This is why I will always advocate the crate. If your dog does anything other than sleep when you are gone, (or are under the age of 2) they should be crated. It is an excellent management tool.

And apparently a great way to avoid house fires šŸ„“

Todays Pet of the Week is Archie!

Archie is a young rambunctious German Shorthaired Pointer. Heā€™a big goof ball of a guy and one of the larger pointers that I have trained

GSPs are A beautiful breed. You can expect every one of these dogs to come with non stop energy and movement. The perk is when they do settle down, they give the best snuggles!

Pet of the Week is Mr. Bentley!

I remember meeting Bentley when he was just 8 weeks old during a private lesson together. He has since done our extensive board and train and comes back frequently for boarding stays!

Bentley has such a funny personality! He certainly enjoys eating all the sticks and never bringing the ball back šŸ˜‚

Be sure to send me a photo of your dog to enter in a chance to be the next Pet Of The Week!

A rambunctious boy, but so loving! Everyone is always fighting over who gets to play with Griff when he comes by for boarding or play time visits!

We missed the Pet of the Week yesterday so today is a double appreciation!

Meet Rex and his big sis Bella

You may remember Rex during his board and train a few months back, working on relaxation protocols.

Heā€™s come along way here! Enjoys playing with the other dogs and thrives for the structure and routine we provide here.

Youā€™ll see them often in our stories! These two come here often for boarding ā˜ŗļø

This weeks Pet Of The Week is Miss Bella!

Bella came to me for extensive training a few years ago and has become quite the regular since!
She had a few nips on her record, and some separation anxiety with the history or destroying crates.

I am absolutely in awe of her progress!
She boards very often and crates beautifully!
She has met tons of strangers with ease and even excitement.

She even plays like a wild puppy with all the doggies!

So happy to have such devoted and wonderful clients!
We love you Bella!

Pet of the Week!

Meet Stella! This cutie trained with me back in 2018!! šŸ¤Æ

She has been coming for frequent boarding ever since!
Miss Stella is always a joy to have here! Freckles is absolutely smitten with her and they play non stop when sheā€™s around!

We love when training can turn into such a long term relationship ā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

Hey everyone!
I want to apologize for being so MIA lately. I have truly been neglecting my social media presence and need to get back into it. Being a dog trainer, I forget that my presence here can be just as important as being present with your dog.

To get back into the groove of things, I want to begin each new week highlighting dogs who have gone/ are currently enrolled through some sort of training program with me.

SO without further ado.. meet Tug! Tug Is an unknown doodle mix (maybe border collie?) that was rescued by his amazing owners Maya and Jay!
We have been doing private lessons together to help proof Tugs obedience off leash. They have been AMAZING dog owners, putting in endless hours of training. Those hours have definitely paid off, as Tug is officially an off leash trained doggo!

So happy for all you guys have achieved! šŸ‘

I donā€™t know where to look! The beautiful Canadian mountains or the off-leash huskies!

Ava and Atlas are recent graduates who had the awesome opportunity to go to Canada with their PAWrents and do some incredible exploring!

We love to see dogs getting the life they need to thrive!

Funny how some breeds can come in so many shapes and sizes!

On the first slide we have the golden doodles Miller and Bentley

The second slide we have the Bernedoodles Bailey and Stella!

The third slide we have 3 German Shepherds: Sage, Darla, and Sawyer.

And the last slide our the other guys we have boarding that we obviously couldnā€™t leave our! Rocky (labradoodle), Marvin (French bulldog), and Otto (miniature schnauzer)!

Itā€™s been a busy fall break here! But everyone is having a blast and making new doggie friends!

Double Trouble!

No, no not really! But what a fun coincidence that we had two golden retrievers here around the same age at the same time!

These two got along great, and became good friends during their stay!

Miss Penny is on the left and Miss Riley is on the right!

I love working with dogs individually on recalls and Stay before doing group play. Comes in handy especially when you want to get a cute picture!

The weekend is coming! We will be making sure all playtime/training/walks are all done before dark. All dogs staying here (including my own) will be crated with a loud fan and soft music playing. Have a great time celebrating this weekend, but do not forget the importance of the safety of your pets!

This is the message put out by a local rescue.
Iā€™m sorry but if this is the best advice you have you are failing those you adopt dogs out to.

Basically this is simply saying ā€œnow is the timeā€ to freak out because you have done nothing else to prepare your dog for LIFE.

Same old song and dance every year.

Training your dog to be actually obedient in real life situations goes a long way.

But what do I know šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Weā€™re movingā€¦ to Zionsville!

I just want to give a special shout-out to all of you amazing clients that stayed with me throughout my journey of working out of a rental and traveling further distances. It really shows you trust me to watch over your beloved pets and that means so much to me!

I am hoping I will continue to see all of you and more in this next chapter for Bark Harbour.

The goal was to get some acreage, which we were able to snag one acre during this impossible market! (Maybe in the next 10 years Iā€™ll be on a crazy big farm šŸ¤ž)

This new location will take place starting May 1st. So any boarding or training reservations after May will take place here at the new house!

Again, thank you so much for staying! Canā€™t wait to see you all there!

Here are two of our recent board and train graduates, Sawyer and Oliver.

Bringing a new puppy into a home with older dogs can sometimes be a hard adjustment for everyone! Adding solid obedience and boundaries into the old routine can change everything!

It can be possible to have a calm household where everyone gets along! ā¤ļø

Furniture will always be a privilege, not a right!

Furniture will always be a privilege, not a right!

Do we believe it should be forbidden to allow a dog onto the couch or bed?

The answer is YESā€¦.

Yes, we believe it is forbidden for the immature and untrained dog. You have far more important things to be teaching your dog.
So many wind up backwards in this scenario. That is when our phone rings. Puppies have zero place in the bed with you or on the couch.

Yes, we believe it is perfectly fine for a mature and properly trained dog to be permitted onto a couch or bed.

These spaces are human resources that you control. If you cannot command your dog to get off with one word than you have created a problem that training will solve.

If you have done things correctly you should be able to simply look at the dog without even saying a word and the dog unasses itself from the couch or bed.

Many recall a parent giving you that lookā€¦ nothing was saidā€¦ and you got up and did what was expected. THAT is what you need from your dog.

If you have to grab the dog by the collar to remove it from the resource your dog thinks very little of you and your ability to control it.

Now in the commentsā€¦ but but butā€¦.

Happy Tongue Out Friday?

Congratulations to Miss Sadie for graduating our off-leash program!

Letā€™s wish her luck when bird season comes in a few months, that she will finally be able to accompany her dad out in the field.

Although her recall was the most important command she could learn (for her safety), understanding the stim of the e-collar for basic obedience was our first step.

Teaching the ecollar for basic commands such as sit, down, and stay, helps her understand the tool as a use of communication without confusion. Shocking at high levels for nuisance behaviors without clear communication can confuse your dog, resulting in no change or exhibiting even worse behaviors. Itā€™s important your dog understands what is being asked, and how to avoid corrections in the future without suppressing them.

Once we have clear communication, we can do so many more things!

Iā€™ll never stop saying ā€œthe more rules your dog understands, the more freedom your dog can have!ā€
