Dulce - Heavy on the forehand
Been building Dulce strength back up for barrel season. She is naturally heavy on the forehand and has been out of work for a long while.
Continuing training with Venus - aggressive mare training .
With the best Selena Erwood
Venus - Aggressive Mare Training
Part 2 of working with Venus β¦ today we worked on picking up the front hooves and grooming without kicking.
Kelly and Dulce here are doing some strengthening, bending and working on not rushing the canter around barrels.
Dulce loves her barrels π but she has a tendency to rush them in excitement and get extremely heavy on her forehand due to her confirmation, and her personality.
Kelly Stratton
Here Kelly is lifting Dulce in the turn using her inside leg, outside rein and using her seat to push her back on her hind end and slow down and focus.
Meggersβs and Hailey are working on their drills.
This drill is super awesome because it helps keep the horse soft, the rider in tune with their body and movements with the horse. π΄
This drill is also a life-saving technique in case your horse spooks/bolts or becomes unruly. You have your one-rein emergency stop to gain quick control of the horse, you then can use your hind quarter yields to keep the horses feet moving, and refocusing on you- the rider.
Before doing this drill , you MUST make sure your horse knowsβ¦
1. The one rein stop π
2. Hindquarters yield β οΈ
Here Jessica and Bandit are demonstrating how we ask for flexion.
This is important forβ¦
1. One rein stops
2. Creating softness in the horses head , neck and shoulders
3. Ensuring control of the horses direction , because where the nose goes they go.
Bandit - our 30 year old lesson horse here at the ranch! Can you believe heβs actually 30?!?!
Bandit and Jessica are working on their turning cues using proper aids.

Irish βοΈ
First ride went amazing.
Thank you to my apprentice Selena Erwood for helping me with her while I am unable to put first rides in being pregnant.
This is how first rides are supposed to be guys.

βοΈ quiet
βοΈ everything learned on the ground first before done under saddle with a rider
Irish βοΈ ungoing final preparations for her first rides in April once she is 3 years old.
Huge shout out to Selena Erwood my friend / apprentice for assisting in the saddling and riding Irish. Her ability to remain calm, confident is the key π to her success as a kids riding horse.
Dulce is feeling better after her body work sessions and teeth float .
Her kiddo had a good time today practicing circles at the trot and staying balanced.
Long-lining with Irish βοΈ
Irish is getting closer and closer to her first ride under saddle once she is 3 years old.
She has been learning so much since I started with her last year and has made incredible progress in her ground manners, confidence and ability to handle and learn new things Iβve thrown her way.
Her owners have been dedicated to continuing her training during the days I am not there . I could not be happier with her progress.
