready for it to be dirtied by a new furry friend.
But it looks so good for those sweet short moments.. even if they feel few and far between. It is SO important for the health and wellbeing of all the dogs that come in our doors, so it’s always worth it!

❄️❄️❄️Dog Weather Reminders❄️❄️❄️
• If you do not trust your dog 100% then PLEASE leash your dog. With these frigid temperatures the odds of a lost pet surviving the hours or days while you look for them are not promising.
• Protect their feet, if possible put on protective wear such as booties. Not only does it protect them from the temperatures, but also any salt or chemicals used to fight the elements.
• Bundle them up, put on their favorite sweater or snow suit.
• Look for signs of frostbite. Noses, tails, paws, and ears are good spots to check, look for white or blue skin.
• Be cautious of hypothermia, especially in older and younger pups, and those with short coats. If your dog does become too cold never use heating pads, they can burn them. Instead wrap them with blankets or towels and put warm water bottles next to them. The goal is gradual warmth not cold to hot. And always if you’re concerned, take them to the vet. Better safe than sorry.
• Rinse their paws after being outdoors, salt and other chemicals will make your dog sick when they try to clean off their paws themselves.
• Watch for Anti-freeze it is TOXIC to pets and is also unfortunately very appealing to them because it is sweet.
• Look for balls of ice or snow stuck between their toes, and in their fur. Not only is it painful but it can also cause matting which causes more problems down the road.
• If your dog is a breed that does enjoy the colder temperatures, be sure to check their water supply frequently.
• Be aware of ice patches when outside that can cause slips and injuries.
Things you may consider doing:
• Bathing your pet less frequently, over bathing can cause their skin to dry out. This can happen during warm weather, but even more so when it’s cold.
• Adding a humidifier to your house.
• Adding supplements to your dog’s food.
• Teaching your dog to use a treadmill.
• Creating enrichment games to help manage your dog’s energy
oEx) putting their kibble in a towel and rolling it up in knots and having them search for it. (Always supervise)
• Learn a new way to play with or train your dog, Youtube and TikTok have plenty of inspiration.
And make sure you always check in and under your cars for our kitty friends out there.
Loki wants you to know that even though it’s raining we still get plenty of exercise without turning into tumbling balls of mud.
We spend our breakfast trying different enrichment activities, learning place work, and for the nervous pups learning to trust the staff!
