I will be off most of this week with Miles before it’s non stop up to Christmas.

‼️ Can I please ask that if there’s sickness in your house even ‘just a cold’ let me know and you can bring your dog to me instead, a cold can floor me for a week, and I don’t want to have to cancel any work.
I’ve had clients recently with Covid and norovirus that have thankfully let me know so thank you.

I had not seen Crumpet for months because of my bleed, in the meantime his owners Soph & Becca tied the knot 👩🏻‍❤️‍💋‍👩🏻💍
Crumpet gets bored very quickly on the grooming table and gets very fidgety but he’s been with me since pup so I’m used to him, he also will not have his photo taken so it’s a quick snap and hope for the best
As long as Crumpet is happy 🧡

He’s a little nervous and cannot go to a salon but me and him are getting on great and he’s much more relaxed having his grooms at home, he does not like his head/face dried but so what, his wellbeing comes first.

Archie went to another groomer a couple of times while I was unwell but he’s back with me today and it was so lovely to see him and his owner
I am still playing catch up, I think it’s going to take me up until Christmas.

Exercise, why is it necessary? 🐕

Being active is an important part of a dogs life. Not only are they built to explore but they have great energy levels and energy needs to be expended.

Exercise helps the blood flow through the body and the heart pump, which is essential for keeping their cardiovascular system healthy and working at its best ♥️

Another important part of the body exercise helps, is the lymphatic system. This is responsible for detoxing your dog and keeping his or her 'ecosystem' clean. This is a very important part of keeping the immune system healthy! 🧹

Plus, exercise releases endorphins which will boost happiness 😃

I’ve been so busy I’ve not taken many pics, surgery went really smoothly last Thursday and im back to work, a little sore but recovery has been easier than before.
Here’s gorgeous Squeak who’s a little dream and welcome Westie Puppy Wilma, Wilma’s owners have been with me for 7 years I groomed their gorgeous Maggie who sadly passed away earlier this year. Wilma doesn’t have the confidence in the grooming process that Maggie had but no 2 dogs are the same and we’ll get there, she’s very very sweet and I’m looking forward to seeing her in 4 weeks time. 🤍

‼️ Please note I am completely fully booked until the end of November and even overbooked on a lot of days so if you can’t make your upcoming appointment I may not be able to groom your dog on a different date, I do my best to accommodate but most of the time it’s impossible and I simply cannot magic up hours with having a 6 year old to look after and no family local.

PAIN AWARENESS MONTH ‼️🐾

According to The Royal Veterinary College, 1 in every 14 dogs in the UK suffers from ear infections, with the following breeds most predisposed:

🐾 Poodle
🐾 Spaniels
🐾 Basset hound
🐾 Shar Pei
🐾 Labradoodle
🐾 Beagle
🐾 Golden Retriever

They are most common in dogs with long, hanging ear flaps rather than those with pointed ears. This is due to the fact the hanging ears create a perfect haven for growing yeast and bacteria.

Ear infections are when the lining of a dog’s ear becomes inflamed and thickened in either one or both ears. The infection is usually smelly, irritating and often very painful for a dog. If left untreated, the infection can spread deeper down the ear canal causing even more serious harm to the affected dog.

Previously groomers were able to pluck excess fur from a dog’s ears however, due to the risk of over plucking and unidentified ear infections it is now not recommended by the RVC and instead should be done by a registered vet unless advised otherwise.

Signs of an ear infection include:

‼️Ear scratching
‼️Head shaking
‼️ Face/Head rubbing
‼️ Redness
‼️ Swelling
‼️ Heat within the ear
‼️ Strong smell
‼️ Discharge
‼️ Loss of balance
‼️ Vomitting
‼️ Partial deafness
‼️ Scabs and crusting

Dogs with an ear infection are extremely unlikely to tolerate being groomed or handled due to the pain it causes. They will be especially sensitive around their face, head and front legs.

If you, or your groomer identify suspects an ear infection, please consult your vet as soon as possible.

PAIN AWARENESS MONTH ‼️🐾

Ever dealt with a dog who yelped when you’ve barely even touched them? A dog who is really sensitive to any form of pressure on the skin whether light or strong?

They may be suffering from neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain is an abnormal pain response usually caused by damage to the nerves, spinal cord or parts of the brain that receive, conduct and interpret painful stimuli.

The three pain types of neuropathic pain are:

🐾 Hyperalgeisa - intense response to small pain such as a pin prick
🐾 Allodynia - pain from something that shouldn’t traditionally cause pain such as touch
🐾 Hyperpathia - extra sensitivity to touch and sensations

As groomers, we are very hands on with the dogs in our care and require them to tolerate a substantial amount of handling. This puts us in a prime position to identify potential symptoms of neuropathic pain such as:

‼️A change in behaviour
‼️Low tolerance to handling or physical activity
‼️Constant licking of an area
‼️Change in urinary or bowel habits
‼️Change in posture
‼️Difficulty walking
‼️Reluctance to stand up
‼️Difficulty jumping up or managing steps

If you have tried multiple attempts at desensitising or counter-conditioning a dog to grooming equipment, it may be worth referring them to a vet for a neuropathic pain assessment.

It’s that time again when I as a qualified dog groomer of almost 8 years cannot manage my poodle with a long coat, the maintenance involved is high and I have my son and work going on, as she’s down the riverbank/waterpark/woods most days and the weather apart from this week ☀️ is getting wet and dirty the shorter easy to maintain style is back, kind of a Miami trim but a longer muzzle kept just because I love it.
You say ‘oh it’s getting colder now he/she needs to be longer and that’s not the case, a wet longer coat stays damp longer and also gets matted quicker, and think about it your dog is in the house apart from on walks so they’re not getting cold. So if you own a mud dog like me do consider ‘short for winter’ it is so much more easier and more comfortable for your dog. If you’re more ‘long and fluffy’ I can always squeeze in intermittent baths’ for you but the work stands with you as an owner to brush and comb daily
I cannot brush out 6-8 weeks of matting in 2 hours, it’s painful and cruel I don’t do it.

Sweet Poochon Pep had her regular groom and puppy Cavapoochon Gracie had her first big girls groom today, Gracie is extremely wriggly, always busy.

‼️ Is is also the time to mention PRICE INCREASES
As you know i had 1 increase last year and this has been the only one since I qualified almost 8 years ago, through all my health issues I’ve built a very stable and reputable little business all on my own and I’m so proud of that and also to all you loyal clients some of you have been with me from the very beginning.
I have always done my best to stay a low as I can but as things have changed within the grooming industry and discovering how much cheaper I am to other groomers in the Manchester area (some are as much as £20 more than me) inflation has risen and cost of everything have gone up I too have bills to pay and a family to feed so some of you who didn’t see a price increase last year there will be an extra £3 to £5 added onto your dogs groom price from
1st November this year.
