Holiday season is here!

🎄 While we are busy decorating for Christmas and planning parties for New Year -
we must take extra care of our pets.

Here are 3 things that you should use extra caution with or avoid bringing home altogether:

1️⃣ Pistachios contain aflatoxins, which are toxic to pets and can cause gastrointestinal issues or liver damage.
✅ Safe Alternative: Unsalted popcorn.

2️⃣ Poinsettias: The milky white sap from poinsettias can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and skin irritation in pets.
✅ Safe Alternative: Non-toxic plants like spider plants or maranta.

3️⃣ Christmas lilies: Lilies are highly toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure, even with small amounts.
✅Safe Alternative: Roses or carnations.

✔️ Schedule regular vet checkups, keep their vaccinations up to date for preventable diseases.

✔️ Provide physical and mental stimulation, including daily walks for dogs.

🌴 Living in such a beautiful, tropical definitely has more perks than downsides, but it is important to be aware of plants that can be toxic for pets & know what to do if they hav been munching on something they shouldn't have 👇

Tropical plants, such as Oleander, Sago Palm, and Angel's Trumpet, are common in St. Croix and can be toxic to pets if ingested. If you suspect your pet has eaten a poisonous plant contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal clinic immediately. Keep the plant sample or photo to help with identification and treatment 🪴

🎃 Halloween can be a great time for humans, but less fun for our pets. Here are 4 ways to make it easier on them:

-Keep Treats Out of Reach: Halloween candy, especially chocolate and candy with xylitol, can be toxic to pets. Make sure to keep all candy bowls and bags out of their reach.

-Avoid Costumes That Restrict Movement or Breathing: If you plan on dressing up your pet, make sure the costume doesn’t restrict their movement, breathing, or ability to bark/meow. Always supervise pets in costumes to ensure they’re comfortable.

-Be Careful With Decorations: Decorations like fake cobwebs, candles, or small items can be hazardous if chewed or swallowed. Make sure to place decorations safely where your pets can't reach them.

-Create a Safe Space for Pets: Halloween can be stressful for pets with constant doorbell rings and visitors. Set up a quiet, secure area in your home where they can retreat to feel safe.
