The pigs dug in extra deep tonight. You can barely see the back of one of them by Peanut Butter. Most people don’t know that pigs will build a nest and cover themselves up so I love to highlight this every winter.

🌟 Get Ready for the Ultimate Farm Camp Experience! 🌟

Every day at camp is packed with hands-on farm adventures! 🐾 From feeding and petting our adorable animals to exploring hidden corners of the farm that most visitors never get to see, your child will have a one-of-a-kind experience. We kick off the week with a Monday farm tour, introducing campers to their new furry (or feathery!) friends. As the week unfolds, we’ll foster each child’s natural curiosity by giving them extra time with their favorite animals and even trying out a farm chore or two.

Bottle Baby Alert! 🍼 The last two summers, we’ve had visiting baby goats, and we anticipate their return this year! Your child will have the rare chance to bottle-feed these sweet babies—an unforgettable highlight of the week.

But that’s not all! Kids will enjoy daily playtime on the playground, exciting group games like hide-and-seek, and team challenges that build camaraderie. Each day, we’ll balance the fun with creative crafts and activities—from making jam and no-bake treats to learning cool skills from special guests. Imagine your child learning from a professional horse trainer, a farrier, a retired Army vet teaching about snakes and knot-tying, or an RN sharing first-aid tips.

🌳 Explore Nature & Learn About the World Around Us 🌳
Every moment on the farm is a chance to discover something new! Whether it’s observing insects, spotting tiny frogs and salamanders, or learning which animals eat the plants around us, kids will connect with nature in a meaningful way. We also encourage kind and inclusive interactions with their peers, fostering lifelong friendships.

On hot days, we’ll cool off with the sprinklers and enjoy refreshing popsicles every afternoon! If it rains, we have a cozy workshop and barn for crafts, activities, and even the occasional movie to wind down after a fun-filled day.

✨ A Camp Designed for Your Child ✨
This is our third summer of camp, and each year, kids leave tired but eager to return the next day! This year, we’re adding more flexibility to our plans, tailoring activities to the unique interests and skill sets of the children attending. Older campers (around 12 years old) often take on the role of camp helpers, giving them a sense of pride and leadership while helping younger campers grow.

Don’t forget bathing suits for the sprinklers (or a change of clothes) and leave those devices at home—we promise they won’t miss them!

Spaces fill up fast, so reserve your spot now!
We can’t wait to welcome your child to a week of unforgettable farm fun. 🌞

Camp is $249 per week for children ages 6-12 and lasts from 9:00am to 5:00pm with early drop off (8:30) as an option. Deposit of $50 is due now to hold your spot with the balance due by 3/15/25. Register and pay the $50 deposit by 2/28/25 and your child will receive a free farm t-shirt!

We love recommending Rustic Root out of Bunn! There are so many well kept secrets out this way. Y’all, Zebulon and Bunn are NOT that far away. I realize it takes you 15 minutes to drive 3 miles in town. 😂. Plan a date night and include a RESERVATION at the Rustic Root. Our next Painting With Goats is March 15th! Our visit them after loving on Milkshake for an early Valentine’s Feb 8th but you will need reservations with them!

Dear Rustic Roots in Bunn, NC,

Let’s talk about how you took a little spot in Bunn and turned it into a full-blown culinary love letter. I walked in for dinner and left in a relationship.

First, the salad. Y’all, this wasn’t just some leafy green afterthought—it was fresh, vibrant, and dressed like it had somewhere important to be. The kind of salad that makes you question why you don’t eat more salads, only to remember they’re not all made this well.

Then, the bread. Juicy bread. I don’t even know if “juicy” is supposed to describe bread, but here we are. It was soft, warm, and practically begging for a lifetime commitment. The butter spread on it was so silky, it deserves its own Netflix special.

The steak? Say no more. Cooked to perfection, it was so tender I didn’t need a knife—I could’ve cut it with a sharp look. Every bite was a celebration of juicy, beefy goodness, with a sear that tasted like it was grilled by someone who really loves their job.

But the real MVP? The brown butter cake with ice cream. It wasn’t just dessert; it was an event. That cake was moist (yeah, I said it), with this deep, nutty sweetness that made my taste buds sing. Pair it with the creamy ice cream melting over the top, and suddenly, I forgot about the world outside. Honestly, if you’re not ending your meal with this cake, what are you even doing?

Rustic Roots, you’ve got it figured out. From start to finish, this meal was a masterpiece. Bunn might be small, but y’all are serving up big-time flavor.

Sincerely,
We’re all Bunnions at The Root

The history of our farm name. We bought this farm in 2020, during Covid. Psalm 91 brought me comfort during that time. The fact that our chickens have feathers on their feet and that the long hair on Doodles legs are also called “Feathers” made it feel very fitting. I had no idea we would later become a petting farm.

Sometimes it’s hard to find that dwelling place with the Lord…sometimes you are there every day. Just continue to seek it.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
