Tortoises are some of the longest-living creatures on Earth. Today's fun fact shares a story about a 175-year-old tortoise named Harriet (not pictured). Tortoises can also weigh up to 550 pounds at full size! 🐢

Tomorrow is the first day of September! Can you believe we are already 8 months through 2024? Darby and I cannot wait for Fall and the weather that accompanies it. This sweet girl loves her autumnal walks and I cannot blame her, the cool air and changing leaves are our favorite! 🍂🐕

Happy Wednesday! What a warm week this week! Certainly a change from the weather last week. I was beginning to think it was starting to feel like Autumn too! A couple leaves have started falling here and there but it's not quite that time of the year yet. 😅🍂🌞
Irwin doesn't mind, he prefers sunbathing on his walks and will enjoy this Summer sun right up to the season change.

Today's Fun Fact is on Saturday so we could properly appreciate our Blind Pups on Friday. Luna is here to give you some facts about the Doberman breed! Dobermans, while primarily listed as guard dogs, Luna prefers to cuddle under her blankets and avoid any signs of danger 😂. We love this sweet girl and all her quirks, it's always a pleasure when WNC Pet Care has the opportunity to care for her. 🐶🤗

This Friday is International Day, and we are dedicating this post to the oh-so-handsome Mr. Riley. Riley is the oldest of his siblings but that doesn't stop him from competing for the cutest in the house. He loves his nap times curled up in the warmest dog bed available. 💛😊

Today is National Appreciation Day! Isis is here to show you that they aren't bad luck. The bad luck myth originated as a superstition that black cats are common companions of witches 🧙‍♀️ and bring misfortune if they cross your path. I think that's totally unfair because the only thing Isis brings is an appetite at every visit! 😂🥰

Happy Fur-iday!! Newman and his sister Lucy are here to host the weekly fun fact. Though they may be small in size, but chihuahuas are big in most other aspects! They are loyal and vocal, and therefore make great guard dogs! You'll never miss another delivery with these little guys keeping an eye on anyone to step foot on your property. 😻🐶

🥂🐾I can't believe this! Happy 7 years anniversary to WNC Pet Care! 🥂🐾
It's hard to believe that seven years have passed since I founded WNC Pet Care LLC from scratch. Being a business owner has its challenges, but I am immensely grateful for the growth, knowledge, and adaptability we've developed with the help of our wonderful clients, administrative team and pet care staff over the last few years years. I'm especially proud of the significant progress we've made, with this year marking our biggest growth since the founding of WNC Pet Care. But this didn't happen without sweat and tears, I can assure you. I started WNC Pet Care from the ground up, and invested in it all my time and savings in hope I could grow a successful business and provide top quality care to pets around us. And we did!

Somehow, I never imagined I had an entrepreneurial spirit. After earning my B.Sc. in Biology, I pursued a career as a veterinary technician, all while daydreaming about other possibilities. Already equipped with the fundamentals of starting a business, and some managerial knowledge, I decided to channel all my energy into launching my own pet sitting and dog walking service. Since then, the business has grown consistently, between 5-20% each year, making this journey both challenging and exciting. To all the young dreamers out there, never give up on your aspirations!!

A huge shoutout to our phenomenal team of dedicated pet care professionals. Your hard work, passion, and love for animals have been the backbone of our success. 🐾❤️

Another week, another awareness post! While it's nice having your dog off-leash on hikes or walks, keeping other pet owners in mind when out and about is important. In Asheville and Buncombe County, if your dog leaves your property, it must be on a leash. This law is designed to protect people and other dogs from unexpected and/or potentially dangerous interactions. Make sure to always be aware of your local laws and guidelines for parks and trails! 🐾

We wanted to share a wonderful review left by one of our very own members. WNC Pet Care had the wonderful opportunity to care for one of our employees' pets while they were out of town. Every one of their furbabbies was just the cutest and we loved having the chance to care for them. Pepper and Boomer were all smiles and butt wiggles every single time we visited, and I know I can't wait to see them again soon! 🤗

This week is International Assistance Dog Week, hosted by Assistance Dogs International (ADI). Assistance dogs are dogs that have been specifically trained to perform tasks to assist a person with a disability, improving their independence and quality of life. It is important to note that Emotional Support Animals are not task-trained like Service Animals and therefore do not have access to public places as per the ADA guidelines. But both are important to those who need them! We love our Service Animals and all the hard work they can do. 🐶🥰

Happy Saturday Asheville! Gunnison wants to remind you to stay hydrated. While it might seem like a silly thing to remind you about, think about how much water you've drank today. Most adults should drink anywhere from 70 to 100 ounces of water a day! The amount of water dogs and cats drink is about one ounce of water to one pound of body weight. If you have specific questions about how much water you or your pet should be drinking daily, talk to your doctor or veterinarian! 💦

School is starting up again soon and the leaves will be falling off the trees here in a couple months. Are you ready for Fall? or do you prefer the Summer? Fun Fact Fri-yay! 🥳

Junior wanted to share the fact that yawning is not just contagious among humans. Dogs are likely to yawn after seeing or hearing a human yawn and are even more likely to when it's an owner or someone the dog knows! Junior's walks are pretty early in the morning sometimes and I know we both share some contagious yawns before we get going on our walk. 🥱😴🐶

Lucy and Rowen just have the perfect younger/older sibling relationship. Even though Rowen is only a couple years younger than Lucy, Rowen still rocks the role of the younger sibling. These two Labradoodles are purrfessionals in keeping the tennis ball away from one another. 🤣 It's always such a pleasure when WNC Pet Care gets the opportunity to care for them. 🥰

Happy Monday Asheville! Today is 👨‍🚒
We wanted to share some Pet Fire Safety tips from the American Kennel Club that can help anyone with a furry friend at home stay safe and prevent accidents:

🐾 Extinguish Open Flames – Pets are generally curious and will investigate cooking appliances, candles, or even a fire in your fireplace. Ensure your pet is not left unattended around an open flame and make sure to thoroughly extinguish any open flame before leaving your home.

🐾 Pet Proof the Home – Take a walk around your home and look for areas where pets might start fires inadvertently, such as the stove k***s, loose wires and other potential hazards.

🐾 Secure Young Pets – Especially with young puppies, keep them confined away from potential fire-starting hazards when you are away from home.

🐾 Keep Pets Near Entrances – When leaving pets home alone, keep them in areas or rooms near entrances where firefighters can easily find them.

🐾 Practicing Escape Routes with Pets – Keep collars and leashes at the ready in case you have to evacuate quickly with your pet or firefighters need to rescue your pet.

🐾 Since Pets Left Alone Can’t Escape a Burning Home – Use monitored smoke detectors which are connected to a monitoring center, providing an added layer of protection beyond battery-operated smoke alarms.

🐾 Affix a Pet Alert Window Cling – Write down the number of pets inside your house and attach the static cling to a front window. This critical information saves rescuers time when locating your pets. You can obtain a free window cling by going to www.adt.com/pets or at AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days events. Details are available at www.akc.org.

🐾 Keep Your Information Updated – Firefighters are familiar with pet alert window clings so keep the number of pets listed on them updated. Knowing the accurate number of pets in the house aids rescuers in finding all of your pets.
