The holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but they can also pose unexpected dangers for our furry friends. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and healthy:

1. Toxic Treats to Avoid:

Chocolate: Contains theobromine, which is toxic to pets. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are especially dangerous.

Xylitol: This sweetener, found in sugar-free gum and baked goods, can cause severe hypoglycemia in dogs.

Fatty Foods: Table scraps like turkey skin, gravy, or buttery dishes can cause pancreatitis.

Bones: Cooked bones can splinter and cause choking or intestinal blockages.

Onions and Garlic: Common in holiday dishes, they can damage red blood cells and lead to anemia.

Alcohol: Even small amounts can be toxic to pets, leading to dangerous drops in blood sugar, temperature, and blood pressure.

2. Decorations:

Tinsel & Ribbons: Cats are particularly attracted to these shiny items, but swallowing them can cause intestinal blockages.

Ornaments: Glass ornaments can break and injure paws or mouths, while edible ones can tempt pets to climb the tree.

Holiday Plants: Poinsettias, mistletoe, and holly can be toxic if ingested, causing vomiting or other serious symptoms.

3. Holiday Stress:
New visitors, loud celebrations, and changes in routine can stress your pets. Provide them with a quiet, safe space to retreat when needed.

4. Trash Troubles:
Holiday leftovers and wrappings can end up in the trash, tempting curious pets. Be sure to secure garbage bins to prevent accidental ingestion.

Keeping these precautions in mind can help ensure the holidays are merry and safe for the entire family—furry members included! 🎄🐾

The holidays are right around the corner! Whether you’re traveling or booking grooming, boarding, or day-care for your pet, you may need updated vaccine records—and now accessing them is easier than ever! You can request and access your pet's vaccine records from your Heartwood App, even if we are closed:

Go to your pet's profile
Click the About tab > "Request Record"
Choose which type of record you need
Selecting Vaccination Summary will generate a shareable PDF that will be delivered immediately to the email of your choice
We can still send full medical records if necessary if you select "Other"

We hope this speeds up your check-in process with your grooming, boarding, and day-care facilities.
