This July, instead of purchasing fireworks that are dangerous to our pets, veterans, and the environment, please consider donating to our Sweet Paws Retreat Pet Food Drive.
We will be collecting bagged food, canned food, or feeding supplies all month long that will then be donated to a local shelter at the end of the month. We have seen the generosity and care for animals from our pet parents and community during our annual Toy Drive, so we know we can make a difference in the lives of pets this July.
As a "THANK YOU" to each of you, for each donation item, your pet will receive an enrichment that you can use during the month of July during a daycare or boarding stay. We have so many great options: Pup Cups, Crafts, lick mats, etc., that there is something for everyone to be excited about.

At Sweet Paws Retreat, we care about all animals and we consider them all part of our family. And as we approach the holiday, please be mindful of how Fireworks impact your pets and how this holiday has the highest number of runaway dogs.

Please read below and consider these points as well.

1. Spotify or iTunes has hundreds of dog playlists for dog anxiety, some even geared towards fireworks.
2. It's best to have all dogs chipped, but if you can't get that completed and don't have a tag with your dog's name on it already. A piece of tape with your name, phone number, and address written on it, folded around your dog's collar, will help get them back to you if they get out.
3. Please be careful when opening doors/gates for family/friend events. Dogs that normally don't run out of an open door might if they are experiencing high anxiety.
4. Supervise dogs when they go out to potty. Dogs that are experiencing high anxiety might pull loose tie downs, jump fences, or find ways out of a yard that they would not normally even consider.

Fireworks can be terrifying for all pets, so please consider all your animals in your care. Many of these tips below will help other pets as well.
