I know I never posted about her going to a long-term foster family, but it's been working out really well and she's made a lot more progress being the only cat in the household. They gave her a bath, have been able to pick her up (with protest), and even got her to wear a sweater! (At the vet's recommendation to keep her from pulling out her fur while it grows back in since it's so itchy)

Miracle still needs a forever home though, so if you have some extra love to give this Valentine's Day, please consider adding her to your family. ❤️

Do these guys look familiar? The owner was found!

Or rather, she found us. She's on her way to pick up her lost sphinx cats now!

To answer some frequently asked questions:
- We thought they were abandoned because there were two of them and one of them turned out to be quite sick. We checked Karrot and there were no posts at all (she didn't post for more than two days after they were lost).
- The vet did not check for a microchip and the foster didn't ask, which is why I specifically mentioned in my deleted post that they needed a new foster who was willing to bring them back to the vet to check, and was one of the reasons that .collar.rescue and I decided to look for fosters first and adopters later. We didn't feel due diligence had been done.

But yay! This is good news.

Toast Update!
토스트가 건강 해졌어요. 중성화 되고 금요일에 평생 가족을 만날 거예요.

Toast has spent the last several weeks in the hospital. It turned out that he had not one but FOUR different respiratory issues (a combination of viral, bacterial, and fungal), and none of these were helped by the fact that he is a snub-nosed breed and already has a narrow airway. The clinic staff absolutely adore Toast and graciously boarded him for free. 🙏

He is huge now! British shorthairs tend to be large cats. The benefit of keeping him so long is that we were able to get him neutered before sending him for adoption. He is getting his stitches out on Friday and then going to his new home.

In the meantime, I'm soaking up all of his cartoonish cuteness and I can't believe that this is a real creature.

Adopt Patty (Pattypan)!

Patty originally came from Daegu, where she was rescued with their mother Hobak and siblings Squash and Butternut. The whole family was very wary of people but had to be taken in for their health and safety. Mom Hobak is blind and the three kittens also had herpes eyes, bad GI infections, and ringworm. The only thing still remaining is the ringworm, and it already looks better than before. I'm leaving on vacation soon, so I need to find a home for her regardless. She had already had two vaccines.

Patty has finally started showing off her super unique purr! She is still wary of people but we definitely had a breakthrough yesterday. The adoptive family will need to be patient with her though.

Patty is in Gwangju (Jeolla-do), but I can bring her to another city (preferably along the train line) if reimbursed for transportation expenses. Interested adopters will be required to fill out a short questionnaire to make sure they have fully considered the commitment of raising a cat, as well as pay a 60,000 won adoption fee that will go toward necessary expenses for her and other kittens. Butternut was adopted!
버터넛을 입양 보냈어요

Butternut was adopted by an American teacher living in Busan two weeks ago (I am wayyy behind in posts). She rented a car and drove all the way to Gwangju to pick him up! His name is now Tigger O'Malley (a combination of Winnie the Pooh and Aristocats characters), which is adorable. He's still a bit wary of her, but they're making progress!

His sister Pattypan is still available for adoption and has a very similar personality. I'll make a separate adoption post for her soon, but if you're interested in a fiesty little gal with the most unique purr, please reach out!

Adopt Tacy!
Female, 5.5 months, gray tabby, one eye, available now!

Tacy has the most adorable squeaky meow and likes to call me over to give her pets. She has the most stunning coat and a short tail that is bent like an “L”. Tacy really likes other cats and is really playful but also loves a good cuddle. She had an adopter lined up for over a month, but he had some unexpected medical issues arise and has since been unresponsive so I'm looking for another family for her.

Tacy and her sister Betsy were rescued by a woman in Sangju, who found them with their eyes already destroyed by FVR when they were almost two months old. She brought them to my friend Gabrielle, who fostered them for 6-7 weeks and worked on their socialization a lot. They came to me mainly to get eye removal surgery because a lot of vets here won’t do it on kittens but mine will. Their surgery was about 6 weeks ago and they both look amazing. They do not require any special care or consideration as one-eyed cats. They have already received all of their kitten vaccinations.

Adoption Success! - Squash & Betsy
오늘 스쿼시와 벳시를 입양 보냈어요

After more than 2 months with and 1.5 months with Gabrielle , Betsy is finally in her new home with wonderful human parents and a very sweet and little human sister. Their toddler was so gentle petting Betsy today and mom was just glowing while holding her so I'm sure it will be the perfect fit. After numerous FVR flare ups, pneumonia, and losing an eye, no kitten could deserve it more. 😊

Squash was also adopted by an American military couple today who could not wait to meet him! He actually still needs another week of ringworm treatment, but they were completely unfazed and said that they would be happy to continue his treatment on their own. He's also settling in nicely as well; he actually seems more relaxed there than he ever was at my house!

Today was the first day of serious snowfall in most parts of South Korea which means transportation was a bit of a mess, but we finally made it and it was completely worth it to see two more happy kittens with their two ecstatic forever families.

As of right now, Pattypan, Toast, and Miracle still need homes!

Butternut has Opinions. I don't know what they are, but he definitely has them. What do you think he's trying to say? And why is it always the orange kittens in my life?

Butternut, Pattypan, and Squash are all still quite wary of people in general. Butternut is mildly interested and purred once when I touched him. Squash is getting adopted Saturday, so we will see how that goes. Pattypan would still like me to drop dead.

If you're new to their story, they're in a pen because they're being quarantined and treated for ringworm, which is contagious to me and the other cats.

URGENT: Miracle Needs a Home!
My own cat is sick from stress and I'm going away in January 😭

The biggest reason that I only take in kittens is because of my cat Coco. While he tolerates kittens, he does NOT like adult cats and gets extremely stressed by seeing or hearing adult cats.

He reacts by attacking my other cat Mac multiple times a day through misdirected aggression and he gets physically ill, with diarrhea, some vomiting, and goopy eyes.

He consistently reacts this way even when seeing other adult cats outside the house, so needless to say that this has been a huge problem every time I have had another adult cat in the house. And Miracle hasn't just been here for a night or two for TNR. She has had exclusive access to my bedroom (half of his entire territory) for months in total. It's really bad right now and is causing me, Mac, Miracle and Coco all so much stress.

Miracle feels the same way about Coco (and all cats and kittens right now). She pulls out her fur when she is stressed (over grooming is a common cat stress response) and I keep finding clumps of fur on my bed. She has to stay in my bedroom all day which is not fair to her because she only sees me for only a couple minutes when I'm not sleeping. She wants and deserves so much more attention that that- not necessarily someone who works from home, just someone who can spend more than 20 waking minutes in the same room as her. 😭

I took in Miracle because I found her and because no one else would and because she would die a slow, painful death if left outside in her previous condition. I was even prepared to have her euthanized if that ended up being the kindest course of action. I'm so grateful it didn't come to that, but it has been months of treatment hard work to get her ready to go. In the time since I picked her up at the end of March, I have found homes for *51* kittens. Yes, 51.

Miracle is still here.

Also, as another important point, I'm going on vacation in January and am not sure where I'll be living when I come back.

Please help. I can't deal with the level of feline stress in my house right now.

Health history: most teeth were removed because she has severe stomatitis when she was found. She can still eats normal cat food though. She overgrooms when stressed, which is why she has the strange-lookimg coat below her shoulders.
😇 Personality: Demands food and attention in a way cat lovers appreciate. LOVES cuddles. Vocal but not loud. Jumpy, so not the best fit for someone with young kids who can't read her body language. Stressed by other pets. Ideal butler would sit on the sofa petting her for a couple hours a night and watching Netflix together.

Dorothy and Toto have been waiting to go home for ages, but finally got to go today! It wasn't a moment too soon either because they tore a giant hole in their pen last night so I can't use it anymore. 😆

Their adopter JD has been waiting so patiently, first for Toto to get well enough for surgery, then for him to recover from surgery, and then for the two of them to finally shake their ridiculously persistent FRV flare-up. Dorothy was a little shy but Toto was immediately exploring. And then he got all cuddly right before I left. 🥰

Adoption Success: Shiho & Kyul
시호, 귤 입양보냈어요 ^^

Last Saturday, Amber messaged me to say she was on her way to Gwangju from Daegu to drop off Butternut and Pattypan. Ten minutes later, I got another message from an American woman in Daegu who was looking to adopt Shiho. I usually prefer to have a waiting period before the kitten can be adopted to make sure that the adopter is serious, but she filled out the adoption application immediately and we video chatted for 45 minutes and it was just the perfect fit. So when she asked when she could adopt Shiho, I said, "Would five hours from now work?" She and her roommate already had most cat stuff from their current cats and immediately headed out to buy some new things, and Amber and her husband very kindly drive Shiho back to Daegu with them that same night. He immediately felt comfortable (as we knew he would) and is settling in with his new cat brothers, who look identical to him.

Kyul also got adopted on Sunday by an American woman in Pyeongtaek. Her new name is Aiko and she is her new mom's first cat, but her adopter asked so many questions and is determined to raise her well. She's already much friendlier with her new mom than she ever was with me! Look at her laying on her lap!

Miracle still needs a family!

😇 No babies or heat cycles! Born without a uterus, which we found out when she went in for spay surgery (vet named her because of this)
😇 There couldn't be a more deserving cat. Miracle has undergone 3 surgeries in the past year due to stomatitis, a terrible oral inflammatory condition that left her snarling at food, very underweight, drooling blood, and covered in dirt with matted fur falling out. She's at a normal weight, her fur is growing back in, and she no longer drools at all, which is a sign that the final surgery worked and that she is no longer in pain. She is sooo ready to meet her forever family now.

Update from the weekend: Miracle tried catnip for the first time and was a very silly kitty. I've tried washing the stains out of her white fur, but it hasn't worked so far :( but I can assure you this just stains. She still isn't drooling at all and she eats so much! She also finally started vaccinations last week! Miracle has been moved a lot and is totally ready to find her forever home.

One-Eyed Kitten Update!
외눈박이 냥이

Betsy, Tacy, and Toto all had their stitches removed on either Friday or Saturday. All three kittens' incisions are healing well and there are no anticipated issues thankfully.

Unfortunately, Betsy has caught ringworm out of nowhere (she's been here in a ringworm-free house and in another one for months!) so she is back in quarantine. I'm still seeking an adopter because it should be gone in no time.

Tacy is ready for adoption now. She really loves other cats, and it doesn't matter whether it is her sister Betsy or Kyul (her best friend this week) or Mac or Shiho or Dorothy. I think she would also be ok as an only pet and although I originally said otherwise, I think she would also be ok with kids. Getting her eye removed has been a really positive change for her. You can see from these pictures how relaxed she is now!

Toto and Dorothy have had an adopter lined up for nearly a month now, who has been consistently asking about how they're doing. Unfortunately, both kittens STILL have an ongoing cold, which is quite frustrating. But it's fantastic to know that they will have somewhere to go as soon as they are ready.

Meet Pattypan (Patty) and Butternut! (K80 & 81)
패티팬과 버터넛 소개 (2023년 마지막 임보 애기- 호박의 아기들)
(my last rescues of 2023)

These two kittens are Squash's siblings (thus the squash-variety names). Amber and her husband finally caught blind mom Hobak and the remaining two kittens in a drop trap late last weekend. Hobak will stay with Amber for now and will eventually get eye removal surgery and be spayed.

For the second time in two weeks, they drove all the way from Gwangju to Daegu, this time to drop off Pattypan and Butternut. Unfortunately the second I picked Patty up... (sorry don't know how to phrase this more delicately) *stuff* squirted out her back end. Combined with vomiting and general disinterest in food, this led us to go to the hospital today for two panleukopenia tests and a f***l exam. While thankfully neither kitten has FPV, both do have "long germs" that were visible on the microscope (evidently some bacterial infection but this is a literal translation of what the vet told me so I'm not 100% sure what that means), so they're receiving medicine for that. These kittens also need ringworm medicine, plus the standard 1st vaccine and dewormer, which I'll get at my usual vet tomorrow. I'm anticipating the total bill to be 250,000-300,000 won for both kittens together and was not expecting this one either 😭. But such is life I guess. Weirdly enough, Squash is almost half the size of these two I'll siblings, so he is definitely the runt.

Squash already has an adopter lined up, and these kittens are not yet available for adoption because they need a lot of medicine and a LOT of socialization. However, they will be ready in a couple weeks and inquiries (and donations) are always welcome!

Oh, and Pattypan is the one with the white on her nose and paws (female) and Butternut (male) is all orange.

Shiho has a thing for ears 😂

He specifically seeks out that part of the other cats' ears, too. But he's also a wool-sucker. I woke up a week or so ago with the shoulder of my shirt completely wet from him sucking on it all night. 😆 This is a common side effect of early weaning but is not a problem in and of itself.

Betsy loves exploring and climbing and always baffles me with how she can reach certain surfaces in my house. I’ve come home to her stubby little tail sticking out of the sink on more than one occasion. Tacy has the most adorable squeaky meow and like to call me over to give her pets. She has the most stunning coat and a short tail that is bent like an “L”.

Both girls like other cats, but the ideal home for th. probably wouldn’t have a dog or young kids right now. They let me pet them, but it has been a long road to get here because they have been in pain for a lot of their short lives. While it would be great for Betsy and Tacy to get adopted together, that isn’t necessary and shouldn’t stop you from applying.

Update: we've reached the goal in less than 24 hours! I'm so overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. Thank you so, so much!

I knew that the three kittens would each need to have an eye removed when I took them on, and I expected to have to pay at least 200,000 per kitten since that's what the same surgery had cost me last time. I had just about 500,000 of the required 600,000 in my fostering spreadsheet at the point when I decided to take them on.

However, numberous kitten emergencies have popped up, including Betsy needing to he hospitalized for four days with pneumonia and both Dorothy and Toto needing to be hospitalized for a few days because they had a cold and had stopped eating. And then Miracle came back unexpectedly and she really needed her surgery (complete molar and premolar removal) too. I really was not expecting to have to pay anything for Miracle's surgery, and definitely not so suddenly or I probably wouldn't have taken in the one-eyed kittens.

Even after getting a 2 million won discount from the vet and after Dongsan Shelter paying for half of Miracle's surgery and hospital bill (🙏), I still was left with:

Miracle (tooth extraction): 614,500 won
Betsy (enucleation): 200,000 won
Tacy (enucleation): 200,000 won
Toto (enucleation): 200,000 won

Total: 1,214,500 won (929.50 USD)

After applying the balance I still have in designated fostering funds as well as a promised donation from Betsy and Tacy's original foster, I'm down to needing 670,000 won still. Some of that can come from adoption fees when the kittens are adopted (as long as there are no more emergencies), but that still leaves me with 430,000 won (329 USD) to fundraise for at the moment. Miracle is Back & Had Surgery
(Wayyyy Overdue Update)- 마리클이 수술 받고 돌아왔어요

Miracle came back in a rush a couple weeks ago. She was doing so well at the shelter and had gained a ton of weight, but then she caught a cold, refused to eat, and started declining rapidly and getting dirty and smelly again.

Miracle has been a really, really difficult case for me because there is no clear solution to stomatitis. Surgery can be amazing, but it doesn't always work, it is invasive, and it is very expensive. Miracle already went through two poorly-executed surgeries that left the roots of her teeth in her gums. Two other vets agreed that the surgery was not done well, but disagreed about the best course of action from there. The shelter, which has far more experience than me, preferred to go with the less aggressive daily medication first. It seemed to be working for a while, but with this most recent development, we decided to bring her back to my usual hospital for treatment and that vet stuck to his initial advice: Miracle could not get better until the roots were removed.

After staying there for a week, she underwent another surgery. The remaining roots and all of her molars and premolars were removed and she stayed another week for observation.

Miracle looks so much better now. She's eating (not a ton)... BUT SHE ISN'T DROOLING! For anyone who knows what she was like before, this is SUCH a huge improvement. It's a good sign that she isn't in pain and it makes her so, so much more adoptable.

When she came home from the hospital, she was like a different cat. She came out of the carrier immediately, was exploring my room, and has since chosen to sleep next to me every time she has had the chance. (Well, almost every time. Everything is still on her terms; some things never change. 😆)

Shiho has a thing for ears 😂 He specifically seeks out that part of the other cats' ears, too. But he's also a wool-sucker. I woke up a week or so ago with the shoulder of my shirt completely wet from him sucking on it all night. 😆 This is a common side effect of early weaning but is not a problem in and of itself.

This... is not the easiest part of kitten rescue. 5 SCREAMING kittens are driving me absolutely insane. The Citrus Crew used to be fine with their pen. Then I let them out for a few days and they absolutely loved it. But then I discovered their parasites were not completely gone so we went back to the vet for meds and they had to go back in the pen so as not to spread it to other kittens. Needless to say, the oranges are extremely unhappy about this turn of events and are making their opinions known, loudly and constantly. On the plus side, their poop is definitely looking healthier and three of them will be going home in a couple of days! And they are only doing this because they're unhappy about being penned again. On the downside, there is another brand new foster kitten whose lungs can easily rival theirs who will not be leaving for several weeks... Does anyone have a good earplug brand recommendation? #adoptdontshop

Bunny kicks! / 토토의 됫발팡팡 Dorothy and Toto are doing great. They went in for a check-up and will stop taking oral medication for the FHV infection but will keep receiving eye drops since their vision continues to improve with them! Toto especially is such a little oddball. He will always look a bit scrappy with his funky eyes and thinner coat of fur (nothing wrong there, just not the fluffiest kitten I've ever had). But his default stance is scaredy-cat mode with an arched back and puffed up tail (even for no apparent reason) and he is either passed out in a really strange spot or running in actual circles. Nabi & Gomi were adopted today! 나비외 꼬미 입양 완료! In the happiest possible turn of events, the person who brought Nabi from Gwangmyeong to Gwangju contact me yesterday and requested to adopt Nabi! Maite lost her beloved 20 year old cat last June and Nabi reminds her of that cat so much that she just fell in love. She and her fiance will be continuing with the rest of Nabi's treatment up in Incheon. Gomi is on her way to the opposite corner of the country. English teacher Keleigh came over from Busan this morning to meet the kittens and figure out which she connected with the most. It was really important to her that she was able to spend the Chuseok break connecting with her new buddy. We had already spoken and I knew she would make a great cat mom, so when she decided on Gomi, she was able to take her home right away! It's been nice to finally see some kittens going home after what has seemed like a very long adoption dry spell. Kanga and Hope (Kitten #38) have a home...together! 캉가와 호프가 같이 살 거예요! Kanga has recovered from Saturday's spay surgery very quickly.
