A Big Thanks to our friends from Plumploris e.V.

Loris is the smallest primate in Vietnam and is currently threatened with extinction due to illegal hunting and trade.

From 2019 we have received a lot of support from Plumploris e.V, especially their contribution in the construction of our first 3 semi-wild areas for Loris. These are important area, in order to establish an adaptive environment for lorises after confiscation to re-claim their wild instincts before they are returned to their home nature.

Unsere beiden Vorstandsmitglieder Marcel Stawinoga/Der Zoolotse und Elisabeth Schüller haben heute im Endangered Primate Rescue Center, Vietnam (EPRC) in Vietnam gemeinsam mit EPRC-Mitarbeiter Vinh, der maßgeblich an der Umsetzung der Anlagen beteiligt war, EPRC-Direktor Dr. Ralph Schönfelder sowie den EPRC-Mitarbeitern Nga und Elke Schwierz (von links nach rechts) zwei von uns mitfinanzierte Auswilderungsgehege für Plumploris im EPRC eröffnet. Wir freuen uns sehr über die schnelle Umsetzung dieser tollen Anlagen!

Denn durch die Auswilderungsgehege kann das Team im EPRC unter anderem besser bewerten, welche der Bengalischen Plumploris und Zwergplumploris im Center für eine Auswilderung geeignet sind. Denn in diesem versorgen die Primaten sich in einem Stück natürlichen Lebensraum unter möglichst natürlichen Bedingungen bereits größtenteils selbst, indem sie sich beispielsweise eigenständig, wie in der Natur, Baumsäfte erarbeiten und Insekten jagen. Wie sie sich dabei anstellen, wird von den Mitarbeitern vor Ort unter anderem mit Wildkameras beobachtet und anschließend ausgewertet, wodurch Plumploris identifiziert werden können, die für ein erneutes eigenständiges Leben in der Wildnis bereit sind und gute Überlebenschancen in der Natur haben.

Wir stehen bereits seit 2019 im fachlichen Austausch mit dem EPRC, das unter der Trägerschaft des Zoo Leipzig steht. Unter anderem um unsere künftige Zusammenarbeit im Plumplori-Schutz zu besprechen, die wir in den nächsten Jahren noch intensivieren werden, befinden sich unsere Vorstandsmitglieder Marcel und Elisabeth derzeit vor Ort im EPRC.

Wir freuen uns sehr auf gemeinsame Projekte und die weitere Zusammenarbeit mit dem EPRC in Vietnam im Plumplori-Schutz!

The Indochinese gray langur eats a lot of leaves. In fact, it consumes so many that this species has a highly specialized stomach capable of digesting cellulose and neutralizing toxins found in leafy materials, allowing them to better absorb nutrients. In addition to leaves, this primate also consumes fruit, and as a result, they disperse seeds via their f***s, helping to regenerate their habitat. **On December 19, 2023, A ceremony to celebrate EPRC 30th anniversary was held at Cuc Phuong National Park

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cuc Phuong National Park, Zoo Leipzig, International conservation organizations, philanthropists, and a large number of staff from our center.

**As part of the anniversary ceremony, EPRC organized a conference to evaluate the results of "30 YEARS OF RESCUING AND CONSERVING VIETNAM'S ENDANGERED PRIMATES, RESULTS, EXPERIENCED LESSON AND AN OUTLOOK TO 2050". The conference focused on discussing the achievements, lessons learned, and development directions of primate rescue work in Vietnam in the coming time.

Took place at the ceremony, Zoo Leipzig and Cuc Phuong National Park signed a cooperation support agreement for the period 2024-2028.

**Some outstanding results of EPRC in the past 30 years:
- Rescued and cared for 15 species, successfully bred 12 endangered and critically endangered primate species, 4 of which were the first born in captive environment.
- 148 primate individuals were released back to protected natural forests
- Professional training, capacity building for the staff of the center and organizations and individuals involved in primate conservation
- Publicity and raising awareness of the community about the importance of primate conservation

**The development directions of EPRC in the coming time:
- Continue to improve the capacity of rescuing, caring for, and releasing primates.
- Expand the scope of primate rescue activities to other regions of Vietnam.
- Strengthen international cooperation in primate conservation.
- Promote publicity and raise awareness of the community about primate conservation.

The 30th anniversary of EPRC is a significant milestone for the conservation of primates in Vietnam. Over the past three decades, the center has made significant contributions to the rescue, care, and release of endangered primate species. EPRC's work has helped to increase the number of these species in the wild and raise awareness of the importance of primate conservation.

EPRC commit to continuing our work to conserve primates in Vietnam. Our plans to expand capacity, reach, and cooperation will help to ensure that the center can continue to make a positive impact on the primate conservation.

Our langur mother and daughter, Borsti and Luna. Langur Borsti has now become a grandmother as her daughter Luna recently gave birth to a baby.

Perfectly posed, it's hard to believe the faces of these two red-shanked douc langurs are
real, and not just wearing beautiful masks! This mother and child were photographed at the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, Vietnam, where many rare species of primates live and thrive in family groups. In the wild, this colorful primate is found in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. As forest dwellers, langurs will travel through the trees, feeding on leaves, fruit, flowers, and occasionally, bark. Habitat loss, poaching for food, and use in traditional medicine are the greatest threats facing this species. And lately, due to their uncommon beauty, the likelihood of langurs being captured for the pet trade has also gone up.

Happy Halloween
"Fruit slice bat" for our gibbons. Leaf, carton paper/ or bamboo, some fruit slides. Our gibbon Gabi likes them so much, she even stretched her long arms to get them.

Our pretty gibbon Lo Lem recently gave birth to a beautiful baby. This is her third children with gibbon Lucky, her partner. We still don't know yet is it a princess or prince, but both mother and baby are healthy and we all happy about this.

Cô vượn xinh xắn Lọ Lem của chúng tôi vừa mới sinh hạ một bé vượn con kháu khỉnh. Đây là đứa con thứ ba của cô với vượn Lucky, bạn đời của cô. Chúng tôi vẫn chưa biết em bé này là công chúa hay hoàng tử nhưng cả mẹ và bé đều khỏe mạnh và chúng tôi đều vui mừng vì điều đó.

On this day 78 years ago, President Hồ Chí Minh declared the independence of Vietnam in front of 50,000 spectators in Ba Dinh square, Hanoi, stating that "All people are created equal; they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights; among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." The declaration of Independence marked a new era for the Vietnamese who from then could call themselves the people of a free and independent nation.

Here are the answers to the previous post:
1. Red-shanked Douc langur (Pygathrix nemaeus): The baby in the picture is Chip. Chip's mother unfortunately passed away when he was very young, Chip was hand-raised by EPRC nannies.
2. Indochinese Silvered Langur (Trachypithecus germaini): The baby in the picture is Hello Kitty, 5 years ago Kitty was rescued in Hanoi from smuggler who tried to sell her as a pet.
3. Grey-shanked Douc Langur (Pygathrix cinerea): this photo was not taken by admin.. so I haven't realized who this is exactly :D
4. Hatinh Langur (Trachypithecus hatinhensis): this is baby Bao, meaning Storm. She was born in a stormmy day last year, And that's why we named her Storm.
5. Cat Ba Langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus): the adorable baby born 5 months ago at our center. Her species is only less than 80 individuals remain in the whole world.

6. Delacour's langur (Trachypithecus delacouri): the baby's name is Totoro, the child of mother CP. Locals call them White trouser monkey, as how funny their lower part look like. The species population is only below 300 individuals remain. ..
Sau đây là đáp án cho câu hỏi lần trước:
1. Chà vá chân nâu (Pygathrix nemaeus): Em bé trong hình là Chip. Mẹ của Chip không may qua đời từ ngày Chip còn rất nhỏ, Chip đã được nuôi bộ bởi các cô bảo mẫu tại EPRC.
2. Voọc bạc Đông Dương (Trachypithecus germaini): Em bé trong ảnh tên là Hello Kitty. Lúc 1 tháng tuổi em được tìm thấy và giải cứu ở Hà Nội khi người ta đang định đưa em đi bán làm thú cảnh, thấm thoắt đã 5 năm, giờ đây Kitty đã trưởng thành rồi nhé các bạn.
3. Chà vá chân xám (Pygathrix cinerea): ảnh này không được chụp bởi ad, nên chưa nhận ra đây chính xác là bạn nào :D
4. Voọc Hà Tĩnh (Trachypithecus hatinhensis): đây là bé Bão, em sinh ra vào năm ngoái, ngày em chào đời có một cơn bão đổ bộ vào Cúc Phương và đó là lý do chúng tôi đặt tên cho em như vậy.
5. Voọc Cát Bà (Trachypithecus poliocephalus): em bé chào đời tại trung tâm vào 5 tháng trước. Loài của em hiện chỉ còn lại khoảng 80 cá thể trên toàn thế giới
6. Voọc mông trắng (Trachypithecus delacouri): em bé này tên là Totoro, con của mẹ CP nhé. Vì vẻ ngoài ngộ nghĩnh đến từ phần thân dưới, người dân địa phương thường gọi loài này là Khỉ quần đùi trắng. Hiện nay chúng chỉ còn lại khoảng 300 cá thể ngoài tự nhiên.....

Baby langur Carrot after rescued, is now getting used to the new environment at the our Center
Today his 'nanny' let him climb on a branche and show him some leaves. These lessons help him to develop muscle strength and flexibility. By the way, recognizing some edible plants, that will be the main food source later for him to become a healthy langur.

Recently: EPRC received a 7-month-old baby langur rescued from Quang Ngai

We named him Cà Rốt (Carrot). Carrot is a Grey-shanked Douc, his species has fewer than 1500 individuals left in the wild.

While on patrol, the Quang Ngai rangers found Carrot lying on the path. Realizing that the baby langur was very weak, the Rangers quickly took him to the veterinarian at South Hoi An River Safari Zoo, which is about 100 kilometers away, for help. After 3 days of being cared for by the doctors, his health improved, and he was eligible to go a long way with us to our Endangered Primate Rescue Center.
Right now, Carrot is being taken care of by the 'nanny' at our center. We will try our best to help him stay healthy. We hope he will get used to the new environment soon.

Vừa qua: EPRC tiếp nhận Voọc con 7 tháng tuối được cứu hộ từ Quảng Ngãi

Chúng tôi đặt tên cho bé là Cà Rốt. Cà Rốt là một bé trai thuộc loài Chà vá chân xám, loài của em hiện nay chỉ còn lại chưa đến 1500 cá thể ngoài tự nhiên.
Trong lúc đi tuần tra, các đồng chí kiểm lâm Quảng Ngãi đã tìm thấy Cà Rốt nằm thoi thóp bên đường. Nhận thấy bé rất yếu, các đồng chí Kiểm Lâm đã nhanh chóng đưa đến nhờ Bác sĩ thú y tại vườn thú River Safari Nam Hội An, nơi cách hạt Kiểm lâm khoảng 100km để được giúp đỡ. Sau 3 ngày được các bác sĩ tại đây chăm sóc, sức khoẻ của bé trở nên khá hơn và đủ điều kiện để cùng chúng vượt một chặng đường dài về tới Trung Tâm Cứu Hộ Linh Trưởng Nguy Cấp. Ngay lúc này đây, em đang được các 'bảo mẫu' tại trung tâm chăm sóc. Chúng tôi sẽ cố gắng hết sức để giúp em thật khoẻ mạnh, chúng tôi mong em sớm làm quen với môi trường mới.

Some injuries were found, as the result of a recent altercation with his friend, langur Nhai.
Everything else seems fine. We will know more information after his test results are available.......

We are building a new Loris enclosure.

In the past 6 months, 13 Loris individuals have been rescued. As you know, not all of them are healthy enough to be released soon. A new enclosure is therefore needed to ensure that Lorises have enough living space during the rehabilitation time at our Center.
This is one cage, there will be 4 more extension compartments, with doors and hinges in the middle, allowing us to turn it into a large cage or divide it into smaller compartments if necessary..
Chúng tôi đang xây dựng thêm chuồng culi mới.

Chỉ trong vòng 6 tháng qua, 13 cá thể Culi đã được cứu hộ. Và như bạn biết đấy, không phải tất cả đều đủ điều kiện sức khoẻ để tái thả trong thời gian ngắn. Do đó cần thêm chuồng mới để đảm bảo cho Culi có đủ không gian sống trong quá trình phục hồi tại trung tâm.
Đây là 1 ngăn chuồng, sẽ có thêm 4 ngăn nối dài, với các cửa và bản lề ở giữa, cho phép chúng tôi có thể biến nó thành một chiếc chuồng lớn hoặc chia thành các ngăn nhỏ hơn nếu cần thiết.

Four rescued Slow Lorises, after recovering at our center, were finally returned to the jungle last night.

Averagely 20 lorises are rescued every year to EPRC, which are mainly confiscated from the illegal pet trade. Interestingly, most of the people who kept them did not even know that lorises are nocturnal. People force them to be active during the day and give them the wrong food. So, in 80% of the cases, the lorises arrive at our center in bad health because of bad captive conditions. This makes it harder for us to release them quickly; most will need medical treatment or at least regain some weight before they can be released.

Wild animals are beautiful, and they are even more beautiful when they live in the wild...
Bốn cá thể Culi sau một thời gian hồi phục sức khoẻ tại trung tâm cứu hộ của chúng tôi, đã được thả về rừng tối qua.

Dù cho Culi là loài được liệt kê vào sách đỏ và được bảo vệ nghiêm ngặt bởi luật pháp, mỗi năm vẫn có trung bình tới 20 cá thể Culi được giải cứu và đưa tới EPRC để được chăm sóc. Phần lớn chúng đều là nạn nhân của các vụ buôn bán thú cảnh trái phép. Một điều thú vị là hầu hết những người nuôi thậm chí còn không biết rằng cu li là loài sống về đêm. Chúng bị ép hoạt động vào ban ngày và phải ăn những thức ăn không phù hợp. 80% trường hợp Culi được đưa đến trung tâm cứu hộ của chúng tôi trong tình trạng sức khỏe kém hoặc rất kém. Điều này khiến việc tái thả chúng trong thời gian ngắn trở nên khó khăn. Hầu hết cần được điều trị y tế hoặc ít nhất là bù đắp cân nặng trước khi chúng đủ sức khoẻ để về tự nhiên.

Động vật hoang dã rất đẹp, và càng đẹp hơn khi chúng sống trong tự nhiên. Vì vậy xin đừng lấy chúng ra khỏi rừng, mái nhà thân yêu nơi chúng thuộc về. ..
