As we bid a fond farewell to Dr. Drew, who has happily retired this month, we’re thrilled to introduce our newest team member, Dr. Mary Kathryn (MK) Godley! 🎉

Originally from New Iberia, Louisiana, Dr. Godley’s journey took her from Mississippi State University to a passion for companion animal medicine, internal medicine, and client education. She’s excited to be back in Louisiana and can’t wait to meet all of your fur babies!

When she’s not caring for your pets, Dr. Godley is enjoying life with her three rescue pups, cat Polly, and her family. Join us in giving Dr. Godley a warm welcome! 💙

Let's talk Heartworms ❤️‍🩹

Those little, wiggly, white swirls in the microscope video are called Microfilaria. This is one of two heartworm tests we run when we pull blood for your dog's annual wellness visit. This is a sample taken from a dog who missed prevention and is now heartworm positive.
Heartworms are transmitted by 🦟mosquitoes and both 🐶dogs and 🐱cats can have heartworms but, unfortunately, there is no treatment option for cats. The best thing you can do for your furry companions is keep them on consistent heartworm prevention🛡.

📅It takes up to 6 months from the time of an infected mosquito bite to test positive for heartworms so if you know your pet has missed a dose, it is important to contact our office to resume prevention and schedule a heartworm test.

There may be no signs at all in the early stages, but you can watch for the following symptoms if you know your pet has missed a dose:
😷Coughing
🥴Lethargy
🤢Decreased Appetite
😮‍💨Shortness of Breath
