When we get a comment like “your charging way to much” or “you charge more than my hairstylist does”.

THIS is why….even though we don’t even charge the “national average” for our industry and qualifications.

This work is not easy and is very risky, one bite could literally land us in the hospital and possibly destroy our career. But we do it because we love it and want to help as many cat’s and their owners as possible. ❤️

Also, bites are NOT less dangerous if a cat is vaccinated we can still end up in the hospital ileven if a vaccinated cat bites us.

Did you know that the “goosebumps” you feel whenever you’re cold or creeped out are actually due to your hair follicles contracting and relaxing? This phenomenon is possible due to tiny little muscles attached to hair follicles known as arrector pili.

Ever see your cat “puff up”? This reaction is actually referred to as piloerection, and it helps signal to other cats that they are defensively aggressive as well as help with thermoregulation.

Your next logical question may be, does shaving hurt that muscle?

The answer is no.

Dog groomers have made claims that shaving damages the arrector pili muscles and increases the risk of alopecia.

However, according to our own cumulative professional research, experience, and Dr. Hnilica of the “Itch Clinic” (Allergy and Dermatology Center in Tennessee) and Dr. Patterson Chief of Dermatology (College of Veterinary Medicine + Biological Sciences at Texas A&M University), this is simply not true.

While post-clipping alopecia can be an issue with canines, it is not a dermatologically recognized concern or peer-reviewed issue with felines.

Cat skin thickness varies depending on the location of their body, breed, and age. The thickest of the skin is typically on the back and neck, becoming thinner towards the abdomen. On average, the feline epidermis ranges anywhere between 0.3 to 0.5mm thick. The arrector pili is located in the dermis layer of the skin, and is usually between 0.4 to 2mm thick.

The standard blade length for shaving a sanitary, belly, or lion cut shave is a #10 blade, which leaves the coat anywhere between 1.5mm to 1.8mm long. For reference, it’s longer than most women want their leg hair.

It’s fascinating to consider how even though cats and dogs are both domesticated animals—they are two totally different species and health and hygiene are not always interchangeable between them!
