Update on PeeWee from Jackpot Animal Refuge It’s with a heavy heart that we share the latest on PeeWee. Today is a challenging day for all of us at Jackpot Animal Refuge. Nancy here, currently at Waldens Vet, by PeeWee’s side. As many of you who’ve been with us know, PeeWee has been showing signs of distress lately — a loss of appetite accompanied by kidney and liver complications. The prognosis isn’t positive, with the vet pointing towards his kidney issues as the primary concern. It’s placed us in the painful position of making a heartbreaking decision. We have decided to let PeeWee cross the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge, a journey no pet owner is ever truly prepared for. In memory of PeeWee, we will be conducting a fundraiser to cover his veterinary and posthumous care expenses. Every donation is deeply appreciated. Following his departure, PeeWee will be taken to Furry Friends, where he will be cremated and placed in a special urn, rejoining the other beloved members of the Jackpot family who’ve passed on. Your support, thoughts, and memories of PeeWee are what will help us through this trying time. Jackpots Animal Refuge Update 🐷❤️ To our loyal followers, you know we proudly care for five wonderful pigs. A couple of weeks ago, we shared an educational reel about our piggy care routine, shedding light on their needs and how we attend to them. Today, however, we bring you an update with mixed emotions. Today, I administered Ivermectin to our pigs for deworming - a routine care measure. Yet, today, we are one pig short at the refuge. Our beloved PeeWee isn’t among them munching away. A day and a half ago, PeeWee lost his appetite. Initially, I hoped it was a fleeting ailment, perhaps an upset tummy. But we knew immediate medical attention was needed when his condition didn’t improve. Currently, PeeWee is under the attentive care of our vet. Preliminary checks indicate he had some worms and dental issues, with the latter being quite severe. He will be undergoing dental floating to address this. While there’s no evident cause for his loss of appetite yet, he’s undergoing further blood work and staying overnight for observation. We remain hopeful and are eagerly waiting for positive news tomorrow. Running Jackpots Animal Refuge is a labor of love, but it’s not without its challenges. Financially, caring for these precious souls, especially during unexpected health crises, can strain our resources. We humbly ask for your support. Your donations help us continue our mission: to provide a safe haven for older animals that others have sadly discarded or abandoned. For many, Jackpots is their last resort. 🐷💕 Oliver’s Journey at Jackpot’s Animal Refuge 💕🐷 Part 2 Meet Oliver – the very first pot-belly pig that graced Jackpot’s Animal Refuge with his presence. Here at the refuge, we don’t usually have favorites, but Oliver’s story is one that stands out. Initially, Oliver wasn’t the friendliest. He would charge at Nancy, making their early interactions quite challenging. However, Nancy is determined to build a trusting relationship with him, showing him that she’s the alpha in the pack. Establishing trust and leadership with animals, just like with humans, doesn’t happen overnight. It requires patience, understanding, and time. Fast forward to now: with gentle scratching and rubbing, Nancy can get Oliver to comfortably tip over. This trust allows her to check on him thoroughly, inspecting his feet hooves to determine if they need trimming and keeping an eye on his tusks, which tend to grow quickly. Building relationships, whether with animals or humans, is a beautiful journey of understanding and patience.
