Dal and Byeol were born to a very feral mom who was caught too late for TNR. They are inside with her now and mom is being released soon, but the babies can stay with humans.

The woman who is in charge of TNR for my district in Gwangju asked for help finding homes for these very special cats! As you probably know by now if you follow me, TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Release and is a great, humane way to manage stray cat populations. However, in some cases, the cats should not be put back on the street, as with these
ones.

The adoption fee is 50,000 won per kitten and will be used to buy food for the cats at Gwangju City Shelter, a public shelter which could really use the support. The cats are all in Gwangju, but I can try to arrange to bring them to you if you can reimburse me for transportation, so please reach out regardless of where you live! I am running out of time here in Gwangju, so if you want me to bring them to you, your best shot is meeting me in Seoul TOMORROW 5/11. Otherwise I will see what I can do.

ADOPTER WANTED for Hopang! (호빵)
호빵이 평생 가족을 구해요
(~1년, 수컷, 중성화 ✔️, 순해요)

I was so pleasantly surprised that people were really interested in Muze (who has been adopted!) so I would also like to find a home for Hopang in the next week or two since he has a very similar personality.

Hopang (Hobbang/호빵) is about a year old and was also very likely dumped given how incredibly friendly he is. He was found by a cat mom who has brought me several kittens in the past with a big bite on his butt! She's been taking care of him for more than three weeks and it has since healed. Hopang has also been neutered, has his first vaccine, and allows people to trim his nails and feed him medicine well.

Hopang is in Gwangju, but I can bring him to:
🍞 May 3 or 4: Busan/Pohang/Daegu (maybe even Ochong/Cheonan/Asan/Pyeongtaek)
🍞 May 11: Seoul
(but these are the only possible dates for me!)

You would just have to help by paying the transportation cost to your city. And of course you'd be welcome to come pick him up in Gwangju on another day. There will be a 50,000 won adoption fee which can be donated to a rescue organization of your choice out of four options (I'm not currently fostering so I don't want to collect the money myself).

Babysitting Kittens! 1박 2일 임보
For the time being, I'm no longer taking on my own foster kittens because of some major changes coming up in my life, but I still want to be involved as much as possible because it brings me so much joy.

So when contacted me about these 5 kittens who were found abandoned in a cardboard box, I connected her with Bunny who agreed to take them on if I could bring them up to her in Pyeongtaek. She's already fostering Husker (formerly April before we realized he was a boy), who is around the same age and who I brought up to her last week, so Husker will be able to socialize once they've completed their quarantine period.

Boy do I wish I could foster these five cuties! They're just over three weeks old, which is the peak age for kitten cuteness in my opinion and when they actually start to look like cats. They eat super well with big, dramatic ear wiggles, they're alert and mostly healthy-looking (just a normal level of eye crusties), and they have stunning, unique fur patterns. Here are my observations so far:

😺 K1: male tabby with a white nose and bent tail, clumsy, keeps rolling over to expose his pudgy little belly

😺 K2: female tabby (the only female!), no white nose but white-stockinged feet and a straight tail. Nicknamed "Hissy Missy" because our first interaction was her making scawy silent hisses at me. Then I fed her and we were all good 😆.

😺 K3: male white with gray spots. I haven't fostered a kitten who looks like him before. Has a super high-pitched meow.

😺 K4: male, brown with a marbled/swirl-like pattern. Happy to be on the bottom of the kitty pile.

😺 K5: male, black, but with a slight striped pattern visible through his fur. Mouthy, walks right over the other kittens, and makes repeated attempts to scale the high-walled cardboard box that is currently his home.

Bunny is going to be handling their adoptions as well, but if you're interested, in adopting one in about 5 weeks from now, contact me and I'll put you in touch! She's located in Pyeongtaek, which is accessible by subway from Seoul and has both SRT and KTX stations.

Watch April's Eyes Open! 👀
All of these pictures were taken over the course of four days.

Kittens are born with their eyes closed. They typically open at between 8-12 days old, and it's one of the factors you can use to help determine a kitten's age. It takes a few days for their eyes to fully open and for their pupils to shrink and I affectionately call this the "alien phase" because I think they look like the 👽 emoji.

Even after their eyes open, it's another week or so until they can even start recognizing shapes and their eyes will start following movement around the room. I feel like Bbikbbiki actually saw me for the first time yesterday! I don't actually know, but I feel like she noticed a fuzzy shadow or something because she was absolutely fixated on my hand before I started petting her.

Anyway, all kittens have blue eyes that change color around week six. The blue is from a lack of pigment in the iris at the time of birth.

TNR #12: "Street cats occupy a unique space in the community. Some people view them as pests; others view them as poor abandoned animals. Unfortunately, there just aren’t enough homes for all of the cats in Korea and, quite frankly, a lot of street cats are feral and have no interest in interacting with humans. In response, all municipalities in Korea, including Gwangju, run TNR programs, where citizens and program organizers can trap street cats, spay or neuter them for free, and then release them back into the community where they will continue to be cared for by local “cat moms.” In Gwangju, the program is run by an organization called the Gwangju Cat Mom Welfare Association. They operate a Naver Cafe where you can apply to borrow traps and make an appointment for the person in charge of your district (gu) to pick up the cats you caught and bring them to a participating vet for surgery. Since one female cat can produce more than 100 kittens in her lifetime (and males can father a nearly infinite number), spaying and neutering ensures that the street cat population doesn’t increase, which would result in a worse quality of life for the cats due to competition for territory and the spread of disease. It also lessens the behaviors that humans find bothersome, such as yowling to find a mate, spraying, and fighting. So whether you love street cats or hate street cats, TNR is a win for everyone."

Introducing April! (Kitten #82, but the 1st kitten of 2024) - 안녕 에이프릴 (사월)!

April was pick up from the middle of the road by some kind office workers on the other side of Gwangju. They took care of her at the office and overnight, but they needed support because it wasn't sustainable. They dropped her off yesterday in a nice, cozy container with a note.

April is already pretty feisty and has climbed out of her container and and crawled across the room, despite her eyes not being open yet! I would estimate that she's about 10-11 days old. She's only 152g, but she seems healthy and usually eats well (although I do have to feed her every 3 hours). And just look at her adorable little moustache!

수요일에 친절한 직원들이 이 ~10일 전에 태어나는 여아 애기 찾고 네이버카페에서 게시했고요. 눈이 아직 안 열어는데 이미 자신의 성격 있어요. 계속 탈출하려고 하기 때문에 더 높은 상자로 옮겨야 해요. 잘 먹어요. 그리고 너무 귀여운 수염 있어요 ^^

ADOPTER WANTED for Kitten Ddoongsoon & Tiny Boy BongBong!
뚱순, 봉봉 입양하세요!

I've seen several posts with people asking where they can adopt kittens and have mostly been advising people to wait a few months until kitten season is in full swing. However, there are still kittens out there right now that need homes!

Ddoongsoon (뚱순) is a 5-month old female kitten who was abandoned. She's very friendly and playful. Isn't her calico pattern gorgeous?!

BongBong is actually a young adult (maybe 1.5 years old）, but you'd never know it because he's tiny at just 4kg! If you're looking for an eternal kitten, look no further. BongBong has more of a "typical cat" personality than 뚱순, in that he enjoys being around humans but is a bit more independent.

Both cats are available for adoption through , a private shelter in Damyang right outside of Gwangju that prides itself in taking great care of their animals. I've fostered for them a few times before.

Interested in adopting? DM me for an adoption questionnaire and to line up a video call with an English or Korean-speaking shelter volunteer. Adopters are required to pay for the spay (250,000 won) or neuter (200,000 won) of either animal as the adoption fee. It would be great if you could could come pick them up yourself, but I can also bring them anywhere in Korea if you can reimburse me for the transportation cost. Let's find these babies a home!

Adopter Wanted for Muze!
뮤즈가 평생 가족을 잦습니다
(~3년, 수컷, 중성화 O, 너무 순해요, 사람들 다 정말 좋아해요)

Two weeks ago I got a call from my friend Jean saying, "Abby, are you home? I'm in the park near your house and need a trap!" I was, so I ran out and met her and the wonderful, super friendly orange and white cat who she decided to call Muze. He had two giant puncture wounds on his neck (almost certainly from a large dog bite) and goopy eyes, but he was happy to let me hand-feed him to get him into the trap. Jean took him to the vet and got him neutered and is now fostering him at her school, where he is eating up all the attention he can get! We're certain he was a dumped pet because I think he's the best cat I've ever seen with kids.

Muze is about 3 years old and is ready to find a forever family. He has been neutered and received one vaccine. He is pretty quiet but LOVES all humans, so the more people who want to give him attention in your family, the better!

We are in Gwangju, but I'm willing to bring him anywhere in Korea if you reimburse me for transportation. His adoption fee will be a 40,000 won and Jean would like to see picture updates every 3 months or so either on Instagram or sent to her privately to make sure he is still doing well.

Happy Valentine's Day!
If you're looking for some last-minute e-cards for a cat lover, why not use these ones of Miracle, made by her super talented foster mom Udval Dv ?

I know I never posted about her going to a long-term foster family, but it's been working out really well and she's made a lot more progress being the only cat in the household. They gave her a bath, have been able to pick her up (with protest), and even got her to wear a sweater! (At the vet's recommendation to keep her from pulling out her fur while it grows back in since it's so itchy)

Miracle still needs a forever home though, so if you have some extra love to give this Valentine's Day, please consider adding her to your family. ❤️

Do these guys look familiar? The owner was found!

Or rather, she found us. She's on her way to pick up her lost sphinx cats now!

To answer some frequently asked questions:
- We thought they were abandoned because there were two of them and one of them turned out to be quite sick. We checked Karrot and there were no posts at all (she didn't post for more than two days after they were lost).
- The vet did not check for a microchip and the foster didn't ask, which is why I specifically mentioned in my deleted post that they needed a new foster who was willing to bring them back to the vet to check, and was one of the reasons that .collar.rescue and I decided to look for fosters first and adopters later. We didn't feel due diligence had been done.

But yay! This is good news.
