Back to the ER we go….

Levi update~

Levi started coughing excessively this evening. Since he just had major surgery and is recovering from pneumonia we weren’t taking any chances. Levi was rushed back to the ER.

More x-rays were taken of Levi’s chest and thankfully the pneumonia is looking better. Unfortunately Levi has tested positive for the canine coronavirus.

Levi has been released from the hospital. He is on antibiotics and will be back for a recheck this weekend.

Please keep Levi in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from major surgery, pneumonia and now the canine coronavirus.

The overwhelming response to our plea for help has been nothing short of a miracle. In less than 5 days we have received 131 donations totaling $14,442.00 for Levi’s medical. 𝐖𝐎𝐖!
His final bill was $15,016.47.

We have received donations from people in Ireland, Germany, Spain, France, Canada, British Columbia, and all across the United States. The outpouring of love for Levi has touched all of our hearts.

We had believed Levi was hit by a vehicle. After numerous x-rays and talking to the doctors we no longer know what happened to Levi. It was discovered through x-rays that Levi not only has recent breaks, but older ones too. How does a one year old dog already have this many fractures?

While we will never know what happened in Levi’s past we do know his future is looking brighter. Levi is now out of the hospital and in a foster home recovering from his surgeries. He is happy to be out of the hospital and in a home with squishy pillows, blankets, and a human to cater to his every need.

All of us at Red River Old English Sheepdog Rescue feel incredibly blessed to have the support of so many. Without the help of each of you we could not rescue these dogs. Every donation, no matter how small helps us continue to rescue this majestic breed.

Sheepdogs are unlike any other breed. The people who love them are also one of a kind. They love unconditionally, they help when others would walk away, they understand the sheepdog is a clown like bundle of energy that explode in excitement each time we walk through the door. They know how to laugh when a sheepdog runs through the biggest mud hole they can find. They support each other in all endeavors and help us with words of encouragement, and prayers of hope and faith.

Calling All Angels 😇

Levi Update! Please share 🐾

Levi’s surgery to repair the fractures in his pelvic went well. The two x-rays show the plate & screws and the (FHO) Femoral Head Ostectomy that was done.

Last night his respiratory rate increased. At 5:00 am this morning his temperature began to elevate. They took x-rays and there is patchy increase opacity in the cranial lung fields. It is unclear if this is due to increased visualization due to mild pneumomediastinum vs increased opacity within the lungs from contusion vs pneumonia vs other.

Levi is being kept in the critical care unit where he is being monitored 24/7. He will remain in the hospital until everything has stabilized.

Please keep Levi in your thoughts and prayers, and know the doctors are doing everything possible for him.

Levi has been admitted to the hospital and is being prepped for surgery tomorrow. He will be having surgery to repair the 3 pelvic fractures, the open wounds on both of his back legs, and trauma to his left testicle.

The urgent care vet Levi was taken to on Saturday cost $1,534.81. His surgery scheduled for tomorrow is $13,372.70. That does not include any unforeseen problems that may occur.

Levi was rescued from high kill Downey shelter yesterday in Los Angeles, CA. He is one of the bravest boys we have ever met. Levi came in to the shelter on Sunday, as a stray, terribly matted and with severe injuries. (Most likely hit by a car) He is only 1. 😢

Levi was sent for X-rays 3 days later. It was found he has a fractured ilium (pelvis) He was sent back to the shelter with limited painkillers. Levi was left there in an outdoor kennel, on a cold cement floor with no medical care for 3 more days. That is exactly where we found him Saturday morning. 💔 There was no question about what to do next. Levi was rescued by Red River and rushed straight to the emergency vet. It was found that Levi in fact, has 3 pelvic fractures, untreated open wounds to both his back legs, and trauma to his left testicle. We cannot even imagine the pain Levi was in or how scared he was, laying in that noisy kennel on a cold cement floor, injured, untreated, and all alone….and yet…he kept fighting.

Levi is safe, but needs the help of our entire sheepie community to rally around him to get the emergency surgery he needs so that he can have the beautiful life that he deserves…the second chance he’s fighting so hard to hold on for.

Available for Adoption, this beautiful boy is located in Fort Worth, Texas.

Oreo is approximately 4-5 years old. This happy, sweet boy loves playing with other dogs. He is housebroken, and knows how to use a doggy door. He is crate trained and enjoys going for walks and riding in vehicles. He likes to snuggle and sleep in the bed beside you. Oreo loves toys and carries his stuffed animals around the house.

Oreo has one blue eye, and one brown eye along with a docked tail. He has a wonderful disposition and loves everyone he meets.

This blue eyed beauty is ready for his forever home.

Absolutely adorable this 2 year old is housebroken, crate trained, loves other dogs, kids, walks well on a leash, and is an absolute delight to have around.

Available for adoption is this adorable 6 year old sheepie. Located in Yukon, Oklahoma Chewy was an owner surrender to a shelter in a small town in Oklahoma. Chewy’s owner had become ill and could no longer care for him.

Chewy loves toys! He likes to play tug-of-war and run around in the backyard while you chase him. He is an active sheepie who will follow you absolutely everywhere! If you stand, he will stand, if you move an inch he is going to move an inch. He is the true definition of a Velcro dog.

Chewy knows how to use a doggy door and has never had an accident in his fosters home. If you do not have a doggy door then you will need to work with him on telling you when he needs to go outside. Chewy likes to go for long walks and enjoys car rides. He is very sweet and loves to cuddle. Chewy does not need to be crated but can be if needed.

With his big beautiful brown eyes this guy is hard to resist. It was originally thought Chewy would do best as the only dog in the home, but recently he has been in a home with another sheepdog and is doing very well.
