Sexing

Looking at the fish from above, the female is widest at the center of the body, while the male is widest just behind the pectoral fins.
When they are well fed or in breeding condition the female is always plumper, also seen from the side.

Males are normally smaller and have longer pectoral fins than females. Their pelvic (ventral) fins are more pointed.
Females are normally larger, have rounded pectoral fin. Their pelvic (ventral) fins are rounded to form a pouch for the eggs when spawning.

Mastacembelus erythrotaenia One of our favorite aquarium fish… Fire eels are very peaceful and have amazing colors, not to mention great personalities. Feeding mainly on Bloodworms (fresh or frozen) other foods such as krill or Plankton can be also be added to their diet. They are a great addition to the community aquarium, but should not be kept with very small fish(1 inch) as they may add them to their diet.

Strict Herbivore diet. Spirulina veggie flakes works best. Feed light feedings 2 times a day. Use aquarium lights that are set on a timer and feed them the same time everyday. Water changes weekly are a must with tropheus. Tropheus do not like changes. Always do water changes and feedings on a schedule. Please do plenty of research on tropheus. Knowledge is always best to have great success with tropheus.

Water temperature: Keep the water temperature between 64°F and 75°F, and avoid exceeding 80°F for long periods. You can also provide a cooler period of a couple of weeks a year, down to 60°F.

Water parameters: Keep nitrate levels below 50mg/L, and change 20–30% of the water each month.

Tank size: The aquarium should be well-structured and not too small. For a group of at least six fish, the aquarium should be at least 120 liters.

Tankmates: Peaceful fish that are non-aggressive are suitable tankmates.

Diet: You can feed them frozen, dry, or live food.

Social: They are social fish that prefer to live in groups. Lonely fish can become stressed and more susceptible to disease.

Territorial: Males can be territorial and create their own territories.

Rarity: This species is rare in the aquarium trade, so you might need to contact specialized clubs to get one.

Characidium fasciatum are native to the São Francisco and upper Paraná River drainages in Brazil.

Orange Rabbit Snail

Species: Tylomelania gemmifera

Size

Giant Sulawesi snails are one of the largest freshwater snails in the hobby, sometimes reaching 4 inches in length as full-grown adults. Since these snails are large and need room to move, it's a good idea to avoid dense vegetation or overcrowding in your aquarium.

Recommended Tank Parameters

pH level range: 7.5 to 8.5
Temperature range: 78° to 82° F
Water type: kH 2-15
Note from the owner: Snails are very sensitive to copper, so watch out for copper if you use tap water in your tank. They also need a decent amount of calcium in their water to maintain their shell health, which can be helped by feeding the snails foods rich in calcium (such as kale, spinach, and other greens), by floating a cuttle bone in the water, or by using additives.

Feeding

Sulawesi snails eat algae, plant matter, and invertebrate pellets, and they have also been known to munch on plants, such as Java Ferns. They are efficient at cleaning up waste in aquariums because they feed on leftover food or almost any kind of fish food.

Warning! Avoid any food product, medication, or plant fertilizer that contains Copper of any form. Copper is toxic to invertebrates. Many commercial fish foods, medications, and plant fertilizers contain copper or more commonly copper sulfate. Always look at the ingredient list for any product going into the aquarium to ensure they are copper free.

Breeding

Giant Sulawesi snails are known to breed in home freshwater aquariums in ideal water conditions, but at an extremely slow rate. Thus, they tend to never create an overpopulation problem in tanks. Their method of reproduction is quite unique – the male will impregnate a female, and embryos will form in a pouch inside of the shell, where they can feed from the female's nutrients. Once the embryos have properly developed, the mother will expel 1 to 3 egg sacs into the water at a time. The white casing on the eggs will soon dissolve to reveal a perfect miniature versions of the adult snails.

Red Zebra Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus)

This is an unusual color strain that I had not seen before. Hobbyists in the Cleveland area seemed to like them quite a lot. So before I ran out of them, I thought I would include them in the New and Rare part of the auction. I hope you like them too.
