Baby, it's cold outside...

To help cats stay as safe as possible in the cold weather, keep them inside if they live with you. Make sure that you pound on the hood of your car and/or honk the horn before starting the engine to avoid harming cats that may be seeking warmth under the hood or in the wheel wells and do the same before starting a tractor or enclosed generator. While controversial in some places, providing food, shelter, and access to water for stray/feral cats can also help them through periods when the thermometer drops.

Have you heard about the mystery dog respiratory illness? Veterinarians are recommending that you minimize your dog’s contact with other dogs. This means:

• Avoid dog parks.
• Avoid using doggy daycare or boarding.
• Avoid grooming shops.
• Avoid water bowls used by other dogs.
• Use walkers or sitters who will take your dog solo.
• Make sure your dog is fully vaccinated, especially against kennel cough.
• Make sure your dog is in good general health (this includes a good diet).
• Ask your veterinarian which vaccinations your dog should have.

If your dog shows any signs of respiratory issues, please contact your vet immediately and isolate your dog from other animals.

Dr. Rose repaired Odie’s “cherry eye” today! A “cherry eye” is actually a pr*****ed gland associated with the third eyelid and repairing these is super important to the health of the eye and the gland (and its function).

We continue on with our awesome vet techs. The days can be fast paced, at times stressful, and oh so exhausting but our crew finds a way to keep it FUN and enjoyable. They find a way to blend incredible competence and skill with a fun work environment…. This makes for a great day!

Celebrating at ZAH and today we start with the small group who’s job title is NOT vet tech but that doesn’t stop them stepping in when needed! They are always available to help out and wear multiple hats every day!!! They’ve been with ZAH a combined 25+ years, too!!! We are thankful for each of them….
