We traveled up to Performance Bred Golden Retrievers this weekend for the SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES finale.

We didn’t have a great showing (7th of 35 dogs) but it was just enough points for us to earn 🥈 in the standings over the course of 7 trials making Xena the SEC Series Reserve Champion. 🏆

We wish to congratulate Jason Hanley on winning it with Cowboy and Billy Brooks for wining 3rd with Cocoa.

We truly enjoyed all of the competition and camaraderie over the last few months. Thanks to all who made it possible! Bonnie Fain Roach did such a great job putting it all together and keeping us organized. All the trial host treated us very well. Already looking forward to next years series of trials.

If you’re interested in being a part of this please reach out and let me know. We will get you all the info you need.

After a few weeks off we were back at it this past weekend for the Eastern Carolina Field Trial Club trials at Cottle Branch Shooting Preserve.

On Saturday, Tux was able to win one of the Amateur trials. 🥇

On Sunday, Xena won the Open trial. 🥇

Xena’s win allowed her to earn her second Open Championship, making her a 4x UFTA Champion. 🙏🏼

Next weekend we head to PBG Kennels in Stoneville, NC for the SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES finale. We look forward to being able to compete with some of the best dogs and handlers in the region, and getting the opportunity to hang out with good people and good friends!

We traveled down to Alabama this weekend for ABDF Nationals. We were able make the finals, and are thankful for that. We actually had the fastest run of the day in qualifying at 3 minutes 37 seconds. However, both Xena and I made some mistakes in our finals run and weren’t able to make it happen this time. Nonetheless, it was really fun getting to compete with some of the best dogs and handlers in the country.

We wish to offer a very big CONGRATULATIONS to our buddy Loren Troutt on his National Championship with with Copper. He had two incredible runs in the finals (2 minutes and 3 minutes) and they are very deserving of the win!

We wish to congratulate Scott Smith on his placement with Max yesterday! 🥉

Max is a Legacy pup from our Slick x Lucille litter back in the Spring. Placing in only his second trial and at only 7 months old is pretty special. We wish Scott and Max the very best moving forward!

We had the pleasure of traveling up to Smith Mountain Game Farm in Virginia this weekend. Scott Smith put on a GREAT trial! Great food, great plaques, great hospitality… It was absolutely first class. Thank you Brother!

We had some pretty good luck…

Friday:
Xena 🥇 in the Open trial
Ember 🥇 in the Amateur trial

Saturday:
Xena 🥉 in the Open trial

Congratulations to everyone who placed. And thank you to Matt Behe, Bonnie Fain Roach, Clay Moose and everyone else who judged and planted birds. Your hard work and time spent making the trials possible is MUCH appreciated.

Next week we head to Alabama for American Bird Dog Federation Nationals.

This past weekend we were able to participate in the trials hosted by Triple C Game Farm. We ran Xena in 3 Open trials and were lucky (and I do mean LUCKY) enough to place in all three:

Friday:
Open 1 / 🥈
Open 2 / 🥇

Saturday:
SEC Open / 🥉

With her placement on Friday, she was able to earn her Open Division Championship making her a 3x Champion. 🏆

Saturday, Xena had a sub par first run, but was lucky enough to find two birds in the middle section for a 2 minute 37 second run to grind out a🥉 place finish. That was her personal best run, previously beating out her 2:56 run back in March.

One really cool moment for me this weekend was that due to Matt Behe having to facilitate the trials he asked me to run Slick in one of his runs (Hall of Fame, multiple time National Champion). Slick is Xena’s sire making it extra special for me to have that honor.

Congratulations to all those who placed!

And thank you so much to Matt Behe, Bob Jones, and Bonnie Fain Roach for hosting and overseeing the trials.

Blessings!

We are very thankful for the weekend that Team Legacy had.

Xena:
🥇 Amateur
🥈 Amateur

Tux:
🥇 Amateur

With Xena’s placements on Saturday she was able to earn her second Amateur Championship title. With that she will wrap up her Amateur career and only be competing in Open and Doubles moving forward (except for Nationals in February). We are so very proud of our Warrior Princess! 🙏🏼

We wish to congratulate all the other dogs and handlers who placed this past weekend! Great competition, between some great dogs and handlers. We feel blessed to be a part of it.

11/11/2024

Quite an unlucky weekend for us as Xena did not place in either trial she ran in. We also didn’t run any of our other dogs.

However, we did send home 6 pups from our Xena x Clyde litter. 3 to Kentucky, 1 to Indiana, 1 to New York, and 1 to NC. We wish all of those Legacy pups and their new families the very best!

Still have one solid liver male available at the moment.

11/03/2024

We had the pleasure of traveling up to Starview Farms in Gretna, VA yesterday to compete in their very first trial. It was also the second of the SOUTH EAST SERIES Championship trials.

Xena ended up 5th in the Open (points) trial and got a 🥇 in one of the amateur trials. Ember was able to pick up a 🥉 in the other amateur trial.

Thank you so much Bonnie Fain Roach for all of your hard work this weekend and with the SEC series as well.

Congratulations to all the other dogs and handlers for their placements! It’s such a blast getting to hang out with these great people just about every weekend. 🙏🏼

Next weekend: the 2nd Annual Simmons Farms Classic at Simmons Farms Gun Dogs in Pilot Mountain, NC.

So we had a pretty good weekend as we were trying to get Xena back into the flow of trialing after maternity leave for the last few weeks. She knocked the rust off pretty quick with a 🥈 on Saturday and a 🥇 on Sunday in the ABDF trials at Cottle Branch Shooting Preserve this weekend. Little butthead did not want to cooperate for pictures though. 🤦🏻‍♂️ 😆

Congrats to the winners of our ABDF trial today at Cottle Branch.
1st Jeff Brantley / Xena
2nd Ricky West / Luna
3rd Martin Futrelle / Rosebud

Brixx is available for discussion!

Brixx is a 13 month old started, intact male that has a GREAT temperment around people and dogs. He points, backs, and retrieves. He is a very close ranging dog that is super cooperative and obedient. He would be a great companion to someone who is looking for a pet but also likes to hunt from time to time. He has not been house trained yet, but learns quickly and is very eager to please.

Brixx is a young male that we were evaluating for our breeding program along with 3 other young dogs his age. It’s been a really tough decision, but we feel that it’s best for Brixx if we find him the perfect home so that he can give some person / family a lifetime of love and companionship.

If you think Brixx might be a good fit in your home please reach out to us with any questions that you might have. There will be a re-homing fee.

ABDF = a field trial that allows the use of training collars. The goal is to make it easier for the beginning trialer to get involved and have success sooner. Check them out at American Bird Dog Federation / https://abdf-online.com/

Cottle Branch Shooting Preserve will be hosting an ABDF field trial this weekend October 26th & 27th. Contact Greg Pittman for more info. THANKS

I never cease to be amazed at the roller coaster that is running young dogs in amateur trials. Talk about ups and downs!

Saturday, Tux found two birds relatively quickly but made a mistake and bumped his third bird and ended up finishing middle of the pack. Ember did not find one single bird and finished dead last. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Then, Sunday rolls around and it wasn’t pretty but somehow we were able to grind out a win and a second place.

Ember 🥇 (from last one day to first the next)
Tux 🥈

I hope and pray that Xena can get those pups weaned this week and be ready to trial next Saturday… running an experienced dog is a lot better for my mental state. 😆

Shout out to Toby (Crown Point Shorthairs) for winning the big Open trial and for Martin McVey for placing second! Thank you Scott Bolin for hosting. And y’all checkout the South East Championship Series and get with Bonnie Fain Roach if you are interested in participating in future trials.
