HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE, 10/9/2024, 8:30 AM:

***THIS IS NOT AN EVACUATION ORDER***

Based on forecasted impacts, Nassau County Emergency Management, STRONGLY ENCOURAGES the following residents to shelter at a safe location or a designated shelter.

- Individuals that have power dependent special needs
- Individuals who reside in low lying or flood prone areas
- Individuals in Zone A (more directly those who reside near dunes that could be breached, those who reside on marsh front or intracoastal front property - special attention to Crane Island and Egans Creek)
-Individuals in Zone D ( more directly those who reside on marsh front property or intracoastal front property - special attention to Piney Island and the Holly Point area)
- Individuals who do not feel safe at their place of residence

If you do not have a safe location to shelter, a shelter is available at Wildlight Elementary, 550 Curiosity Ave, Yulee, FL 32097. This shelter will accept the general population, special needs residents, and pets with Rabies vaccinations.

🔸 If you intend on going to the shelter, ensure you bring the following items with you:
Blankets & pillows
Clothing
Mobility equipment
Medications
Food and snacks
Personal hygiene items

🔸Pet owners should bring:
Secure crate
Pet food and bowls
Leash, collar or harness
Litter box
Proof of rabies vaccination

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Milton!
At this time we plan on remaining open. Stay tuned for any updates to our schedule as we continue to monitor the next few days.

STORM UPDATE, 10/7/2024, 9:30 am:
This morning, we participated in a call with the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida regarding Hurricane Milton. Here is what you need to know:
🟥 Milton continues to strengthen, currently a Category 3 with 120 mph winds
🟥 Milton is moving slowly east-southeast at 8 mph, its speed is expected to increase in the coming days
🟥 Do not focus on Milton's exact track. Impacts can occur well outside the area enclosed by the cone
🟥 Milton is expected to make landfall as a major hurricane and will then traverse the Florida Peninsula, gradually expanding during its passage
🟥 Anticipated impacts include include storm force winds, river flooding, flooding rainfall, and dangerous marine conditions
🟥 If you flooded during Matthew, Irma, or Nicole, you should anticipate the possibility of flooding again
🟥 The most likely time of arrival of tropical storm force winds for our area is Wednesday afternoon
🟥 Sandbags will be made available. The County is meeting at 10 am this morning to discuss. Location and hours will be announced this morning
🟥 The opening of a shelter is likely. The timing of the opening will be announced sometime today
🟥 We are working closely with the Nassau County School District. They will announce any closures if necessary

HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE - 2pm 9/26

Hurricane Helene continues to push ever so slightly to the east. These movements have increased the potential for strong tropical force winds throughout the area along with a significant threat for tornadoes.

Now is the time to move to your place of shelter while the weather is still clear enough to do so.

Quickly complete any last-minute preparations that you may have for your home and property.

Please heed the advice and information we are providing. Your safety is our upmost concern.

Nassau County currently has one shelter open:

If transportation is needed please contact the EOC at 904-548-0900 to arrange
