Superheroes💥!?

Cats are known for being masters at hiding pain as a survival mechanism. This stoic instinct originated in the wild where cats were vulnerable to predators if they were injured or sick. Mother cats are the most notorious for their bravery by masking their discomfort to protect their young. 💕

Pain in cats is frequently seen with arthritis, kidney and dental disease. Let’s honor them for their heroism 😺 by recognizing the common signs of discomfort and schedule an exam with your veterinarian if these signs are noticed!

May 23rd is recognized as to not only show our love for turtles and tortoises but also to spread awareness of how we can protect them and their habitats. 🐢

Some quick safety tips!

🚷 If a tortoise is crossing a busy street, pick it up and send it in the same direction it was going!

🧪 Reduce the amount of chemicals you use on your lawn and in your home, these can wash into coastal waters affecting plants and animals!

♻️ Reduce the amount of garbage you produce and ensure that your recycles are cut up. Sea turtles can mistakes plastic bags, balloons, and fishing lines for food!

⚠️ Reduce your carbon footprint by using a refillable water bottle, switch to Green Energy, cut food waste, carpool, take shorter showers, and avoid plastic packaging!

At AMCC we recommend testing your pet for intestinal parasites bi-annually as suggested by the Companion Animal Parasite Council.

Our f***l testing includes antigen immunoassays for Cystoisospora, Hookworms, Roundworms, Tapeworms, Whipworms and f***l ova and parasites. 🪱

Over the last few months we have seen several positive f***ls! Our doctors suggest keeping your pet on a trusted flea, tick, and heartworm prevention to help reduce the risk of intestinal parasites. 🗓️

“My cat started having coughing spells. I thought she was trying to cough up a hairball. My veterinarian diagnosed her with Feline Asthma. I didn’t know cats could have such a thing!” -Concerned pet owner

Cat’s can indeed have asthma. In fact, Feline asthma affects a fair number of cats and is often associated with bronchitis. Asthma and bronchitis are typically considered as two parts of the same syndrome.

If the cats airways are sensitive to certain stimuli (dust🧹, scents🌸, smoke🚬, etc), exposure to those agents can cause an inflammatory response and the cat will experience bronchial spasms, increased mucus production and more, possibly leading to recurring secondary respiratory infections.

Know the signs!
🫁 Difficult breathing or wheezing
🫁 Increased respiratory effort
🫁 Coughing spells
🫁 Open-mouth breathing

Don’t let those cooler days fool you, the temperature inside a car 🚕 increases within minutes!

Symptoms of heat stroke in dogs include:
☀️Heavy panting or difficulty breathing
☀️Rapid heart rate
☀️Vomiting
☀️Diarrhea
☀️Dehydration
☀️Bright red gums
☀️Seizures
☀️Collapsing
