(91)

One late night, I was about to climb onto our motorbike in a parking area when I heard this screechy ‘meow, meow’. I turned around and this scruffy little kitten came running up to us. I knelt down and this little thing climbed on to my lap and started purring. I looked around and no one was caring for him, he was a skinny, dirty thing and I knew I couldn't leave him there. So quite happily he sat

on my lap as we drove home, no fear or wonder as he went on his first motorbike ride. I woke the next morning to the same screeching and instantly thought ‘oh no there's a cat in the kitchen! But there he was and as lovable as he had been the night before, we knew he would fit in quite happily. We fed him and he grew into quite a beauty, every night snuggling his nose into my ear, his favorite sleeping position, where his snores would help me sleep. It was around Tet near year time and I came home to the sight of a very big, tabby boy sitting on our wall. I went into my home to a very strange acting Jack. It was that instant I thought, wow Jack isn't a he but a she! And in heat! It was very early for her to be in heat as I did some checking but thought maybe she was older than I first thought. My basic knowledge of cats back then didn't think to check. I locked her in the house and rang the local vet but he was in his home town for the new year and wouldn't be back for a while. No worries I thought, I'll lock her in the house until we can get her spayed when the vet returns. The next night she escaped from a ridiculously high tiny hole in a grated window. We didn't see her for two days. When she finally came home, we were extremely relieved locked her in a safe room until she could get checked out. But too late. Our little Jack was pregnant.

9 weeks later she gave birth to 5 babies in my suitcase. We sat with her and helped her through as after the third she was so tired. But she had five very healthy babies. She was the best mama, only leaving to go out to the toilet or give us cuddles. The five babies grew. Then after two weeks Jack didn't come home. After a few hours we got worried and searched and searched. We even look her babies to the front yard hoping she would hear their hungry cries. But nothing. Someone nearby mentioned cat catchers but I naively thought nothing of it. A week we searched day and night for her. There was no trace. With five hungry two week babies we had no support and had to learn how to raise them ourselves. We made the safest milk concoction of baby's milk, cow milk, egg yolk and a little oil in the smallest baby bottles we could find. Every few hours we would take turns and feed them. Miraculously they all survived and turned into five playful young kittens. Because we missed jack so much and had devoted so much to the kittens we couldn't bare to give them away. We became so attached and decided we would keep them all. Everyone thought we were mad then! After a month or so, a little ginger kitten, filthy and skinny started hanging out by our house. We brought him in and the other kittens just accepted him as one of the family. By this time we had lost one kitten, Teppi, to a motorbike accident as we lived on a main road. Totally

devastated, we kept them inside and only let them in the garden area until we could find a better house off a main road. Not long into our new house, in the middle of the night we heard crying from the front garage. A little tabby kitten with a curled up tail and abscess under its leg was hiding under a motorbike. Rocky became another member of the crew, and the stories continue. Next was Indie we found disabled and scared to death trapped in a bar toilet. And the rescues continued, people started calling me and we seemed to be naturally drawn to finding helpless kittens in need. So this all started with Jack. We learned everything from her, from rescuing a kitten, to understanding sterilization, to rearing babies and the hardest part acknowledging cat theft for the cat meat trade. We know this is what happened to her and it breaks our heart. So we want to educate others. We want to teach people cats aren't dirty but a loving part of the family. We want to educate everyday care and awareness. For her we named the first cat café in Central Vietnam, Jack’s Cat Café.

Well we can finally say we are all moved into our new shelter! What a crazy two weeks of moving and cleaning. The last job was to move the 104 kitties, dogs and rabbit over. With a lot of meows and scratches everyone is safe and sound in their new home.

I cannot thank all the staff and volunteers enough for all your help. You all worked so hard in this blistering heat and I couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks again to all those who donated to make this possible. Thank you!

We will add more pics of the kitties settling in soon! ❤️ 😘 🐾

It's been a month of hard work for our builders. They have built a second floor on one house, extended and made new a bigger kitchen and toilet for the cat house. All new roofs, electric and cat proofing the houses. Also a secure perimeter of over 2m walls to keep our kitties inside and safe. Now the foundation is being made for the metal housing and storage units which will be dismantled and moved this weekend. Phew!

And this has all been possible thanks to all those kind sponsors who donated and believed in our goal to let us move shelter and continue our work.

Now comes the hard work for us. Today we began to empty out storage and will be a week of moving and preparing for when we can finally move the cats in. This has been a huge project and we hope the cats will be happy in the new location. Here are some pictures of midway building so you can see the progress so far. We will keep you posted on how this next week goes and more updated photos.

PLEASE NOTE... as of today we will not be able to have any visitors to come see us for the near future as we spend time moving and settling in the cats. When we can re open to visitors we will let you know.

Wish us luck! And if anyone has any free time next week to help out give us a shout!

We had a few people miss out on a visit today as we were all booked up. Don't forget we ask to book before you visit to ensure a spot to come cuddle the kitties. Especially on these rainy days!

We will be here again on Friday, book now!

Also please be aware we will be moving shelter soon so Jack's will be unable to take visitors for a few months while we settle. We don't have a date yet but will keep you posted 😺😺

Hey all,
I want to thank each and everyone of you who have donated or shared towards our new shelter move. I am absolutely overwhelmed by your generosity and support . Not only that but your kind words of encouragement and affection has truly been uplifting. Our kitties are very lucky to have such love!
Now as we begin to re build we will share as we get through the next month. The perimeter build has already begun and plans to keep the cats safe are being worked out. We will get some videos and pictures this week to see the chaotic progress.

As much as this move is something we don't want. It's happening and I'm just so grateful to each of you for helping me continue!!

For now here is a sweet picture of our rescue Zsolti, who himself went through hell to get to his peace with us! ❤️❤️

Love Emma

P.s anyone who is in Hoi An over the next month or two to keep an eye out as we will be in need of hands on help and will hold volunteer days to get some gardening, cleaning and moving done and will post soon.🤞 🙏 👍

We are being forced to leave our home. Again 😞

As you may have heard, after three years of building our shelter into a happy, safe space for our 120 rescued animals, our landlord has decided to sell up, and there's nothing we can do about it. So in two months, we will all be homeless.

Devastated doesn’t even come close, but we have to stay strong for the cats. They have already suffered enough, so we'll never give up.

Thankfully, we've found a potential new home for Vietnam Cat Welfare with a ten year lease, but it requires an enormous amount of work to turn it into the sanctuary the animals deserve.

That’s where you can help: we desperately need funds to pay for the re-build. Anything you can afford to give will make a difference to the lives of so many animals 👉 http://tiny.cc/SaveVCW

If you've visited us at any point over the last decade or more, you'll know how tirelessly our staff and volunteers work to rescue, rehabilitate and care for the cats here. We just want the chance to continue this vital work for the cats of Vietnam.

Please please please share this post, tell your friends, tell everyone you know, and donate whatever you can to help secure our future. Literally every penny counts.

Thank you ❤️

So we bring some frustrating and sad news that we are currently trying to take in. Sadly we have to move shelter in the next couple of months. All the hard work the past three years has to come to an end as the land we rent is being sold. Frustrating to say the least. So next week I really need the time to get a new location scouted and sorted so we can begin fundraising to move all our 120+ animals.

As you can imagine this is a massive task and not an easy one coming. So please bare with us next week as I focus on that and not take any bookings.

We will keep everyone updated on the situation and appreciate everyone's support.

Here is Bender who is also not amused with the news! Thanks for your understanding

Today we bring some heartbreaking news. Sadly this morning we had to say goodbye to our Cosmos.

Cosmos was suffering with kidney failure and the vets did all they could but sadly he kept getting weaker. We brought him home Friday so he could spend his last couple of days getting all the cuddles and love from our staff and volunteers.

Cosmos was a really special boy. And if you have ever been to the shelter or cafe I'm pretty sure you know how special he was. A total lover and weirdo and was really adored by everyone who met him. I want to thank everyone who has been a part of his life for the past five years. From fosters to staff and visitors who gave him all the love.

If you have any memories of Cosmos share with us so we can remember him .

Sleep well sweet boy ❤️

Thank you to all those who have donated already towards Beans and her FIP treatment. She has now completed two weeks of medication and is doing so well.

But she still has 10 more weeks to go and a lot of expenses. We really want to be able to continue her full treatment to give her a chance to beat this horrific sickness.

Can you help? Please consider donating towards her care. Thank you to you all ❤️

As a shelter, FIP is our worst fear. Until recently there has been no cure. But now there is. But the expense is so high that we simply cannot afford it without your kind help and support. Our sweet Beans has been suffering with some health issues ...

We need you!

We try not to always ask for your kind donations too often as we like to talk about our rescues more but sometimes we just really need it. As we come to the end of the first quarter of the year... Also comes the bills. We have had a couple of vet emergency cases (Forest, Ash) this and our general bills have added up.

We also have security cameras around our whole property and inside. Which is crucial for the safety of our kitties. (From theft and keeping a watchful eye 24/7) And sadly three cameras are in need of replacement as completely out.

These bills due all will total approx 20,000,000vnd (£630/$800US)

Any donation to our rescues right now would be so appreciated and will help us continue the best care we can for our kitties. Literally every penny counts. If you can help please follow the easy link below and choose one time donation. Thank you so much as always for your continued support ❤️❤️
