Tips From The Training Yard:
Calmly Removing Your Dog From A Potentially Provoking Stimulus
Your dog depends on you! Show them that you will help them by navigating potential problem situations calmly with an About Turn.
You can add the universal flat palm gesture indicating that you will not be engaging if you encounter a person, typically with an overexcited dog dragging them forward toward you!
Pass your leash in front of you to your opposite hand, turn your body toward your dog. Allow them to travel behind you. Pass the leash behind you as you pivot 180*s. Your dog will be on their heel side as you calmly walk in the opposite direction.
Practice in a non distracting environment first. You will feel more confident once you master this skill and that emotion can be shared with you dog! Try it!
The 2nd Annual Boo Barn Ranch fundraiser is tonight between 4-6pm. There will be light refreshments, a costume parade and contest and a silent auction! Here's a glimpse of the things that will be available! There will be items from local artists as well! We will have special guests from the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter too! Don't miss it! Fun AND a fabulous cause!
Jade is back! She will complete basic obedience and move into intermediate level obedience!
The group worked on a focus exercise. We introduced recall. The dogs reviewed heel and we talked about developing an automatic sit/stay when the handler stops walking.
Gorgeous weather, beautiful location, happy handlers and super students!
