Baby goat update!
After about 30 seconds of looking at them, our vet determined that both of them are completely blind! So many of their antics immediately made sense. We have never seen blind goats with totally normal looking eyes, so we totally overlooked it. They are eating like champs, and getting stronger everyday. They are also on some antibiotics to clear up their slightly raspy breathing. They are getting physical therapy several times a day, and we are hopeful that their mobility continues to improve. We have named them Kuzco and Yzma, and are completely smitten.

Someone called yesterday and said their goat had 2 babies 4 days ago. Apparently mom didn't reject them or anything, but they said mom would take a step away when they would try to nurse, so instead of helping, she just took them from the mom... Surprise surprise, they aren't doing well. Mom had never been vaccinated, they didn't iodine the umbilical cords, they are extremelly thin, and they were carrying them around in a milk crate. Poor things can't even stand on their own... At first we were worried about possible Teta**s, as they lock up all of their limbs, but luckily they aren't running a fever. The little girl also has one cloudy eye, and the boy has small spasms. If you don't know what you're doing, don't wait 4 days to call for help! It's been a long night of no sleep, but the babies have been eating good through the night, they got some selenium, and we started on physical therapy. Our vet will be here later today. Really hoping these lil' nuggets pull through.

Another piggie saved from Devores red list! We are fostering this boy for a couple weeks, and getting him ready for a road trip. He will be getting neutered on Friday, and will then have a week to recover before heading to his new home in Idaho!
Huge thank you to for transporting him to us, especially after he wouldn't fit in the crate! To for making a ramp on the fly to unload him, and to for coordinating his rescue!

Peter Pan was seen by Dr. Gertz at yesterday. X-rays showed he had 2 breaks. They were set and he will have a cast for the next 6 weeks, but he should make a full recovery. He's such a sweet boy, and we are so grateful we were able to save him. He has a neuter appointment scheduled for Monday as well.
We couldn't do what we do without you guys and your support! šŸ«¶šŸ»

We did everything we could...

On Wednesday afternoon, we said goodbye to Pepito. Despite a hopeful prognosis and a real chance at a happy life, his infection spread into his bloodstream, and his little body couldnā€™t keep fighting. We are heartbroken. šŸ’”

Some may wonder why we fight so hard for animals in such bad shape. The answer is simple: because they deserve to live. Pepito had a will to survive, the vet thought he had a chance at a normal life and his pain was managed with medication. He wasnā€™t just a body in distressā€”he was a soul who wanted more time. He deserved a chance, and we gave it to him.

Not every animal can be saved, and not every family has the means to pursue extensive medical care. We donā€™t judge those hard decisions. But when an animal does have a chanceā€”when theyā€™re fighting to live, their pain is manageable, and the right support can give them a good lifeā€”we believe they deserve that chance. Pepito wasnā€™t just a case. He was a life that mattered.

This belief extends beyond animal rescue. The way we see and care for animals who need extra support is deeply connected to how we treat people with disabilities. Too often, society devalues those who need medical care, accommodations, or a little extra help to thrive. But needing support shouldnā€™t make a life less worthy. Whether human or animal, no one should be dismissed simply because they donā€™t fit a narrow definition of "normal."

Rescue isnā€™t just about saving livesā€”itā€™s about shifting perspectives. Itā€™s about challenging the idea that only the healthy, the easy, the "perfect" are worth fighting for. And we canā€™t do it alone. Every act of kindness, every donation, every bit of support helps give animals like Pepito love, dignity, and the best possible chanceā€”no matter how long they have.

Rest easy, sweet Pepito. You were loved, and you mattered.

We just received a call from our vet about a mini Shetland ram with a broken hind leg. His owners, who were going to use him for breeding, can't afford any veterinary care for him, and they want to surrender him to us. With all of our medical bills as of late, we would need to raise some funds to be able to take this boy on. Our vet can come as soon as tomorrow if we can make this happen! He's only 1 years old, and we know he can have such a bright future ahead of him...

4 piggies arrived over the weekend, just in time for National Pig Day! These nuggets are from the same hoarding/neglect case that Tinkerbell, Katie, and Charity came from. We are so grateful that once they are done quarantining, 2 will be going to and 2 will be going to ! There are still over 20 pigs on that property that need out asap, so if want to adopt, please reach out!

It's never ending! šŸ˜“
We were reached out to yesterday about a goat that "had blisters all over him." We waited on photos and finally got them this morning. This poor little boy looks like he has the worst skin condition we've seen (possibly Orf), and who knows what else. The neighbor that reached out finally got the owner to surrender him (he raises them for meat...). We need to get him out to UC Davis asap, and we have a transporter that will do it for $450 on Sunday morning. generously offered to cover his medical expenses, if we can just get transport covered. I know many of you already donated to our recent sheep emergency, and we hate to ask more of you, but if we can get even half of the transport covered, we can make this happen! Consider donating this Valentines Day, for the cost of a cup of coffee, you can make a huge difference!

Sheep Update!
As many of you know, we took in 2 sheep a few days ago, after one of them was attacked by a wild/stray dog. Her tail and back end were mangled, and our worst fear was that the damage included her a**s, which would have likely meant there was nothing that could be done. We knew there was exposed tail bone, and with all the wool, it was impossible to tell exactly what we were looking at.
Our vet made it out yesterday to assess, and although we remained hopeful, there was a sinking feeling in my gut all day, awaiting her prognosis. After shaving the area, and getting a better look, we were beyond relieved to find out that her b***y hole was untouched. All the hanging tissue we were looking at, was from her tail. It appears that the dog grabbed her tail, and split it right down the middle, exposing her tailbone and leaving flesh hanging on both sides. She is going to have a long road to recovery, but she is not giving up yet, and neither are we. She will be getting her wound cleaned, and topical ointment put on twice a day. She will also be receiving antibiotic and pain injections daily. When examining her, we also found that she is infested with lice, so we have started them both on treatment for that as well. Our vet took blood and f***l samples, and we are awaiting those results.
We are so grateful to have an amazing vet, that gave us a significant discount on yesterday's visit, totalling in at $345. If you would like to donate towards this survivor, we would be beyond grateful. Without you guys, we couldn't take on cases like these, and save the lives that we do.
Thank you again to everyone who helped get them here, if we didn't act fast, we can confidently say they wouldn't be alive today.
