This dog is the perfect example of why we do what we do:

A customer brought this poor boy in to us after finding him as a stray a few days prior.

Upon opening the kennel which he was brought in, he immediately started snapping at us to leave him alone. He didn't even want to be touched. So, we carefully lassoed a slip lead around his neck to pull him out, and he was so anxious he relieved himself on the floor and then proceeded to eat through our leash. We then had to acquire a new leash that he couldn't chew through and started all over again.

He then rolled over in fear/submission and wouldn't even move at all. So, very gently we started touching him in different places to see how he'd react. Doing that, we came to the realization that he probably had never even had a collar or leash on and that was what he was reacting to most, since he was only a little flinchy and seemed sort of okay with our touch.

We then decided to see how he'd react to the clipper noises and vibrations on him, since we had no idea what his past experiences with grooming had been. Sometimes dogs, especially in this kind of condition, will react right away by snapping or biting at us or our tools. But, he actually didn't seem to be too bothered by that either, thankfully, no more than he was by our hands.

So, we slowly and carefully started chipping away at all of his horrible matts... while just kneeling and/or sitting on the floor with him the whole time, where he was most comfortable at, and trying not to do anything that would set him off.

Two very patient groomers and two very intense hours later, we finally completed the process, with him even getting a bath! And by the end of it all, he was giving us all the cuddles he could and was just laying around in our lap.

PS. Finders are likely unable to keep, so this sweet boy is going to be in need of a new home where he will get all of the love, attention, and grooming he should. If you or anyone you know may be interested, please contact us! We want to help him find the family that he deserves to have!

Two sweet babies we groomed today.

One picture is Naruto. He's a mixed breed of a short hair and long hair guinea pig, and that's why only some parts of his hair grows long, and the rest of it stays short like it is. We just trimmed up the long hairs to more closely match the short hairs to keep him with a more natural look.

The other picture is Smores, and he is a long, curly hair breed called a texel. His hair continually grows throughout his life, just like ours does... meaning that he needs regular haircuts just like us! They wanted him much shorter and easier to take care of, so we used a clip comb in a shorter length to achieve his look.

They both did great! But, we especially loved little Smores, as he was such a good boy throughout the whole process. It's not particularly easy for a guinea pig to get a full haircut, and he tolerated it really well! 💕

Spoiling your babies is what we do. We even have treats for the less common pets we groom, such as sweet Peanut here! Getting ear massages while snacking on some timothy hay... 💕

Most adorable dog of the day goes to little Penny here. She is a young Havanese puppy. She actually weighs less than one of my guinea pigs... and she is also shorter than the pair of clippers she was groomed with... that's how tiny she is. 😂

The bath tub got a much needed face lift over the last few days... we've been planning to do this pretty much since we first opened, and just finally made it happen this last weekend!

It went from an old rusting "silver vein" coating (with bricks and electrical boxes for feet, thanks to the previous owner 🤣) to a gorgeous, like new "copper vein" (with real actual leveling feet, too) that also happens to fit much better with the shop decor!

We're so happy that it's all finished and that we're back to working on the pups again today!! 💕

If you're considering a new furry friend, please go check out MCACC and adopt one from there! There are so many poor, sweet babies needing families this time of year... around 800 at just MCACC alone! It's absolutely insane that that many dogs are homeless, and unfortunately, it's not really uncommon for the shelter to be so overwhelmed with animals that they don't even have room for them all until they can find them homes. 😢😭😭

MCACC reported Monday that it has nearly 800 dogs in its care, with more than 140 of them coming into the shelter since Friday.

Sweet Lizzie, the foster dog, got all beautified yesterday! 😍

She'll be getting spayed soon and will be ready for her furever home within the next few weeks. She's young, they're guessing around a year to year and a half old...

She's such a doll! She just needs to be loved and spoiled a little bit!!

Why is it always the last dogs of the Christmas season that are the biggest?! 🤣

This is Dulce, a Great Pyrenees mix. She's a very large dog and she had a ton of extra undercoat that we had to remove. This is not a fast process... approximately five man hours were put in to just this one groom!

But, boy, what a difference! Isn't she one gorgeous dog?! 😍

We forgot to post about this sweet, shy little dude the other day when we groomed him.

His name is Samson.

He's a rescue dog, currently in foster care, and he's looking for a Christmas miracle!

He needs a forever home where he can feel safe and loved, so that he will come out of his shell a little bit.

This is Dakota. He is a bernadoodle. This was his first ever big boy haircut. He is still a bit of a wiggly puppy, so his clip didn't turn out exactly perfect. But, we think he's still a very handsome guy! 😍

Bentley sure was a big boy! Here he is before and after his groom...

He goes to a professional groomer for a routine touch-up every month or so... although, it was his first time specifically with us. He'd had a bad experience in the recent past, so we think he still did pretty well, especially being in an unfamiliar environment and never having worked with us.

He and mom must have felt really good about it, as well, since they've already booked his next appointment! 😊
